ARC REVIEW BUT COMPLETELY HONOST

Leigh has a way to just capture you. Parker and Sefa are the best characters. You feel for them and want the world for them. Reading through the adventure, there was many times my mouth LITERALLY just dropped open.

The Mist guild was everything! I need a second book!

I really enjoyed this book!

It’s a sort of murder mystery that then turns into a romance, there’s intrigue, tension and some really unique story elements!

It was such an easy compelling read, I flew through the book and found it was well written, a fresh take on vampires and their lore.

The story was easy to follow but felt really fresh and kept me really gripped. The magic, location and reveals were all spot on and I could really imagine it all. Mele island and the characters there even though some weren’t the main focus, I found I connected with them and was interested in the world around the main storyline. I want more from this world!

Sefa and Parker’s story had enough tension and a slow burn to keep me invested and the foreshadowing for the rest of the series really opened up the world for future reading.

I would recommend this for a refreshing vampire romance that’s easy world building and look forward to more from this author!

I received an arc of this story and this was my honest review.

I loved this book and read it in 2 days! It has everything, vampires, witches, murder mystery, a tropical island sprinkled with spice and when that spice hit, it was so good! I was hooked from the start, it's fast paced and there's never a dull moment!

I loved the characters, especially Sefa with his touch her and die vibes and I loved the plot, there were plenty of twists and turns that had me gasping.

Leigh Ferguson did an amazing job of bringing this story to life and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series! If you like the vampire diaries you'll love this!

Thank you to Leigh Ferguson for giving me the opportunity to have an ARC of Mist Guild Archives and read the book before it is released 🖤

I ARC read this book and loved the experience!

First- the author was so amazing with updates and walking us through everything. Love her!

Now for my opinion- Mist Guild Archives(MGA) gives off adult twilight and vampire diaries vibes. Now I say this but MGA has those vibes but with its own amazing twist. The spicy scenes were spicy but not so spicy that you couldn’t read it in public😉😉. I had such a hard time putting this book down. It’s a pretty quick read so I read it in 2 days but when I did have to put it down to “Adult” it was all I was thinking about. Parker is a hell of a woman and deserves the world. Leigh Ferguson did an amazing of a job bringing this story to life. I can’t wait to read more! 😘😘

This story is so good! There are unexpected twists throughout. It did not stagnate. I loved the plot. The premise behind the supernatural was intriguing.

Lono and Kalina are love life goals! Kalina is strong and wise. She knows her mind and doesn't sway. She marches to the beat of her own drum shamelessly! Lono may be cold due to his blood thinners, but his personality is pure warmth. Together, there is a sense of fierce love and deep connection.

This book is a slow burn. Sefa starts off cold.

Joseph is in the same category as EX-Professor Umbridge. Just nasty. There is no redemption for him.

My only negative would be a bit too much damsel in distress for my taste. I am keeping an eye out for the continuation, though.

I really wanted to like this book, because I’m a sucker for vampires and witches.
But I really struggled with this book. As I got further in the story it got better.
But I really didnt like the FMC, her reaction to her husbands murder and other events didnt really sit well with me.
I did enjoy the lore of the island, I would have liked some more background information on that.

Stars: 3/5

This is a fast-paced, charming, mystery story where we follow Parker through all the twists and turns thrown at her.
She goes through many stages in a few weeks that others don't experience in years and she has to learn many things about herself and the people around her.

The story jumps from one scenario to the next. Which unfortunately makes the story feel slightly messy and incomplete for me. I like a little more debt to the characters and the story and here I felt several times that there were things missing and I have a problem connecting with the characters because I don't feel I get enough from them.

But it was a charming story and if you want a sweet, light, quick read then this is something for you. 🙂

ISpoiler review.

So here is me ranting. This is my personal opinion and doesn't reflect the author or her work.

