Pride #2

Discovering Pride

Rate this book
Lacey Jordan was a woman who knew what she wanted…and she wanted nothing to do with the new doctor in town. He had the perfect smile, perfectly tan muscles, and a way with people—her people. This was her town, her family, and her life. He’d come into town and shaken everything up including her heart.

Aaron was running away from a hard breakup where more then just his heart had been broken. At this point all he wanted to do was take over his grandfather’s medical practice, work on his new house, and turn it into the first place he could call his home. He liked the town of Pride; in fact, he had spent the only good parts of his childhood here. What he hadn’t expected was to bump into a fairy goddess, bumping hard enough to get a concussion and have his heart mended at the same time.

Then, the town gets a visit that will change their lives forever, if they can survive.

★★★★★Discovering Pride by Jill Sanders (The Pride Series Book 2)

I was given this Beta(revised copy) in exchange for my honest review.

I read this series out of order. I read, Finding Pride, and really liked it. But then I Beta read Returning Pride and Lasting Pride. I figured I knew the outcome of this, and would wait for my re-read. What a mistake! Although, I technically knew the results of Discovering Pride, I missed a great story. This has got to be my favorite of The Pride Series.

I can relate with Lacey. She grew up in a small town, was the firecracker of town, and doesn't put up with anyone's shit. She does not play games and expects you not to, either. And it doesn't hurt that apparently she could be my younger twin, lol. I love that she coordinates her undergarments with her accessories, even if it's unintentional.

A chance encounter with a gorgeous stranger, sets the stage for an embarrassing, not turning back, beginning. But, as in life, the past catches up with a vengeance, and lives are forever changed.

Thanks to the author for showing me a different side of Lacey.

Prosecution:
It was..cute. It definitely wasn't YA or New Age, this is meant for adults! But, there were so many typos and run on sentences! This novel could definitely use an an editor, as I saw more than a few garish typos. It was written in a way that made it seem like it was typed out on an iPhone or iPad, with all of the typos that seemed more like auto-corrects. I would hire a more thorough editor, or possibly have more people read the manuscript.

Defense:
The story line was to the point! I hate waiting around for a novel to pick up. Aaron and Lacey's romance was pretty precious! It was a quick read.

I pride (no pun intended) myself on the fact that regardless of the book and its contents, I have been able to finished said book. I never thought I would come across a DNF, until now. It really pains me to say that I could not finish Discovering Pride by Jill Sanders. I’m literally sitting here, typing this review up and feeling bad. But, as try as I may, I cannot continue. When you start to skim through the content when you still have basically 30% of the book to go, then you got a problem.

The writing wasn’t completely horrible. I’m sad to say that I’ve actually come across worse. My issue stems from lack of energy and fluidity that I’m looking for in a book’s writing. It felt as if things were being explained to me, in such a methodical and organized way, instead of having the story told and having a picture be created for me. The narrative was superficial and didn’t touch me in any form. It just created this monotonous drone inside my head as I read.

Since the book is a romance, the characters and their chemistry becomes a focal point in which the success of the book is gained or lost. In this case, it was definitely lost for me. For a start, I had an issue with the female lead, Lacey. The book’s synopsis made her out to be an interesting character. Unfortunately, she didn’t turn out that way, for me at least. From the first chapter she came off as impertinent and childish. She didn’t have an aura that made me want to like her. Her subsequent behaviors in regard to Aaron. She claims she doesn’t play games, but one minute she’s making out with him and then the next she pulls away and makes some kind accusation against him. I tried but I couldn’t bring myself to like her. Her counterpart, Aaron, illustrates specifically one of the big issues about the book. Including Aaron, you never got a deep understanding of who the characters are. Sanders’ development of them never got any deeper than the surface. They seemed one dimensional for me. With Aaron, I understood he had absentee parents but I never felt the full effects of that in him. The same can be said in regards to his ex and his falling out. They all seem to be in the periphery for me.

With all that said, it didn’t bode well when the focus is turned to the chemistry and the development of their romance. I actually thought Sanders had something there in regards to a spark between Lacey and Aaron. There were certain scenes where you can believe in the attraction for each. But these scenes were far and few and unfortunately, the writing wasn’t on a level that could really bring it to life in which you can feel that attraction. Furthermore, I didn’t find their romance/relationship credible. I thought there wasn’t enough basis for them to actually have feelings for each other. Sure, they’re physically attracted to each other, but it just seemed like that was where it all boiled down to. I kept waiting for them to have these concrete, intimate moments where you see a genuine bond forming, but it never came. It mostly consisted of Aaron finding Lacey, making out for a bit, Lacey pushing him away and her saying she’s not ready or she’s still not sure about him and needs more time to think about it while trying to avoid him. So it came as a surprise for me when she decides that she sees the good in him and loves him (it was scene involving children’s hand-drawn pictures which could’ve worked if the story was developed better at the start). Basically, I never found their relationship to be credible and thus was never invested in them.

