I’d read so many of Stine’s Goosebumps books as a kid, which soon lead me to the Point Horror series. When I spotted he’s name attached to this range, I instantly wanted to read as many as possible.

20 years later and with numerous podcasts and blogs covering the books, it’s made me want to read them all over again!

The Babysitter:
Jenny starts her new job babysitting Donny, but with a Babysitter attacker being reported in the news it makes her even more nervous on her first day.
Stine really has fun with the jump scares here, most of the cliffhangers are weakly resolved - but that’s the fun part with these books.
All the classic tropes are used with creepy anonymous phone calls, a cat jumping out at Jenny and the obnoxious young boy.
I really enjoyed revisiting this one.

The Boyfriend:
Joanne is told that her ex-boyfriend has died in an accident, but when she constantly sees him around town she starts to question if there’s some unfinished business between the pair.
A fun fast paced story, I’ve re-read quite a few of these Point Horrors now so the ending was quite obvious.
I like the way that Stine raised the stakes throughout.

The Girlfriend:
Scotty cheats on he’s girlfriend Lora whilst she’s away on holiday with Shannon. The only problem is Shannon soon becomes totally obsessed with Scotty, what price is he about to pay?
This is the first Point Horror title that I’ve come across which has a male as the main protagonist of the story, which really helped it stand out!

This is a compilation of three stories so I am going to review each story:

The Babysitter

Same old plot of R.L Stine; there is a babysitter and shit happens while she's babysitting

The only different thing about this is, it ends happily and not this open-ended/no closure stories he usually did.

Also this thought me a lot of things about horror

1. Don't stay at houses with pendulum clocks
2. Don't investigate
3. Don't say who's there!

The Boyfriend
Among the three stories, this is what I like the most. Although the main character, Joanna deserves all the bullshit she went through in this book. I enjoyed the plot twists in this book and specially the ending.

What I learned about this? Ask your bestfriend if she likes the guy who is courting you because she might mess your life if you're not cautious.

The Girlfriend
DON'T EVEN BOTHER!!!!!!!!

just kidding but seriously this story is just annoying and boring. And the act that they keep on saying bogus multiple times just annoyed the hell out of me so don't even bother to read this story.

All three of the novels within this collection are paranormal fake-outs. I liked it, but would prefer ghosts or other paranormal shit to exist within the world of the book..

I’ll give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it has everything I like about a book. It jumps to the next topic nicely and has excellent details about the characters and the environment. The Book didn’t have any weird made-up words and took weird how old history books would. It is modern and nice to figure out what the characters are saying. All the characters have their tone when talking. It is just a magnificent book.
I liked how the protagonist bring a mean and judgy personality. It’s fun to read because her personality is all over the place. Joanna is just like Regina George from “Mean Girls”. Joanna has boy problems; for teens, this is a great book for them to read. This story also has death and the suspension of finding out what is happening. The book has fun little teen romance things like going to a high school party and late-night car rides. Joanna has a boyfriend named Dex he is not her ideal type of boyfriend just a fling as she thought. He was more than that, but she thought he wasn’t good enough for her. I kind of agree he did do a lot of stupid things, too.
I did like how the story started with death, I wish the story had a little more background for Joanna and Dex. Not only that, but I didn’t like how in the end Joanna kind of lost her mean girl attitude, I wish she kept that throughout the story. She made it interesting to read. There wasn’t a lot I didn’t like, most of it was good. I found the amount of characters made it hard to remember who was who. This book was just good, and I want to read the rest of Stine’s books.
Reading this book has given me perspective on how real the author made Joanna feel and her emotions and actions toward every situation. The author put his feet in Joanna’s shoes. I see how vividly the author used as describing gory scenes of the book, it is nice to picture the views from the main character. This book was a great reading and everyone I know should read it.

Picked up this collection of spooky kids stories in the charity shop a few months ago with the intention of reading around Halloween - and I did exactly that!

The first story was my favourite and I was genuinely creeped out. The next one was ok and the last one was a decent read but rubbish ending.

A fun spooky little read for spooky season!