My biggest problem with this novel was the lack of empathy with the characters. I mean the female lead's husband gets murdered and people are quite non caring about this. The police don't offer condolences. Aorha picks her up all cherry and no I am sorry for your loss. Kalina and Lono know she is sad but don't ask about it and want to hire her as their staff. Her sister is more worried about her v card and the hot security guard. It made it hard to like anyone. Yes, I know people react to death differently and most people didn't seem to like Joseph but still... I little sympathy for the widow would have been nice.

I also found some of the story points incomplete or not making sense. Sure some might be answered later in other books but the story feels a little shallow sometimes.

I mean. The cops seem completely incompetent. They are not offering any condolences to a grieving widow and start suspecting her for the crime. She isn't allowed a phone. (Which I am pretty sure is Illegal). The Female lead never asked for a lawyer. They don't check that they pretty much just landed on the island and just got into the new place before he died. Then accused her of killing him for money when she wasn't even the one benefitting from his death. They don't wonder how he managed to get so many stakes through customs. They don't ask about the breaking, but that might have happened off-script).
But they also don't seem to find it strange that two other people die in the same house they put their suspect in. (In a secure house no less). Maybe they just hid their death. At least the security guards because he is barely mentioned. Kalina's death they could put old age and hide the scars. (Possible.)
Also, I love Sefa but he also doesn’t seem very good at his security job. I mean a vampire broke into his house twice. Killed two people and nearly killed Parker and himself. He says he is going to protect her but never seems to have a plan and gets captured the same way over and over. I mean in the end, the heroin is Aroha. He knows about the other vampires and what they can do? But he doesn’t seem to know how to counterattack them or protect himself and the people he cares about.

Same with Joseph and the mist guild. They seem to be a bunch of Wana bese that pretend to be vampire hunters. They send him letters that aren’t written in code. (I understand not wanting to use electronic. They get infiltrated. (Not surprised.) Yet, they come to the house of the widow of one of their killed men. Yell for everyone to hear that vampires might be after them and assume they know what they are talking about. (They just got married. If the sister didn’t know why the wife would know?) Their information gathering seems to be pretty crappy. They didn’t know why Joseph went there. That his wife didn’t know anything. Didn’t seem to care that he just gave away everything to a civilian who also happens to be a reporter. But was concerned that Sefa might know something? Then they demanded that Parker give them a list that she doesn’t have and if the list was so important shouldn’t it be more copies and the higher up should know about it? They also seem to completely not care when she says they had a breaking maybe someone took it.
Maybe it is in the safe the key went to that was addressed to his sister. We don’t know yet. She is us to and I don’t believe she is a marine biologist. If she has just been a biologist maybe but the marine part kills her cover.

So there are several things that bother me with the storyline. But I really WANT to like the main couple and I want to see more of them and where the story is going and how they cope with their new life. I understand that the other books will be about the other sisters. We know mostly Eliza so far. I would like to see more of the supernatural community, and it would be fun if each sister ended up with a different supernatural species. I mean their blood seems to work for many things so it could be fun to see where it is going.

I read this ARC and the following review was based on my opinion:
If you are looking for a short, quick, story with drama, romance, comedy, or murder, to read one day this story may be for you. When I started reading it I was interested in how it began with a woman on her honeymoon and that's when all her tragedy begins, from then on the story started to move too fast I would find myself reading something and then it would quickly move to another scene too fast I found it a little hard to connect with the story and the characters I couldn't empathize with because some of them I didn't get to know well during the story. I found it like an adult version of Twilight, I would have liked it to focus more on giving more background to the story and the characters as there are some things that are hard to understand in the plot. My favorite character was Kalina, I found her to be a super adorable grandmother who liked to help others especially enjoying the day-to-day life with her husband her undying love how she treated Parker, and how she felt around Kalina and Lono. Doesn't take away from it being a sweet and light story to read quickly though.

