Supernatural Saviors #2

Goddess of Death

Rate this book
Having been taken from her home as a child after her parents made a deal with the Sea Goddess out of fear, Ocevia Kallallis became one of Miris' enslaved mermaids, tasked with luring souls to the depths for the remainder of her life. It was a lonely existence, with only the screams of her nightmares keeping her company. Until she met Azure Galanides, that is. After living her first eighteen years as a human, Azure was forced to make a deal with the Sea Goddess when her little sister drowned, trading her life for the child's. A stubborn nature, and a burning desire to return to her former life, made Azure's transformation into a cursed mermaid something she couldn't help but fight against, even if it meant beatings. Ocevia never broke the rules, however, as her fear of the whip always kept her in check. The decision Azure makes to rescue a human man instead of sacrificing him to the sea forces Ocevia to break out of her monotonous life, becoming something she never imagined she would again, and discovering things she never knew were possible. After years of never dreaming for something more, her longing for the forbidden grows ever stronger as she and her friend fight to escape Miris’ reach. Are Ocevia's dreams of freedom and love possible? Or will she spend her entire life as one of the cursed?

This book was so unnecessary 😤 from the beginning is a retelling of book one from ocevias point of view. BUT IT WAS ALL THEM SAMEEEE. I had so high hopes.
Ive been dying for a good mermaid romance, this was not it. I wish i could love the story because the books are so beautifully made but GOD! Nothing happened on this book
Like i said IT WAS ALL THE SAME AS BOOK one.

I think what i really wanted was mermaid romance with no humans involved lol

Also the romantic aspect of it was not there
“Little one” - “sea maiden” 🤮
Oh well, at least they look pretty on my bookshelf 😭

I essentially dnf'd this book.
This was practically copy, paste from book one. Mild variations since we are in a different characters pov. I got so infuriated that so many paragraphs were practically identical. I understand the dialogue would be identical, which makes total sense. It was everything else that bothered me.

✨ARC Review✨

The mermaid, the kraken and forbidden love. This is definitely an empowering read. Ocevia goes from being captured and forced to take lives in hopes to be set free to MerQueen! Some spice scenes and adventure. Such a good read!

Goddess of Death is the second part in the Supernatural Savior series by C.A. Varian. This will be the first book I’ll ever read from this author. I was drawn to this book because of the amazing cover. This book is about sirens, which I really like. But what will I think of Goddess of Death?

This book is amazing! It has some really nice fantasy elements, but also a good storyline.

Girl, what was the point of this book 😩

The book itself isn’t bad but I can’t score it the same as the first book, because it was just a repeat experience.

I finished the first book this morning and gave it such a nice review because I genuinely enjoyed it, then immediately picked up this one. And it literally felt like reading the same book all over again… because IT IS. It’s the first book from start to finish, just in the other mermaid’s POV. You learn nothing new, there are no twists because you got those in the first book already. The spicy scenes weren’t even good enough to make it worth the other POV.

The epilogue (which was the last 10 pages) was the only good part of this book. Honestly, the epilogue should’ve been the BEGINNING of this book, & the story start there. Would’ve been 100 times better. Between the ending of the first book & the title of this one, I expected a totally different story that propelled us forward, not take us backward.

You could just tandem read the two books together to get both POVs and save yourself time.

A fascinating Litte Mermaid retelling with a cracking twist

What if the mermaids from myths were cursed to take lives of sailors and punished for saving even one soul…to get their own human life back? What if the seashell necklace harnessed a lot more dangerous power than a disembodied voice?

Ocevia is 11 when she’s bargained off to the Sea Goddess Miria to keep the creature she turns into under control and in exchange serve as a mermaid cursed to take 50k lives over her lifetime. This is worse than 100yrs before the mast in Pirates.

I liked how the author used the elements of The Little Mermaid and twisted them in a fun but savage way. I especially liked what she did with the Sea Witch. And how she wove anti-slavery movement into the tale. Loved the manly Markos - yummy connamon roll - and liked Azure’s and Ocevia’s friendship. The vamp attack on their escape route was a bit random, tho, tbh.

This was book 2 of Supernatural Saviors series, but can totally be read as a standalone - never read book 1, but I think I’ll go and do that.

Recommended for lovers of dark Little Mermaid retellings and paranormal romantasy with spice (body parts mentioned and 3 hot scenes).

I wish it wouldn’t have taken forever to finish this book! It was amazing. It was Ocevia and her being forced to be a siren to hide an even bigger secret! She was forced into a life sentence of collecting souls for Miris(the sea goddess)! Ocevia thought she would always be alone until she met Azure and they became best friends. One day Azure went missing and Ocevia went out to look for her and found her to with a human man Elilos . This was against the rules so they planned to escape and go inland and never to return to the sea again. While on the run Ocevia met Markos a friend of Elios along with two other men to help them get inland. While close to safety Azure gets kidnapped and the group then set off to find. Ocevia knowing she has been taken to the sea and to the sea goddess lair, she is risking her self and her mate and Azure mate for being killed and her being kidnapped as well. It’s a great story and if you looking for a a quick pace story this is it. I know you’ll enjoy as much as I did.

This is the second book in a duology. The physical books are beautiful and the story concept is interesting. However, I felt like the writing was lacking. I can usually look past the quality of the writing, but when it takes me out of the story then I simply cannot. In this case, I felt like the author did a lot of "telling" rather than "showing" making it a struggle to get through book one. Being that it is a duology, I felt I would push through book two to see how the story ends. Book two is from the POV of the friend from book one. This would normally be an interesting take as you get to experience different events from a different character, as they were happening simultaneously with the first book's events. Not in this case. This book retold the same exact events with no new or shocking information. I felt bored to the point that I debated skipping to the end to see if anything changes, but instead just DNFed it. I'm sad I didn't care for this duology because I really wanted to like it.

