Psychology of the privileged? Yep!
Pepper Pace didn’t just write a sci‑fi about aliens she dropped us into a world where privilege struts around blind to everyone else’s reality. The Exchange ceremony? A glittering stage for the wealthy and white, while the poor and marginalized are locked out, erased, or reduced to stereotypes.
What makes this book sing is how seamlessly Pace threads racism, classism, and prejudice into the fabric of her futuristic world. It’s not just about humans vs. aliens it’s about who gets to belong, who gets erased, and how privilege speculates about lives it refuses to understand.
The writing is sharp, the undertones are rich, and the social commentary hits hard without ever slowing the story down. It’s artful, engaging, and thoughtful and yes, I’m already on to book 2

Even better than I remember
The world appears as it quickly moving towards this dystopian future, but unlike Karma and the others, there's no one coming to save us.
Karma has had a hard life and is willing and prepared to do whatever she needs to in order to survive. I probably should say more about the actual book but I don't feel like I can do it properly with spoiling it for someone.
I originally read this as a Vella installment. It was good before but seems even better now. I know what happens but this second read is giving clarity. The author says there are no changes, only edits/corrections, but there are some things that I don't remember. I probably wasn't as thorough on my initial pass. Or the passage of time could be the issue. Usually on a reread I scan over some of the less interesting parts. I have done no scanning thus far. I am very much enjoying it all over again.

Aliens and consorts
Karma was living in survival mode. Her chance to get out of the poverty she lived by being forced to take the place of a consort was a no-brainer. If she refused, she would be dead, so she leaped at the chance. It was an eye-opening event for Karma. Her mated Galatian consort Rafe Sigur also learned some things from her. They both learned from each other. Rafe learned that the Galatain Consort exchange was riffed with embezzlement and poor management. Karma was just thrown into the consortium and had to learn from the bottom. Her relationship with sister consort Madeline proved to be helpful. All in all, Karma never forgot where she came from and was determined to share her fortune with the poor. But there are many things that both Rafe and Karma have to learn about each other's culture.
NOTE I first read this story through Kindle Vella. I am glad the author is making it available in ebook form. The narrators for the audible book, Simone Rothschild and Steven Jay Cohen did an excellent job of making the story come to life. I'm looking forward to future books.

I enjoyed this story very much!
I liked how there was action, suspense, how these characters changed and learned to talk to each other.
How the relationship grew from ritual to real heartfelt feelings for each other. And as much as I didn't like the other consorts, I did like that they became curious and listened to Karma.
Even the theme of racism showed up in this sci-fi fantasy. That surprised me, but when Rafe kind of answered her about it, it actually made sense and sounded so much like today! Actually, the racism was throughout the story! Not just where it was directly brought up.
I look forward to the next books, I hope I can read them all!

Weakest book I've read by the author.
Perhaps because it's originally in serial form and the plot stretched even thinner? The editing is not good, there's lots of typos and errors which I can overlook.
But the author also repeatedly hit me over the head with her messages. The system is corrupt! The rich are greedy and evil! The poor are all innocent and abused! Galatian queens are selfish! Galatian warriors are protectors! It was all just so black and white.

Aliens and their human Consorts
I have been waiting for this story and it was worth the wait. Warrior aliens who are given human consorts after years of service protecting Earth and the complicated worlds they come from. Set far in the future, this world has been ravaged by a different alien race and then ravaged by greed. Engrossing reading! Highly recommend.

a refreshing new twist
I love a story that catches me unaware. The Galations is one of those books. The story engaged me from the beginning and I want to know where it’s going. Tge writing is great and engaging. Lots of hot smut and alien sex is an interesting addition. Off to read book 2. I hope it’s out.

This is a great series. I read it on Kindle Vella and just could not get enough of it. Every character played an integral part in the book. The story is told from a variety of POVs, each unique and on their own journey, but it all blended together seamlessly. I can't wait for more to be released.

Galatian !
First read by this author and I can’t be mad at it . Didn’t think I would be into an alien romance story but this is pretty good. I am intrigued and looking forward to what’s going to happen next because Karma and Rafe belong together and those queens need to be exposed along with all the other under handed business going on .

Totally enjoyed this book. Karma was given a true backstory so you really understand her. Rafe is a total good guy (alien) who truly is very honorable.

Interesting erotic sci fi adventure
The worldbuilding is dark. The Galatian warriors are likeable; the Galatian queens are not. Karma is a sympathetic character. Dorf is awesome. I didn't realize all three books aren't in KU, so I won't be continuing the series.

This is a great series. I read it on Kindle Vella and just could not get enough of it. It took a long time to read it all, mostly because it was a serial released weekly for years, but even after 340 episodes and two years of dedication I never got bored or wanted it to end. Every character played an integral part in the book. The story is told from a variety of POVs, each unique and on their own journey, but it all blended together seamlessly. I finished the final episode available on Kindle Vella today and I'm sad that it's over, for now, but I'm excited that the author says she plans to continue the series and I can't wait for more to be released.

While somewhat repetitive, I thought it was a good read. I think the repetitive parts are due to the original serial format. Karma is a strong character that despite her background, she survives. When forced into a world she doesn't understand, she adapts and survives. I liked Rafe and how he handles things...willing to admit his wrongs. I also like Dorf and hope to learn more about him and the many characters. Something dark is going on and Rafe and Karma are the couple to figure it out!!

This is definitely my favorite thing to do every Monday and Friday…This Kindle Vella Story is off the charts…Pepper Pace created a world that is utterly amazing and unmatched, the characters are so real that either you love them or hate them…I mean really hate them.
