Debora Pearson is the author of several books that have received praise from Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal and Publishers Weekly. For the past decade, she has worked as a children's librarian with the Toronto Public Library, where she has met many newcomer families who are learning English for the first time. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.
This book is about using the letters in the alphabet to teach young children about different types of vehicles. This could be used for a child that is interested in vehicles. After reading this book give each child a letter and ask them draw a vehicle that goes with that letter. When they are finished ask them the name of their vehicle and write it on their drawing. Then as a class we can write our own alphabet book using their illustrations.
Too many sentences for my almost 2 year old, but I just read the first sentence and we zipped right through it. He’s asked to re-read the book and it kept his attention.
My truck loving boy was really interested and liked hunting for the letters on each page. I appreciate that there seems to be some alliteration to reinforce the letter sounds.
Alphabeep!: A Zipping, Zooming ABC by Debora Pearson, illustrated by Edward Miller is an alphabet book using vehicle and traffic sign names.
Miller's colorful illustrations use a side view perspective. Most of the book has double spread illustrations. My favorite images are construction, logging truck, police, crossing, utilities and zamboni.
The text does not always flow well, but does feature some strong onomatopeia. Active vocabulary words used include shrieking, wailing, whooshing, zipping, zooming, gushes, thunders, growls, douse, bumps, splashes, speeding, howls, dropping, scrubbing, reeling, dragging, hoists, soars, darting, dashing, and creeps. Kids who love vehicles should enjoy this look at the many different transportation and construction vehicles. 3.5 stars.
For ages 2.5 to 5, alphabet, vehicle, traffic signs, transportation, things that go, letter-knowledge, vocabulary, onomatopoeia, noises, and fans of Debora Pearson and Edward Miller.
Brief summary A series of different vehicles rush past in alphabetical order. There is a brief description of what is going on with the vehicle and its job. Annotation This is a good vocabulary book, especially for children who like vehicles. It gives names to different types of trucks and the jobs that accompany them. Age appropriateness 0-6 years I think this is a good example of vocabulary and an okay example of letter knowledge. The vocabulary is varied and rich for types of trucks and jobs. The letter knowledge is minimal, but they do utilize the alphabet to go in order and they also give the upper and lowercase of each letter for reference. Opinion I like this book, I think I would use it in a storytime or lesson where there are vehicles. The colorful illustrations and the simple pictures of trucks makes this a story that students will also enjoy reading by themselves.
Picturebook Preschool-First Grade Summary: this alphabet book was centered around trucks and road signs from an ambulance to the word zamboni. Evaluation: This alphabet book named Alphabeep lends the idea of vehicles moving about with horns ready to be blown at any minute. it is a fun book with sounds and occupants in action. the inside front and back covers have all of the alphabets and various road signs of real to life colors displayed. A child's interest of the vehicles are intensified with the sounds they make in moving and stopping. From time to time the worker can be very vocal with their demands of directions to the drivers. Girls as well as boys could benefit from learning their alphabets to the names and usage of the vehicles.
julian LOVED this. although he was confused by the final one: Zamboni. he thought it was to melt the pond so it wouldn't be icy anymore, and was really worried that the ice skaters were going to "get drowned".
he also didn't like the ice skaters. he thought they were being too dangerous.
can you tell my kids have been raised in the south? Arkansas to Mexico to Texas, and now....Iowa. looking forward to our introduction to Winter Sports this year. ;)
A zip-zooming alphabet book, for all vehicle lovers, that includes both upper – and lowercase letters. The onomatopoeic sounds “clatter”, vocabulary “zamboni machine”, vibrant illustrations, and the familiarity of road signs will capture young audiences.
This is a fun alphabet book that goes through all the letters of the alphabet, matching them up with different forms of transportation. Although I loved the alphabet portion of the book, the reading is a little hard for students who would be learning their ABC's. It would be a fun read aloud though.
This is a great alphabet book for children who are particularly interested in vehicles. Each page has a different kind of truck or car that goes along with the corresponding letter of the alphabet. The text is longer than some alphabet books, but it has a specific target audience who will enjoy the additional descriptions.
I thought that this was an interesting alphabet book. I think that it would be a good book to read to younger children, but probably not a very good alphabet book for them to read on their own. I feel as if a lot of younger children would have a hard time with some of the words in he book. But it would be a good read for children who already know how to read well.
My 5 year old daughter loved this book and rated it 5 stars. She enjoyed how it entwined the alphabet and trucks/equipment/other highway information, like signs. I personally thought it was a little choppy. It had good information but I kept thinking it would rhyme and it would throw off the reading. Not the greatest execution but a lot of neat information.
Very cute and appropriate for kids who are autophiles (is that a word?) Anyway, it has a different vehicle or traffic sign for each letter and has nice illustrations throughout. A little long (requires some attention span), but overall not too taxing for a get-up-and-go 2 1/2 y/o.
Jubei loves trucks and therefore loves this book;however, some of the sentences are kind of awkward to read. Bottom line: The book is cute, but doesn't really "flow" the greatest. Despite my opinion, Jubei doesn't seem to mind a bit though!! :)
Not my favorite alphabet book. Some of the letter-vehicle combinations were pretty clever, but I didn't enjoy the text at all. Really long, awkward sentences, with a rhythm that always gave the impression that a rhyme was coming - and then didn't.
I am impressed that the author could find A - Z lettered cars or road signs. Didn't have a clue there were so many types of vehicles on the road. I'm sure a child that loves to hear about things that go will find this book more interesting than I did.
Alphabeep is a fun little book all about transportation. I know my boy who loves his cars and anything automobile has enjoyed it very much. It goes through the alphabet with an automobile, road sign, or direction to go with each. "A is for amubulance." and "E is for exit sign"
This is a great book for early childhood readers to go through the alphabet. The book describes cars with every letter of the alphabet. I also like this book because it is very colorful and that helps keep young kids interested in the book.
There is more to this book than just the ABC's. It is full of information on all different types of vehicles, road signs, and other information. The pages are full of interesting illustrations and they are not complex or too busy.
Matt would like to give this 1 star. Compared to Alphabet Trucks the text of this book is pretty weak. P however acts like its the greatest book ever so we'll knock a star off P's review to account for adult opinion.