Besides the fact that the story is fast and you don't connect with the characters because everything happens so fast, the lack of empathy towards Parker and what just happened with the death of her husband is something that took me out of the story, we start with that before offering her condolences for the death of her husband the first thing the police do is to brand her as a suspect, A woman who has just had her husband killed on their honeymoon, which is traumatic for anyone, how is it that no one offers her condolences for the death of her husband, as if a stranger who has no relation to her had died. When she is sent to the house of one of the residents of the island, none of them, Kalina, Lono, offers her condolences for the death of her husband but she is hired in less than two hours to be the caretaker of Lono and Kalina. Even her sister, when she manages to contact her, asks her if the security guard is good-looking, yet she is the most empathetic of all the characters. The cops on that island hold her against her will won't let her make a phone call, won't let her get a lawyer and I'm sure that's completely illegal, and keep asking her the same nonsense questions over and over again accusing her when really there is no way a woman as small as Parker would have killed a man the way Joseph did.

I find the story flawed in terms of vampires, for example, they never said why they can go out in the sun which is known to be the most common myth about vampires, why they eat human food is not explained either, unless later the mechanics of vampires are explained but in this first book I don't see much sense in them. Sefa I found him somewhat incompetent in that they enter his house twice a vampire kills two people including his mother and what happens then is nothing as if everything was normal, he fails to protect both his family and Parker. In addition to that at the end of the story how he alone can kill so many vampires without anything happening to him still does not make sense to me when previously he could not kill even one, the real heroine for me is Aroha who was the one who defeated Tiato using her magic and in addition to that she helped Parker a lot in his transition.

Joseph is a separate case since it is described in the book he only used Parker without her consent he wrapped her in a dangerous world in a careless way, and his organization comes out of nowhere to tell Parker everything since they assumed that she should know everything, how are they going to release such important information to a civilian, it is a careless organization for me they are just filler since they do not compose anything they are just a group of pretentious people who call themselves vampire hunters. And what happened with that someone broke into Parker's house and then no one talks about what they stayed there, it is not known what they took or what is missing was never given more importance, who knows what the famous list was and the organization knowing that they broke into Parker's house hope that everything is in order and do not steal anything. Also not much is known about Joseph's sister, she only appears twice, she inherits all his money but knows nothing of her brother's life, and is always out of her reach because of her work, they say she is a Marine Biologist but no one knows for sure. There are many blind spots in the story that are not clarified, maybe because in the other book, they will be clarified or not, I still have many doubts about the story.

Honestly, I would like to see what happens later in the other stories with the other sisters, knowing what they are and what they are capable of. I would like to know more about the main couple, especially the other sisters, some of them look very interesting, and knowing what the future holds for them fills me with intrigue.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this story, I'll wait for the others with eagerness to know and explore more of this world that is in the process of creation.

I read this as an ARC Review and rated it based on my opinion.

Firstly, I would like to express my genuine enjoyment of the story. It was a captivating whirlwind adventure centered around a young woman who experienced the highs of marriage, followed swiftly by the lows of widowhood, all within a matter of days. Stranded on an island as a suspect, her proximity to a man leaves her torn between the urge to confront or to embrace. If you seek a narrative that is unequivocally fast-paced, with a touch of steam to while away the hours, then Mist Guild Archives might be precisely what you're looking for.

Here are my reasons for rating it as I have: I found that the story lacked a cohesive plot. It seemed to progress too rapidly for me to fully grasp the setting or to form a meaningful connection with the characters or the narrative. I must caution that the following contains spoilers.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

I empathized with Parker when she gazed at herself in the mirror in her wedding gown, clearly showing signs of pre-wedding jitters. She proceeded with the marriage, yet the narrative didn't delve into why she remained a virgin. There was no mention of whether they were waiting until marriage; it was mentioned seemingly out of the blue. Shortly after, her husband meets a tragic end at the hands of an unknown assailant on the very first day. Understandably, she becomes the prime suspect, but the investigators' methods struck me as somewhat absurd. Their repetitive questions and accusations about her not knowing about the weapons in his suitcase seemed rather far-fetched. It's worth noting that even metal straws often raise alarms at airports these days.

