The book of Acts is the first volume of church history. It connects the early church to the ministry of Jesus and provides the backdrop for the New Testament epistles. The book's focus on the church and the spread of the gospel makes studying Acts a must for any believer serious about living out the Great Commission. Join John MacArthur as he explains each verse in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical. Taking into account the cultural, theological, and Old Testament contexts of each passage, MacArthur tackles interpretive challenges and fairly evaluates differing views, giving the reader confidence in his conclusions. The MacArthur New Testament Commentary series comes from the experience, wisdom, and insight of one of the most trusted ministry leaders and Bible scholars of our day. Each volume was written to be as comprehensive and accurate as possible, dealing thoroughly with every key phrase and word in the Scripture without being unnecessarily technical. This commentary will help to give a better, fuller, richer understanding of God's Word, while challenging the reader to a vibrant personal spiritual walk. A great resource for pastors, teachers, leaders, students, or anyone desiring to dig deeper into Scripture
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
While I've always appreciated the writings of Paul in the Bible, this commentary added so much information about the man himself that I gained new insight into his life and his incredible ministry.
Always helpful. Not the best MacArthur commentary I have read though.
11 Commentaries I used cover to cover through an expositional series through the book of Acts. Of course, this ranking doesn't take into account that some that are lower were higher in specific ways, but all of these "made the cut" for me to spend the time each week to read. 1. Peterson, Schnabel, Polhill 2. Bock 3. Bruce 4. Kistemaker 5. Marshall, Stott 6. MacArthur 7. Custer, Kent
Good sermons on the passages in Acts. They edited to feel more like a commentary. I appreciated the devotional content for application, but would not recommend it as a detailed or academic treatment of the text
Such a great help as I was studying through Acts! I've used commentaries as reference books before, but never read them all the way through and it was so helpful and I learned so much!
What I have learned from MacArthur's commentary is that he does not believe in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit was only for the Apostles. I totally disagree.
