The King of the seas is back...

After the battle to save King Lars and Queen Kennedy’s throne against Stavros, a tragic loss shatters what was left of Croygen’s heart, and the Silver Tongue Devil returns to his first love—the sea.

Trying to regain his title as the King of pirates, Croygen hears of another who is challenging his claim—the woman pirate known as Puss in Boots. Ruthless as she is beautiful, men desire and fear her.

Katrina Roth grew up on a ship, trained by the best, until the man she idolized, the captain she loved, turned his back on her, forcing her from the only home she’d known, leaving her life in ruins. She is now set on destroying him, and nothing, including her best friend Killian, can compete with her need for revenge.

She will make the infamous Silver Tongue Devil pay.

When fate leads Kat and Croygen to each other after centuries apart, Kat is no longer the innocent young girl, and Croygen is no longer the man he once was. Their attraction and hate walk a thin line, forcing them into a turbulent partnership on the hunt for what is called The Nectar: a substance found after the Fae War, which could be the most powerful and wanted object in the world. If it really exists.

However, they aren’t the only ones out there searching for it. Cutthroat and lawless, they either work together to find this elusive treasure or become each other’s enemies.

Kill or be killed. And dead men tell no tales…

DNF at 50%. Look, I get it. Eroticas are loved by some. I don’t mind my spicy romances every now and then. This one was spicy alright but spicy in the sense of sugar trying to be ancho. Everyone is always going off on cis men writing smut horribly but nobody ever cared about the cis women writing smut like they’re a guy. I literally lost it, laughing out loud at work, when the FMC’s asscrack was described as the “seam of her ass.” You couldn’t think of ANY other descriptor???
And the whole “magical pussy” thing. Oh my gods. I gagged. Gagged! You cannot convince me the author didn’t used to write scripts for pornos with words like that. Gods awful smut aside, I had two other major issues with this book.

1. The plot. “Plot,” really. There wasn’t any. And what little scraps that could be counted as plot could be found were so confusing it made my head hurt. What year was it? What was the timeline? The first five or so chapters kept bouncing around and i couldn’t figure out what the timeline was. I THINK the characters were multiple centuries old and i THINK it took place in the modern times???? Maybe???? Also I promise the author has never been on a ship before how do you get from the Caribbean to India to Shanghai in a matter of DAYS babe it doesn’t WORK LIKE THAT.

2. The “romance.” I’ve read some gods awful romance before. I’ve read “dark romance” where the author just glorified abuse. Literally there was no romance at all here. None. Not a speck. However, the author tried to push a romance between the MMC and the FMC despite the MASSIVE age gap and (prepare yourselves) the fact that the MMC was like an UNCLE to the FMC. Both of them admitted that. (Here’s a quote from the actual book: “…lying here, my c0ck throbbing, I was absolutely repulsed by myself … No matter what she had grown up to look like, at one time, Kat was a twelve-year-old I thought of as a niece.”) WTF???!!!! Age differences aside, this man was her dad’s best friend and basically an uncle to her. I’m starting to think this book didn’t take place on a ship in the ocean but rather in good ole Alabama.

This book was amongst the grossest “spicy fantasies” I’ve ever read. The amount of red flags in this would make communist China jealous. If you want an erotica, I promise you there are thousands of better ones out there. Don’t be like me. Don’t waste your money or your time unless you want to laugh at something so terrible. If you liked this book, seek help or maybe leave Alabama and stop giving your uncle heart eyes. Therapy can only do so much.

On a brighter note, if you ever doubt your writing skills and worry you won’t ever get published or have a fan base, don’t worry! This book is proof that even the worst of things can make it!

4.5/5 (ARC Review)

Yeah I got this ARC yesterday, yeah I devoured it like it was MY JOB. I can't tell yall how long I was waiting for this book okay. From the minute Stacey announced it I heard pirates, I heard fae, I heard set in the same world as Savage Lands (my one true love series) I said say less, this book was written for me like she might as well just dedicate it to me at this point.

We all know that feeling though of our most anticipated book of the year being a let down... I'm so glad this wasn't that. It was pretty much everything I expected and wanted out of a pirate fantasy, paranormal romance.