Additionally, considering Parker's petite stature, it strains credulity to believe she could have stabbed her husband through the rib cage. The interrogations were challenging to read through. Furthermore, Parker not only grapples with this but also contends with secondary characters who oddly act as if harboring a murder suspect is perfectly normal, displaying an almost carefree demeanor. Shouldn't there be a period of mourning? Shouldn't they show some respect for her grief? The narrative introduces one improbable scenario after another in Mist Guild Archives. The guild sending letters to her husband in the mail raised questions for me. This is especially peculiar for a secretive organization. The sudden revelation of the deed to the house and Sefa's promises of protection, which consistently fell short, left me somewhat disillusioned. I didn't perceive Sefa as the archetypal heroic figure; in fact, the witch appeared to be the more formidable of the two.

I feel that the story progressed too swiftly, lacking in-depth character development and a well-defined plot. There were notable gaps that I wished had been addressed. While there are certainly elements that hold promise for an engaging read, I believe the narrative would have greatly benefited from the insights of a developmental editor to rectify the inconsistencies and pacing issues. Overall, it wasn't a disappointing read, but it's not one that I foresee revisiting. The writing was lucid and devoid of errors. I believe this is a story with potential that simply required some fine-tuning.

I was gifted an arc of this book for my honest review& I really appreciate the opportunity. I know it is hard to write a novel and I appreciate the Author's effort, time and love that I'm sure was poured into this book. Creating a new world is definitely a labor of love and just because it wasn't for me, doesn't mean it won't be for you.
.
If you like:

Vampires x Human
Enemies to Lovers
Murder Mystery
I'd rip your throat out for her
Falling for your body guard trope

Then Mist Guild Archives might be for you.
.
.
I'll try to keep it spoiler free but there may be vague spoilers
.
.
.
Let's start with the good stuff:

This book was an easy, fast paced read. Something was happening in every chapter and it kept you engaged and wondering what would unfold next. The chapters were short and it made me feel like I zoomed through this book. The main characters were likeable and the dialogue between them was done well. I liked the chapter titles and how they tied into the actual content. I really wish chapter titles would make more of a come back. I think they are so fun so I appreciate that the author included them.

The few spicy scenes were good, though I wish they were a little longer with the build up for the tension between the two main characters. I'm glad they were open door and steered clear of the odd euphemisms that are often used for the spicy bits. I also appreciate the mmcs request for clear and enthusiastic consent.

It reminded me a bit of twilight & some scenes screamed of inspiration from some iconic scenes.
.
The not so great(vague spoilers ahead) :
.
.
.
.
.

The lore in this book is a little all over the place. We see Vampires roaming around in daylight at the beginning of the book, as noted by Parker talking about festivals, breakfast, running.. Then towards the end of the book, daylight means safety. Security is sorely lacking in a place that should be locked down like Fort Knox if it was the specialty.

We are introduced to a multitude of species but it never amounts to anything. It's just idle talk. It's possible that this may be a set up for future books.

Absolutely no one seems to care about the fmc's recent loss and it constantly feels like they are like why are you sad.. Like it wouldn't be completely normal to be sad in her position & everyone in Parker's life continues to brush off this loss even when it's brand new. Even SHE brushes it off.

There's no real way to keep track of how long this book has taken besides the 3rd act break up where it mentions one month since x happened. Very rarely did I ever know where a scene was happening. I felt like there were no descriptions of any kind of scenery/color/tecture/smell so it felt really flat to me. (This may work if you like your books to allow you to fill in the details)

I spent a good portion of the book going absolutely no one would act like this in x situation. (especially the condom bit from the sister, iykyk).

Just a side question: Why don't Vampires use plastic cups?

I really wanted to like this book because the art was incredible and who doesn't love Vampires? But it really fell flat for me.

