"But what if she doesn't want to be found?" A cyborg and skilled tracker, Ryn Casler makes a living busting cheating spouses, both in and out of meatspace. Their latest client, Shae Winters, is a police detective searching for her sister. Ryn doesn't work well with cops, and Shae doesn't like her authority being challenged. But they must play nice if they have any hope of solving this case. **This is the first in a series, alternatively titled "Kitten Fever".

Hello! I'm Eggler, a black, queer, and autistic novelist.

I primarily write sapphic paranormal romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. Most of my stories include supernatural creatures, such as vampires and shapeshifters, as I find these creatures highly fascinating. My characters, or at least the protagonists are always neurodiverse in some form (ADHD, autism, bipolar, OCD, etc.), and are queer and black.

In short, they share aspects of me.

I haven’t previously read anything by this author. Early Adopter seems like a good place to start, being both short and a fast read (which are not the same thing…) In a rather cyberpunk setting, we follow Ryn on the trail of Shae’s missing sister.

The writing was tidy and easy to read. Despite the cyberspace, body modifications, implants and grafts, the tone stays away from the grim grittiness of much cyberpunk. I got a fairly good sense of the world. Sometimes, I wasn’t totally clear whether we were in cyberspace or meatspace. The ambiguity may have been intentional, and it didn’t detract from the experience.

The plot was pretty straightforward with more of a “police procedural” (follow the breadcrumbs) flavour than “detective mystery” (unravel the cooked spaghetti). Given that this is a first in series book, I view it as an introduction to Ryn, their life and their world with the investigation serving as a framework for this rather than being the “point” of the story. The author drops a few hints about Ryn’s background without the temptation to info-dump, and I’d guess these will be expanded upon in later books.

3.5 for me I think, but we're rounding up to 4. This is a little outside of my usual, but it was a short one and a quick read! I'd started it before then life, well, does what it does, so I restarted it and wasn't even bothered having to re-read what I'd gotten through before.
This was an interesting look into the future, and changes that could be made to humans, and how lives could change so quickly/easily with technology. I forget exactly how I came across Sienna's books, I think through another author, but I'm glad I took a chance on this one and look forward to reading the other one I got from them.

3.5 stars, rounded up - An interesting glimpse into a possible future. The worldbuilding was the most intriguing part for me, and I would potentially be interested in reading more in this world. I do like our main character, Ryn, and it seems like we're setting up a series where they will have private investigatory adventures with the help of their business partner, AI assistant, and police detective former client with benefits.