We have our fmc Katrina who grew up on the seas but was forced to leave because (so they say) the seas are no place for a woman (I mean come on thats prime revenge plot material right there) and we have our mmc the ever lovely Silver Tongue Devil himself who is jaded in more ways than one. Shes out for revenge and he is out to reclaim is old title of king of the seas. What could go wrong?

PLEASE... LIKE THIS PLOT WAS MADE FOR ME! It delivered! The pacing was fantastic and the plot was so simple to follow which is why I could read it so quick! The banter was immaculate and the tension and spice???? 😏 There is not much more I can say about it other than it did what it was supposed to do and I applaud Stacey Marie Brown for always being able to write a hot and entertaining story.

I will say, the only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars was because of some of the dialogue. This is supposed to be a modern pirate story but still used some of the old pirate lingo to point where I just did not feel like it was necessary, but it was easy to overlook.

Hint: Listen to the Pirates of the Caribbean sound track while reading this book it only adds to the expeirence!

Thank you to The Next Step PR and Stacey Marie Brown for sending me this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Pirate/Fae romance! Enemies to lovers. Kiss or kill her trope. The magical world building was great. More people should be talking about this series. His & her povs. Pirate Shadow Daddy & cat shape shifter pirate. Fated mates & also so smutty.

Narration 4⭐

No one is more shocked than me about not loving a SMB book. I've always been a huge fan of hers so I was super excited for this, but overall this was just not my cup of tea.
This is more Erotica than Romance, which is not my thing (even though the spice is very well written).
Their relationship was a bit off for me. Hes known her since she was a child and thought of her as a niece until she was sent away, only to come back for revenge (cuz apparently he killed her father) only for them to lust after each in the first 10 minutes. Honestly it just didn't make any sense. I would definitely say this is more character driven. There was a beginning of a plot, but we moved about 2 inches the entire book.
I would also add that you will need to read her other 3 series before this one, or else you will be LOST. It felt like there was too much emphasis on the other characters than our main ones for me to feel connected to their story.
Ugh. I wanted to love this sooooo much, and I totally see why others would vibe with this, but its a pass from me 😭

A very good spicy pirate-y book when you are in the mood. I don't think it was as dark as I wanted it to be but it was very enjoyable and I liked the cliffhanger ending. I will definitely read the second one at some point. While I have read some of the savagelands books it did feel like at times I should know some of the other characters that were talked about. So I probably should have read those first, but I still enjoyed this one. There was a comedic element at some point that felt a little out of left field for me as well.

ARC Review 📝

Normal people: he did what to whom? Unforgivable!
Me: he didn’t call Rez in how long? He is de*d to me.

See, Rez is my favorite in this universe. West is my book. And our Silver Tongue Devil had some groveling to do until I let him into my heart after I realize he hasn’t been in contact with her for quite a bit. And by that I mean, two chapters. That was it. I was a goner. Puff. Take it.

I bet I wouldn’t even need any chapters at all if I had read the Collectors series. So, worry not. If you haven’t read it neither, still READ this one because you will understand everything and you’re going to fall head over heels with a devilish pirate and a kitty cat 🐈‍⬛

*commercial break to say: THE EASTER EGGS! THE EASTER EGGS GAVE ME LIFE*

He sent her away when she was young. She lost everything because of him. And she swore vengeance. A series of unfortunate events ends up forcing them to work together. And now two sides of her fight to win: the side that wants to end him and the side that wants to give into this growing feeling between them.

But she’s no longer a little girl crushing on the captain. She’s the pirate that will do anything to save her ship and her crew.

*commercial break to say: Savage Lands was hot but the chemistry between Kat and Croygen is pure 🔥*

I’m so happy to be back in the Savage Lands world. And I need book 2 desperately after that ending 😫

What’s inside:

🖤enemies to lovers
🖤pirates and fae
🖤betrayal and revenge

As surprising as this is, this book was my first SMB book! And obviously I will be reading more (my bff has been hounding me to read Savage Lands and I’m just behind on life).