Goddess of Death by C.A Varian is book two in the Supernatural Saviors. After reading the first book in this series I absolutely knew I needed to read this one as well. The author has such craftsmanship with the description of the world. I could picture everything as I read. Check your trigger warning just to be on the safe side.

I absolutely loved Ocevia's character, there was so much going on with her. I was rooting for her so much. I love sea mythology and creatures and having this character work as a Siren was freaking amazing!!! I loved all the twists and turns, it kept me engaged. Plus I really enjoyed the romance. I couldn’t put my kindle down. Also have you seen the covers of the books!?! They’re beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this book and I think you’ll love both books!

I happen to love mythical creatures, so when I saw this engaging story about a mermaid, I simply dived into it. Ocevia has suffered significantly as a captive to the Sea Goddess and when the chance arises, she throws herself alongside her dear friend Azure into the unknow.

The love story happened all of a sudden and I would have preferred for the characters to learn more about one another prior to diving into their feelings. However, considering the situation the protagonists found themselves in, I reckon it was necessary for the bonding to take place as the future is not guaranteed.

The book is engaging and the writing is fairly descriptive, which provides more in-depth knowledge within the story. The story is pleasant though a bit short, but nevertheless enjoyable.

Besides the prologue and epilogue, it's the same exact story of book 1 just told from Ocevia's pov. I thought this book would either continue what happened after Ocevia became the sea goddess and her life with Markos. I'm actually really disappointed with how the story was the same. I did like seeing Markos and Ocevia fall in love from her pov, but I wanted something more. I wanted her to see her family again or see her being the amazing sea goddess I know she would be. A gorgeous cover though with beautiful edges and teal blue pages!!!!

I had to speed read this whole book because it is the EXACT same book as the first one. I was hoping it was Ocevia's story taking place before or after book 1, nope, it's just her POV through the entire first book. Since she was in 80% of book 1, the entire monologue was a complete copy and I felt I was just reading book 1 all over again. There was maybe a total of 2-3 chapters that took place separately from book 1. If anything, these books should've been combined into one, or had a back and fourth POV, but not 2 books.

Book Review: Goddess of Death by C.A. Varian 📖

While I was excited to read the second book Goddess of Death was more like a retelling of the first book rather than a fresh story. Experiencing everything from another character’s perspective had its moments, but it didn’t add enough depth to make it feel truly new. The writing was still immersive, and the mythological elements were intriguing, but I was hoping for more originality and forward movement in the plot. If you loved the first book and want to see events from a different POV then the second book might be for you 🧜‍♀️

This is a good story that gave me a whole new appreciation for mermaid stories. While I have not read the first one, I had no trouble following this one. Ocevia and Markos make this story a great read, they kept me invested and I loved this original mermaid story!!! Good Read! No Spoilers!
I received an ARC and I am Leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to, and this story captivated me!!!

This book is to be read in tandem with Song of Death. This isn’t a sequel. This tells Ocevia’s part of the story. One that is definitely worth telling. Though I enjoyed this book and I read it several months after Song of Death, there were some moments of slow plot. This book took me longer to read then Song of Death because I started to remember a lot of the previous book. There are some nice spicy mermaid moments. This is still worth a read to finish off the duet.

I wasn’t crazy about the first book but the second book was 10/10! I absolutely loved it. I think Ocevia was just the sweetest and she was so positive and optimistic. Really really loved it. I also don’t think reading book one is totally necessary for anyone thinking about reading these. You pretty much get the exact same story just from Azure’s perspective.

Again, another fantastic read! I appreciate that it's not only a different mc, but related still. Although I read the first book, this could easily stand on its own. Captivating, beautifully written and keeps you needing to know what happens next!

Ok

Good book but kinda disappointed that it was pretty much the first book but told in Ocevia point of view. I would have liked it better if it maybe had a little bit of her point of view from the first story and more new adventure with her.

This book was just as good as the first one. I loved reading both point of views of the mermaid friends. Honestly between both books it was the friendship between the mermaids that i cared about more than their new found mates.

The second book is just a repeat of the first book but in the best friends POV

I would have liked a little back story on her life but more about her story as the new sea goddess and her life with Markos

These books were just ok for me. I feel like it could have been one book and done

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. I loved that it explained what happened during the first book from a second POV. It was well written. Looking forward to reading more of her books. On the Saving Scarlett next.

I was sooo disappointed. I absolutely loved “Song of Death” and was looking forward to a continuation. This book was literally a retelling of the first book. I was hoping for more of Ocevia’s story continued on. I was hoping to hear more about their lives from that point forward.

Truly a disappointing read! I bought this when it first realesed on tiktok but to say that the aí covers and prints were a red flag is a understatement. I regret buying the books, at least they look pretty on my book shelf. I say don't even pick it up! Save your time and money!

I had such high hopes for this book. I thought I would get Ocevia’s POV after becoming the goddess but nope. It is literally the exact same story, word for word in some parts like it was copy and pasted with some edits. You get 5 boring pages of new storyline at the end. Very disappointing.

This was an exact replica of the first book. There were some subtle differences, but overall, you didn't need to read this one. I read all the way through it, but nothing new happened in this book that happened in the first. I was a little disappointed.