Vampires and murder, 2 of many topics I enjoy reading, lured me into reading this book. Also, I have arc read for the before and liked her writing. Unfortunately, this book didn't connect to me as much as I wanted it to be.

The beginning of the story was really interesting. It had me hooked but as I continue reading the pacing was off. It became so fast that it felt like there were some missing parts of the story. It was scene after scene without a proper transition between them. I did like the dynamics between Parker and Sefa but chemistry wise, I was not convinced.

I'm hoping the second installation would be better. Yes, I would still read the second one because this didn't completely disappointment at the same time I'm curious as to what will happen next. Also, I'm not sure but it is possible the next book will focus on another couple (Don't take my word for it! I'm just guessing here lol)

Thank you to the author for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review. Everything in this review has been written willing fully.

Since I read a proof copy of the book any grammatical errors did not impact the rating.

I am a terribly grateful to be able to have had the chance to ARC read this but as reviews are for readers I want to continue to be honest.

*Note that these are just my personal opinions and observations. Reading is entirely subjective and this in no way means that you shouldn't try this book because everybody's tastes are different.*

That being said, I started to enjoy the book at the beginning but unfortunately it is not for me. I in no way think that I am the intended audience.

My Thoughts?

Cannot express my excitement for how it immediately jumps into a murder & then you get to meet a lovely elderly couple.

Sefa seems like a complex character who doesn't trust easily but I can see understanding the main character the further the plot goes.

It's a book filled with...
▪️Complex characters
▪️Unique world building
▪️Looming & Monstrous beings
▪️A heavily built up romantic plot
▪️Cringed dialog & scenes

If you're a reader of paranormal romance or woman's lit you'll enjoy this book.

I personally rank this...
2.5⭐️

...after taking world-building, character complexity, unique elements, & writing style into account.

It had all of that. The reason it's ranking isn't much higer is because while the characters were complex & the writing style good, it personally wasn't my style of book.
I found it cringe in a bunch of areas too.
With a great start, towards the middle I got a Twilight- Hallmark Channel feeling that didn't go away. It was very open-door too, which despite being prepared a bit for wasn't expected. Also, cringe.

Think that this would be more of a read one of my sisters would enjoy especially during their teen years despite this being an obviously adult targeted novel.

Warning - contains some details of the book (no major spoilers though):

I was lucky enough to be invited to read this book as an ARC reader. My favourite genre is fantasy romance, so I was excited to read this one!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and read it over the course of a couple of days, which is always a good sign!

I loved the characters and their interactions. The plot was really interesting and I'm curious to know where things go with the melodies, the guild, and of course the lead characters!

I really liked the characters names names, and unusually for a fantasy book, I had no trouble remembering who was who! I also enjoyed the romance and the spice level. I thought the descriptions of Mele Island were very evocative.

I'm keen to hear more about Aroha's connection to the land, and also about the Melodies, the Talamaur, and Parker's sisters! I feel there is more world building and character development to come and I'm intrigued to learn more! I actually felt the book could have included more if this detail without detracting from the storyline and I am hoping this will be something book 2 brings!

It definitely took me on a journey with Parker and I was happy to be swept away with the story.

There were definite Twilight vibes and I think adult fans of that series will enjoy this. This is not a YA novel, but definitely falls into the adult market.

I want to start this off by this is an ARC Free review and it is being left voluntarily!

I am normally not a reader in which I ready this type of book but there was something about that caught my attention and I am glad it did. My books I read tend to carry a lot of 🌶️ but this read isn’t for you if you can’t handle little spice. I give the spicy level 🌶️🌶️.

I totally enjoy watching vampire movies and shows. This book really reminds me of a mixture of the Vampire Diaries and True Blood. Funny thing is Parker, who is a main character makes a reference in regards to a few movies, Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and TVD included.

I could not put this book down. I completed it in a day and a half. I am just on vacation and this was the time I could finally get all my reviews in.