While this book CAN be read as a standalone, I feel the world building and some characters and character development is missed out on by not reading the previous series. Darkness and Lightness series.

The FMC is a bad-a cat shifter out for revenge and ends up having to work with the one person she vowed kill. Enter our MMC a swaggering pirate that was a delight. Their tension built through the entire book and I feel like an even bigger explosion will happen in book 2.

This book is urban/dystopian fantasy with enemies to lovers, pirates, and a treasure hunt. It’s filled with unapologetic villains battling it out to be in charge and found families.

I feel like fans of SMB are in for a huge treat and if you’re new to her like me you’re going to want more.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 (but wow when it did happen)
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(only because I was missing plot points from previous books)
Tropes:
- pirates
- found family
- shifters
- spice
- taking care of his/her wounds
- one bed
- treasure hunt
- secrets
- enemies to lovers

Returning to the pirate’s life after the wall between Earth and the Otherworld fell, Croygen vows to reclaim his place as the Pirate King and command the seas again. Time and absence have dimmed his once feared and infamous name, but the sea calls to him…and the female pirate challenging him will soon find out who the true ruler of the tides is.

“You tell everyone you know that the Silver Tongue Devil is back.”

Fearsome, beautiful, ruthless and out for revenge, Katrina’s mission is to become the most infamous and feared pirate there ever was, and to find and kill the man who betrayed her…the man she once revered, once loved…the pirate who rivals her claim to the pirate crown…The Silver Tongue Devil.

“Not only will I find him…I will Kill Croygen.”

Silver Tongue Devil is an action packed, fast paced, absolutely magical experience. It can be read as a standalone, but does tie into the Darkness, Collector and Lightness Series, as well as Savage Lands. No need to fret if you haven’t read any of these series though, go ahead and jump in…you’ll be fine and you will not regret it!

The dystopian swashbuckling pirate vibe was exactly what I wanted, with enemies to lovers, one bed, and the delectable chemistry between Croygen and Kat…it’s absolute perfection. Did I mention the spice…oh yeah, I absolutely loved the slow burn, tension filled steam that explodes with scorching intensity!

Croygen and Katrina’s story is amazing, deep, complicated and a bit morally grey. The dynamic between Croygen and Katrina is a constant tug between loyalty, betrayal, revenge and absolution. The thing I love about Stacey’s writing is that she makes you fall in love with not only the main characters, but also the supporting characters as well, building a spectacular world full of multifaceted beings. Silver Tongue Devil is an action packed read with an adorable little surprise tucked in. I loved the nods to other parts of the universe…especially Savage Lands. This was a wonderful book, that had me engaged from page one.

Silver Tongue Devil is Book 1 in the Devil in the Deep Blue Sea series. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so hold on tight! I cannot wait for Book 2!!!!!

4/5 stars Thank you to the author and next step PR for the early review copy!

Let me start out by saying: I enjoyed this book a lot, but I likely would've enjoyed it even more, had I read the Collector series first. However, I still loved this one, and the hints that happened previously could still keep up.

I loved Croygen and Katrina, their chemistry, and their clashing. It was also really cool the number of Easter eggs I caught onto from Savage Lands. And I'm loving how interconnected everything seems to be in this world.

We all know I read this for the pirates and stayed for the romance.

This book was absolute gripping! I couldn’t put it down! Katrina and Croygen and their back stories were so detailed and enthralling and the insertion of comedy in the mix, as well as the fae made it a phenomenal book!

As it often happens: 2 stars only because I didn't actively hate it.

The most important thing is that the writing was just plain bad and super cheesy. That one of the most formidable pirates in the book goes by the name Puss in Boots should tell you plenty (it's supposed to have started out ironically, but it is used very much unironically throughout the book and managed to ruin plenty a scene but making it laughable).

Also, I was very confused by the constant name-dropping and remarks about some past events up to the point where I knew for sure that there are interconnected series and these characters are coming from other books. I looked it up on the author's own TikTok and she claims each series, aside from one, can be used as the starting point, including the one I started with, but the truth is, while the particular story seems to somewhat work even just within this duology, the world-building is a disaster, which makes me believe the other series are in fact a prerequisite. Not to mention that all the Lexie/Zoey crap was so annoying - I don't know who those people are and I really, really don't care. Might have felt differently if I'd read all those Darkness/Lightness/Collector series.

