I'm glad I read this book--quite glad--but it was a little hit or miss. For example, I don't understand why after the very inspiring Molefi Asante piece challenging postmodernity for Afrocentric post-colonial research we suddenly returned to historical criticism (really good stuff, but still--let's end on a piece from the founder of all this, especially in a section of the anthology expressing a look to the future). Some of the pieces seemed less well-organized and kind of...hmmm...graduate. But the highs of this book are incredibly nuanced and sophisticated, especially for opening up alternative canons.