Everything that I have laid out were the specific problems of the book for me, but in the end they all combine to produce a book that was essentially uninteresting and unentertaining for me. It started with potential, but the more I read, the more it became clear that I had no interest in what was going on. There wasn’t anything in the book that I could fall back on to keep myself engaged, such as the writing or the characters. There was nothing about either of those aspects that were well done and interesting. It was very unfortunate that I’ve come across a book that I could not finish. I gave it my best and that’s all I can ask from myself.

Truly loving this series! Pride, Oregon sounds like the perfect small town. The Jordan siblings are pretty amazing. Loved them in book 1. Love them even more in the face of trouble for one of their own. Lacey, middle Jordan and only girl, she is busy running the family restaurant she hasn't paid any attention to love. When the sexy grandson of the town doctor comes along and takes over the practice, he and Lacey find themselves with some serious chemistry. She is Leary about giving him any time in fear of getting hurt by the city boy. Aaron, aka the sexy young doctor, had a past that catches up with him and threatens to keep Lacey away. Love them together and the dynamics if their relationship. Love how easily the Jordan's accepted him. Can't wait for Iian's story!!

After reading book one, I was patiently waiting to get my hands on book two. I finally purchased book two, and I have to say I was impressed. The author has done a great job in writing this book. Lacy had Erin hot In the first chapter. By his description, I don't blame her! After they are introduced properly, they hit it off. I must say the romance between those two built up fast. But I am not complaining, I love romance in any book. Now I am Highly anticipating for book 3 which I hope comes out soon! Until then I will just try to wait patiently.

Discovering Pride tells the story of Lacey and Aaron when Aaron moves to Pride to take over the medical practice of his grandfather when he retires. Aaron is also renovating an old house and doing most of the work on the project to make it his home.

Discovering Prider is a sweet love story with an evil ex-girlfriend, interfering parents and a sweet and very likeable two main characters that work through each problem and find their happy ever after living in a small Oregon town on the Oregon Coast, my favorite place where I used to live.

Great story, Aaron came to the town escaping bitter memories of a betrayal and he meets Lacey. She doesn't fit his type of woman but she does give him back his faith in real love. I only have two problems with this book: editing problems and the plot is way slow most of the book and then it turns tense and sinister on the last quarter of the story.

Enjoyed the story. The story line is almost too simple but loved the characters. One thing for sure: way too many typos and missing words. Seems to be a problem throughout all 3 books in the series that I read. Regardless, I will still read the 4th book as I did enjoy the series so far.

Oh I loved going back to Pride. The small town feel always gets to me I love that I got see to see Todd and Megan. I love the whole family being brought up. I just enjoyed reading about Lacey and her dog. Bernard is always by her side which was one of my favorite parts. Also I enjoyed getting know about Aaron the town new doctor. He fits in perfectly well with town and with Lacey's life. I loved how they first met and how everything came together for them. Can't wait to read the third book and check in to see what's happening in Pride next especially Iian.

This is Lacey and Aaron’s story. Lacey was much more like-able about a quarter of the way through. Before that she was so short toward Aaron. I liked them when her defenses were lower. I liked Aaron he’s such a compassionate doctor and his teasing toward Lacey was fun too. His past that he kept from her a drag but when Lian and Todd confronted him it made it worth it. I also loved how feisty Lacy was with him after that.
Todd and Megan are in this throughout and we get to here all about their new arrival. Lian was here too but not as prominent. The drama and psycho twist is also added in this one. I do like my stories to have that extra punch thrown in. Enjoy?

This was a great book starring my favorite character from Finding Pride which was Lacey. Lacey is written as a tiny little Spitfire that looks like a pixie. Even children see her that way and draw her with wings on her back. With her jet black hair and silver eyes as well as her intuition of always knowing what's going to happen I could almost see it with the only exception is that I believe that should have been smaller. To me 5'4" isn't all that small since its an inch taller than me. One thing that was different about Lacey in this book though was that she wasn't sure of herself in this book at times like she wasn't book one.