As it stands, I was planning on buying Savage Lands, completely independently from the Devil in the Deep Blue Sea duology, but I got this from The Bookish Box and decided to give it a try before Savage Lands, and now I'm very happy I didn't spend that money, and will not be doing so in the future.

DNF so not rating.

I got a decent way into this, but I just didn't like anything about either of the main characters.

I loved the Bad Lands series, but I had this same problem with another of the author's series that I read, and then DNF, with just disliking both the main characters! So maybe this is a case of 'it's not you, it's me'.

I love dark, morally flawed characters in my books, so it's not that they're not 'good guys', I just found them a bit obnoxious. It's hard to describe what my issue was, really!

So much better than I was expecting. I do think it would have been better if I had read the series before this. There’s a timeline in the beginning that mentions the collector series. I think this was some kind of spin off from that bigger story. A couple things didn’t make sense but I got the idea enough to follow along. I could have used a little less page time from the Sprite Monkey but other than that it was surprisingly good. It’s an interesting story, it’s spicy, it’s easy, worth a read if you like pirate stuff.

brother, eugh🥴 giving this 2 stars is my charitable act of the week.

writing about creatures who live thousands of years and still making the FMC go through puberty (that the MMC references many times over) at 12/14 (idr which, already blocking this travesty from my memory) is a highly 🤨 sus 🤨 choice 🤨

AB? PIB? what is this??? is even writing out characters’ names too much work???

to be digestible/considered a book at all, this would need, at a minimum:
• a mf’n editor
• a full overhaul that doesn’t involve referencing the plot of another series ad nauseam
• a…plot?
• a sensitivity reader (now i’m really shooting for the moon)

this was under 300 pages and YET it still could be cut to bits and have the same effect…maybe 25 pages, max. crimes were committed here, and none of them were fun.

2.5 stars rounded up - to be generous.

Listen, I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought this book secondhand. I didn't buy it for the content, I bought it because it is a gorgeous special edition, and just knowing it was about pirates was enough for me. But this....uh.....yeah, I had to read it eventually.

First, I have never read anything by this author before in my life. From what I gather, all her series are interwoven within the same universe. Despite this being the "first" in a series, there were endless references to other characters and other stories in different books, so I felt like I was at a disadvantage because I got none of the references the characters were making. They are all hundreds of years old and talked about stories as if we (the reader) should remember them just from their quick synopsis.

Second - the smut. Seriously. There is some form of sex or sexual feelings on every other page of this book. I couldn't even tell you what the main plot was supposed to be, but I could somehow describe exactly what the girl thought when she saw his coat flicker in the wind at 8pm on a Saturday afternoon. They are supposed to be enemies but have this undeniable pull from the very start, and they want to have sex from the first time they're on page together.

There is a sex scene, and it is quite graphic, a little questionable, and very steamy. There is also a scene where it's basically an orgy, but the characters don't have sex in that one. Then there is a lot of steamy kisses and graphic depictions of "oh I want her/him to do this to me."

Third - pedophilia ? Beastiality ?? This book made me question things. Even though the characters are hundreds of years old, Croygen repeatedly mentions how he knew her as a kid, and how he didn't think of her like that back then, and how she's "changed" since then. Once or twice would be fine, whatever, age gap romances are a thing, but it was the fact that he keeps mentioning it that just rubbed a little wrong.

Beastiality.....she is a magic cat shifter. When she has heightened feelings, she starts shifting - and can't always stop it. She also subconsciously purrs when she is happy....and yes these play into the story at weird times. It feels a little like crossing the line? If that's your thing, no judgement, but it is definitely not mine.

All in all, I knew what I was getting myself into - I am here for a good time, not a long time. I didn't realize that the edition I got is both books one and two, but I am stopping here. I really don't think I need more of these people in my life. The main quest does not even matter, the story is primarily about two people that want to sex each other out of existence. It barely even feels piratey at times. I am in the wrong here, I knew this book wouldn't be for me, but man if I didn't give it a try.