I have never read this author before and I am hooked. This was a fast-past book and it kept you on the edge of your sit. It did leave me wanting more. In that case that was the only thing that I wish was different, the book was a little longer.

Little info on the book:

Parker is a newlywed, who found her husband and *unalived*. This becomes a mystery to her as she begins to learn the person she was married to hold a past. This is when Parker gets a glimpse and learns about worlds of vampires and witches/warlocks.

Thank you Leigh for the opportunity to read this before the book is released. I will be reading more of your books in the near future! ☺️

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is 😊 thanks Leigh!!

I always like a good vampire romance! I really liked Parker as a character, and I felt for her the whole time during all of her troubles!! It was weird how unsympathetic everyone was towards her after the murder.

This was very fast-paced--it almost felt unrealistic at times how quickly the romance was developing. I'm definitely a fan of a good slow-burn personally. But if you like a lot to happen in a short amount of time, this is the book for you! You definitely won't be bored. I was always trying to keep reading to see what would happen next! On that note, some of the transitions seemed very abrupt to me. Instead of a flow, there were a few spots where the plot just sped along to the next big thing.

One thing that took me out of the story was that it was very Twilight-esque at times? There were a few scenes that were very reminiscent of the movie to me. But sometimes that's hard to avoid with characters who are discovering vampires for the first time 🤷🏼‍♀️ But as a whole, I would recommend this one! I'm excited to learn more about the Mist Guild, and see where the author takes this series after the reveal at the end of the book. I'll be on the lookout for book 2!

I really enjoyed this mystery/vampire romance! When I first got the opportunity to ARC read, I was told it was a vampire romance, but the mystery in the plot of the book is what really hooked me from the start!
The book opens on Parker and Joseph's wedding day, and Parker is having some cold-feet jitters and our author wrote it in such a great way that instantly my alarm bells were going off! In my head I'm telling the character, "listen to you gut girl, don't do it!". Sure enough, major things happen minutes into her honeymoon, and Parker's life changes forever.
I liked Parker's character and was happy with her growth through the book. Sefa, the dark and broody security mogul who's stuck with safeguarding Parker, he's my favorite kind of alpha-hole, with a soft side for her. It takes him a while to get there though, to finally cross that line he's laid out for himself with Parker, but when he finally let's go.... whew the sparks fly and it's fantastic.
The underlying mystery throughout the story was super intriguing and it flowed well throughout.
This book did end with an HEA, but enough of an opening it will flow well into book 2!

This book was absolutely amazing!!! Have you been looking for a vampire romance that keeps you hooked through the whole adventure? If so this one is for you!! I was not able to put this book down! Every time you think you know what’s going to happen, you don’t. This author really knows how to write a good story.
Spice level: 2/5
I most definitely give this one a 10/10 stars!!

Favorite quotes: “I love to go on an adventure. It doesn’t have to be anything too big. I like climbing to the top of a mountain. I like experiencing something new. I like to meet new people and see how they live. I love…helping people, even if it is small, like a smile on a bad day.”

“You deserve so much better than what he had to offer. You deserve someone that wants to figure out all your secrets. Someone who bends over backward to give you the world, and who learns how to make your breath hitch, how to make your cheeks flush.”

Should we call Buffy?”

Fast-paced story that hooks you from start to finish. I enjoyed the fresh approach to the vampire and witch connection and development; it was not the typical story often seen. I really loved Parker and Sefa but would have liked to see that relationship/connection more developed – I think this is a personal preference though. The author did a great job creating and telling this story. The chemistry was there, it was just hard for me to completely accept the romantic connection given Parker’s situation when the book opened and the early interactions with Sefa. The author does of course provide information that lets the reader know how it's feasible these two would so quickly make an emotional connection. There is action, suspense, heartache, excitement, found family, love, and joy. here is also a passing glance at other mythical type creatures, which makes the possibilities for the books that may follow in this series endless. Overall, this was a great tale! This author always keeps you moving through her stories and trying to guess what may come next. T I am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Arc review: Spoilers!
This book took me on a wild adventure and I wish it didn’t have to end! Leigh is a mastermind and I am so excited for the rest of her books in this series!