Aaron is a whole other story. We met Aaron and book one when he was introduced as Dr. Stevens grandson who is taking over his practice. I didn't care for him at all at first in fact if any man had done to me what he did to Lacey when they first met I would have kicked him in the balls. I don't care how cute he was! You'll understand when you read it. It wasn't until after he discovered just how innocent Lacey was that I started to like him.

Like book one there is a psycho in this book who thinks that they can take whatever they want by hurting others. In this book though its a female psycho rather than a man and trust me, she is really one twisted individual.

I enjoyed this book just as much if not a little bit more than the first book. Book 3 Returning to Pride is already out staring Iian, the youngest of the Jordan clan. I will be sad to see the series end but I can't wait to dive right in since its already out as well.

I listen to this in an audio and totally enjoyed it. I loved the narrator she bought the story to life for me. The author write a wonderful tale that I could not wait to see how it would end.The characters were really down to earth that you really just want to get to know better. The story held my interests and for me was a page turner.

I did feel the book ended to soon, a lot was left out. I would have loved to know how his parents dealt with him and his marriage. I would have enjoyed to have read what happen to his ex.

What I enjoyed was knowing that Aaron found his family after a very unhappy childhood. He is such a wonderful sweet man, you could feel his pain and can understand why he had trust issues. He gave so much of his self to so many it was nice to see things move down a good path for him.

Lacey is a wonderful character for someone so small she really stands out. She is just to sweet and kind, anyone around her will fall in love. She has had to deal with a lot over the years. She is a very strong women but knows when she needs to give a little space.

There are a lot of wonderful characters in this series, it will be a pleasure to see how the author takes this series. She writes about some serious issues and handles those issues very well. I look forward to reading/listening to more from this author.

The second book in the pride series. This book is focus on Lacey from the Jordan clan. She and the new doctor Aaron Stevens are instantly attracted to each other when they accidentally meet up in the pond both swimming in the nude. From there on the story deals with Aaron overcoming a relationship(one of the reasons he moved to pride and replace his grandfather in his practice.) She is dealing with letting go and allowing herself to care for Aaron. Near the end of the book there some serious drama that goes down and a part of me felt one main issue was never explained(maybe in the next book). I still prefer first book over this sequel.

Lacey is headstrong and comes from a very close family. Aaron is the new doctor in town. He came to take over his grandfather's practice. He comes from a very cold family and hasn't ever felt as if he belonged anywhere. He has also had a very bad breakup. He buys a house that needs a lot of work. After a long sweaty day at work, he finds a pond to cool off in and runs into a tiny goddess. They seem like oil and water when they are together, but there is just something there that neither want to let go.

Finding Home!!!

It's never easy to open up about a hurtful past especially for a man.....and I love how despite the pain caused to him by his ex and his parents, Aaron was able to move on with Lacey.....The latter was able to break down those walls that he had built around his heart....And with his grandfather's love and the respect from the people in Pride, Aaron was finally able to find what he has been looking for all his life...A home with a family that put his needs first.....Fantastic read! :)

I love this author, I know that when I read one of her books it's going to be great... Lacey is a tough cookie, she takes care of her brothers and no one gets in her way.. Then the new doctor arrives, breaking down her barriers... Aaron moved from the big city with a broken heart and parents that use him... Taking over his grandfather's surgery, he puts all his energy into fixing up his house... can he make a home here? can he trust again? only time will tell!!

I enjoyed many of the characters and appreciated the development of the small town flavor.

I was confused, I thought Lacey's storyline was going a different direction (her 6th sense). Since I enjoy that type of book, perhaps just my hoped for development.

An unexpected turn at the end...

Book 2 in the series and I am still here. Nice that all the characters of the family from the first book are so firmly involved in this one. Again I guess this author likes to have one deep issue to make everyone realize what they really want and what is important. I'll go for Book 3 now...

Yet another great book in the series

This series had me hooked from the first book. Loved how Lacey's relationship with Aaron developed and how certain circumstances allowed Megan to use her horrible past experiences for good. If you haven't read this series, you should.

This was the second book in the series. I enjoyed Lacey's character she is a family oriented, strong, funny and someone you would want as a friend. You cheer for her and laugh with her and want her to get her man. This is a great book and I can't wait now for Ian's story.

Wow...just WOW!

Lacey is straight forward, loving, generous, and commander of her life.
Meeting Aaron while both are skinny dipping shook up her world. Dr. Aaron Stevens escaped a dishonest fiancee, was intrigued by the water nymph and.
Look out for the fireworks!
Great read.