Well Croygen can certainly shiver my timbers anytime. Our favorite broody pirate is BACK 🫶🏻

If you’re a major SMB fan then you already know what’s up but if not, here’s the deal:

Silver Tongued Devil is the first book in a new series set within a larger book verse. They’re 3-series with events preceding this book (The Darkness Series, The Collector Series and The Lightness Series) and 1 series after (The Savage Lands Series) - all are COMPLETE

Each series can be read individually, but I HIGHLY recommend reading them all since there is a lot of plot and character cross over 🧐

Now back to my grumpy little pirate. Was this book great or am I blinded by nostalgia? Eh who cares. I gobbled this up like a woman stranded at sea who hasn’t seen fresh water in months.

We’ve got a heart broken but ruthless fae pirate determined to get his title back as king of the seas and a feral cat shifter out for revenge against him. She climbed her way top of the pirate hierarchy and she plans to stay there 💅🏼

What happens when their forced together on one ship and have no choice but to work together toward a common goal?

✨Magic✨Jk the correct answer is tension, angst and drama.

We’ve got all the classic SMB elements: witty banter, a host of fun supporting characters, a funny and deranged creature (SPRIG🥹), loads of sexual tension and plenty of action.

This was given to me as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Really really enjoyed this!
I’ve read the savage lands series but none of Stacey’s other work so didn’t know what to expect with this. It was fun, fast pace, and full of tension and angst just like that series.

It’s quite similar in terms of dynamic, so if you like Brexley and Warwick and their push and pull aggression, you’ll like this. It’s a strong enemies to lovers.

The pirate and at sea theme combined with fae and an urban/modern world was my favourite thing. Because I’ve read her other series and it’s set in the same world, it’s hard to comment on the world building in this, but I did absolutely love the piracy backstories in it and the training elements.

I also enjoyed the new creatures I’d not seen before - cat shifters and monkey sprite??? So original!

As always the spice scenes were insanely good and there was a surprising amount in a first book!

I do think I’d have enjoyed this even more if I’d read one of Stacey’s other series beforehand, not just savage lands and I would recommend looking up reading orders before reading as there’s character crossover and I did feel like I was missing out on bits due to that.

Thank you for the ARC, look forward to book 2 💗

There’s age gap and then there is… this.

1.5/5⭐️
2.5/5🌶️

This book was not for me and I think I knew this pretty early on with the fact that the FMC grew up around the MMC. Not only was it clear but the characters talked multiple times about how wrong it was and it was constantly referenced which just made me uncomfortable. And it wasn’t just the FMC/MMC it was the MMC with another love interest as well and it wasn’t just too much for me.

I think the overall plot would have been fun and interesting. The idea of rival pirates and a search for a mythical treasure. There were parts where the plot and the world building shone through but were quickly overshadowed again by the romance plot.

The real world references to urban tales of pirates and a constant reference to other books made it hard to truly understand this book as a separate duology. Puss in Boots, Black Beard, Davey Jones Locker etc. I just couldn’t get behind it.

As much as it bugs me not to finish I won’t be continuing these books.

Considering I was going into this expecting something really bad, I’m actually pleasantly surprised I’m rating this one 3 stars. The bad mainly stems from me being 65% into the book before I realized there’s 3 whole series before this book that would probably be beneficial in understanding the confusing world building and the constant references to characters I’ve never been introduced to. HAD I read those before this duology, I probably would have loved this one. But I also just don’t think I’m really into fae pirate shifters.. The good and what surprised me most was there was much more plot than I expected and while some parts were cringy, the plot is actually decent. Let’s just hope the Will Turner copycat, Killian, shows back up in book 2. Bonus if he becomes a villain 😉

What a great spicy fantasy romance! Silver Tongue Devil was full of adventure and shifting Fae pirates! I absolutely loved the characters in this book and this had me invested in the story. Even though there was a lot of spice, there was still an adventurous and dynamic plot which is what kept my attention. This one definitely left off on a cliffhanger, so be prepared for the need to go grab book two!
