There are many uses for this book, The Apache, which is why I decided to add it to my favorites shelf. It is nonfiction and packed with information that students could dive into for a class research project or book report. This is also a great way to incorporate Native American culture into the classroom, which could spark lots of conversation regarding the different times of tribes that made up North America years ago. The book covers how The Apache hunted, gathered, constructed their families, created shelter and clothing, all the way through The Apache culture today.

This book would primarily be utilized in the later grades (3-5) and would probably would be most effective through independent reading. It discusses important vocabulary that is inclusive such as extended families, nomads, cultural foods and instruments, etc. These terms could also teach comprehension through students identifying different actives The Apache participated in and all of the foods they ate. I would suggest that the teacher incorporates other Native American tribes into lessons after introducing this book to avoid tokenizing their culture. The teacher would have to explicitly explain that not all Native American tribes had the same culture, this is just one example of a historical tribe.
