In essentials unity. In nonessentials liberty. In all things charity. Almost daily Christians are bombarded by strange new teachings about Jesus. The worldwide proliferation of new religious movements has created confusion in the church. In down-to-earth language, Doctrine Twisting addresses and answers these questions. With the firm conviction that God has sufficiently and finally revealed himself in Christ and through the Bible, H. Wayne House and Gordon Carle explore in detail the doctrines of the Trinity, revelation, sin, Christ's divinity, the atonement, faith and works, the second coming and the afterlife. In each chapter they outline the biblical basis for the historic orthodox position and then analyze and refute deviations from these truths. Doctrine Twisting will help Christians more fully serve God and minister to others through a better understanding of the essential doctrines of the Bible and the doctrinal errors of new religious movements.
Dr. H. Wayne House is Distinguished Research Professor of Theology, Law, and Culture at Faith International University. He holds six degrees, including a doctorate in Law from Regent University and a doctorate in Exegetical Theology from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Dr. House has authored or edited nearly 40 books and directed study tours to Israel, Greece, Turkey, and other biblical sites. He is the founder of Christian Perspectives International, a non-profit organization committed to helping believers grow in their spiritual walk through biblical education. He is also a founder and the first president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and served as president of the Evangelical Theological Society.
House and Carle have written a book that, even though it’s not the most interesting book to read, should prove useful to any orthodox believer who wants to be able to address the doctrinal errors of unorthodox groups such as the Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Christian Scientists. The authors rightly focus on the major Christian doctrines of the faith, especially the person of Christ and the nature of salvation. They start each chapter by helping the reader to correctly understand the true doctrines of Scripture: Who is God; who is Jesus Christ; sin; the atonement; salvation; the second coming; and eternal punishment. Then they carefully explain where unorthodox groups err by using Scripture and the written words of each of the groups.