The plot and characters were amazing! There is not a character that I didn’t like, and each page sucked me in more and more! I loved the interactions with Parker’s sisters, especially Eliza, and I am so intrigued to read the sisters stories! The interactions between the characters was everything, with mixtures of so many personalities that went so well together! Made reading this book even more fun!

Can we talk about the vampires?! Sefa had me at “So this is the murderer I’m supposed to keep an eye on. Not much to her.” And then he made me fall in love with him at “I’ve seen your face in my head everyday since you left, and still, it didn’t do you justice.” I absolutely loved the banter and bond between Parker and Sefa!

There are witches too?! I absolutely love Kalina and Aroha! I feel like they are such strong characters! I would love to read a book about Aroha’s story!

Loved every bit of Mist Guild Archives and I highly recommend!

I received this as an ARC but this is my honest opinion and review.

This book, is Leigh's best book yet!

Okay, i absolutely and completely loved this story!! OMG, *deep breath*, i need to process all that's happened!

It's got myths, rituals, witches, vampires and romance! A murder mystery and a sprinkle of spice! Loved how the story and the characters evolved throughout the book. I enjoyed discovering this new magical world through Parker's eyes and felt like the chapters from Sefa's POV came at the perfect time! I fell in love not only with their story but also with other characters, which had me giggle and cry big ugly tears, all in the space of a few chapters.

Once i started this book, it was all i could think about and i couldn't put it down! The plot twists were top knotch and ohhh i can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. I need to know what happens next and i need to know now!

Having read other books of Leigh's, i must say, this is by far, her best book yet! And you should totally read it!

ARC REVIEW
Love the story. Very obviously influenced by pop culture vampires which is okay, since recently it’s been so popular that it’s hard to come up with something that hasn’t been done already. On the other side of that coin, there are a lot of things that are unique about this specific story that I haven’t seen before.
I feel like there were a lot of bits that could’ve been more fleshed out, and some of the information that’s revealed could’ve been revealed later on to build the tension a little bit more. The dialogue could’ve been a little bit better.
The pacing was a little too fast for my tastes, I like to be practically screaming for the information by the time that it’s given, but this one felt like it was given almost immediately.
Again, I really love the story, and it could’ve had a four or even a five star rating if it had gone through a couple more drafts. I look forward to reading the next one.

I received a free eARC of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Leigh has absolutely knocked it out the park yet again. I adored every single moment of this book, and will definitely be reading again in the future. I absolutely loved Parker and my heart broke as nothing seemed to go her way. When she is kept on the island, she stays with Sefa - a strange and moody security man. I absolutely loved their relationship dynamics, and whilst I may be biased as Forced Proximity is one of my favourite tropes, I was begging to see how things between them would play out. Adding Vampires into the mix? It just made for an absolutely amazing tale, full of twists and turns.

At 219 pages, this book took me just over 2 hours to read. There are some violent scenes and adult content, so please bear this in mind before you read. Leigh is an absolutely amazing author, and I can’t wait to see what comes with book 2.

9/10

Quick note that this is an ARC review:

What a fun, fast, and unique new take on a vampire story! The author's writing style is easy to read and really draws you into an addictive plot filled with vampires, magic, difficult choices, romance, and even a volcano.

There were times when I started to question pieces of the story/the likability of certain main characters, but it was like the author read my mind and immediately provided additional details that resolved all of my concerns.

I've been reading a lot of books with toxic characters lately, and it was so refreshing and healing to read about genuinely caring, nurturing, and supportive people in between the bouts of carnage and suspense. There was never a moment to get bored, as the action kept flowing.

I'm now emotionally invested in seeing what comes next in this series.
