August Watson specialises in all things spooky and weird; it’s his niche in the P.I. market, but this case might just be a little too far into left field even for him.
But how can he turn down a family in distress? Too terrified to return to their home and convinced their little girl has been possessed by a demonic entity, they beg for his help.
He’s faced his past. He’s faced his demons. Now it’s time he faced the truth.
Get ready for your spine to shudder, August Watson has a case to crack.
A product of Small Town, California, Alex Gates is a loving husband, skilled educator, true Gryffindor, dragon-slayer, wizard of the highest order, defender of the realm, Cowboys fan, and connoisseur of cheap beer. He spent four years at California State University, Sacramento studying literature, watching football, and day drinking before obtaining a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Southern California.
What a twist!! This one was twisted without bodies dropping !! Alina is growing up and coming into her own as an investigator, Fred needs to be utilized more than just fodder for bodily function jokes,
Fifty percent of this was very difficult to read as terrible things were happening and it seemed like it would never stop. I felt I was being beat up. In the original Blue Moon series the bad stuff is just summarized by the client and we need to live through very little with lots of comic relief from the dogs and characters. The characters aren’t as engaging as Tempest, Amanda, Patience and Big Ben. Or as engaging as in the Appalachian series which seem gentler. I really only kept reading because it was Steve Higgs’ Blue Moon Investigation.
This one was a bit dark and scary! There, of course, wasn't much humor in the scary parts, but Alex and Steve made up for it elsewhere. As a Realtor, I was in a house with a client after having difficulty unlocking the door - which afterwards, I wondered if it was a pre-warning. I quietly sucked up the creepiness, not saying a word, until the client admitted the house gave her the creeps. We skedaddled asap. I was with Kathleen on this one.
Awesome gripping thriller, Doug dreams of a grand family home for him his wife Kathy and her daughter Emily . He talks his wife into looking at a fixer upper…, this is where the term differs for each of them as all she sees is good money thrown after bad and she has a bad feeling about that house….There’s lots happening from the move in day lots of occurrences that cannot be explained and with nowhere else to turn after the church and father Hartke can help no longer he’s forced to hire demonologists before begging Bluemoon to help…He’s destitute and owes a crime boss big time bucks . August takes on the case and Fred doesn’t thank him for it , he’s also still reeling from the LARP against Alina ,he isn’t up to facing ghosts too …. very good backgrounding , characters are good with the odd skit of humour , the whole story is well described leading to a compelling read. I read an advance copy of this book and my review is my own words and voluntary
If you haven’t read any of the blue moon books, start at the beginning of the series But this book is just as good as the others. These characters have heartfelt relationships while being ornery and sarcastic with one another. The mysteries in this book are fun. I had part of it figured out but not all and that is the best mystery in my opinion. I don’t want a book to make me feel stupid but I don’t want the mystery so simple I get bored, having worked it all out with several chapters remaining. There are lighthearted moments packed in between edge-of-your-seat drama. Read it. It’s worth it.
Possession Obsession-Blue Moon Sacramento Book 6 by Alex Gates and Steve Higgs is great. There are so many twists and turns in this story that you might get whiplash! The characters are very true-to-life, even at their most nefarious. And best of all, the varied situations that August finds himself in are just fun to read. After all, working for yourself can be exhausting, but the situations can be humorous in the retelling. So, a haunted house that isn’t, or is it? LARPing? A sick young girl. It all adds up to a wild ride that you do not want to miss.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I thought it was really clever. I also read the book rather than listening to it on Audible. I’m not sure if it’s available as an audiobook anyway, but the narrator did the absolute worst voices for all of the characters and I couldn’t like any of them. I wanted to hear the story, but I could not stand the voice as he did, especially for Elena. He made her such an incredibly unlikable character because she just sounded like such an obnoxious little jerk. When you read the book, she is just a much better character.
August has a new case, although it was one he reluctantly took. A guy buys an old run-down house to fix up and runs into ghostly happenings. An entire kitchen is ransacked, everything broken. His stepdaughter seems possessed, and the guy is at his wits' end. He can't pay, so August isn't keen to tackle this one but works out a trade. In the meantime, Alina is on her own 'case' of sorts. It was a good book, interesting happenings, and I didn't figure the whole thing out, so that was awesome.
I have loved the blue moon investigations from the beginning. The stories are always interesting with a lot of twists. The characters are full of fun. I am always left wanting to immediately read the next book. This one had a lot of twists and turns and little side mysteries. It was longer than the normal book in the series or seemed to be, but I enjoyed it. Would like to read more with the original cast of characters too.
I've enjoyed this series even more than the original Blue Moon series because the protagonist is more human/flawed than his UK counterpart. Until this one. There was little to no character development, the plots were lifted straight out of pop culture, and the writing of the haunting section was just bad - plot holes, typos, and an obviously inconsistent timeline. Here's hoping this was just a one-off for this duo.
This story wasn't the quality I am used to from Higgs. Not bad but it lost my interest a couple of times. Not used to that in all my previous reading of his work. I do realize this is co-authored with Alex Gates but so were the first 4 in the series. I think the daily narratives that departed from the main characters might have been the problem. Nevertheless... A 4-star instead of 5.
A review kept me from reading this for a while, but I'm glad I finally did. Yes, the first half of the book is difficult to read, but it keeps with the tone of the other Sacramento books. The unexpected twist at the end made it all worth it. We have a new comic relief character, and I'm enjoying August appreciating his life more. Great job, Alex and Steve. Keep them coming!
More than half the book is seeing up the backstory for the investigation. This one revisits a haunted house but with demonic possession as a bonus. Foreshadowing allows sleuths to determine the occult of pedestrian mysteries. The best part as always is the dialogue between the characters.
Unlike the previous books in the various Blue Moon series, most of this book was from the viewpoint of the victim of the "supernatural" event. I found that extremely boring to the point of skipping through the pages until I got to the actual Sacramento team. From there the book was fine, but what a waste of good pages!
A tough case for sure! This case has all the earmarks of an actual possession. How on earth can it be anything else? This one had me reading and thinking on all cylinders. A fascinating story from start to finish! Couldn't put it down!
I am a fan of Steve Higgs books, but this isn't a favorite. I read all my books even when I was not totally engaged in case I changed my opinion. It might be someone else's.
I love a good book at this was a good book, a couple of plots running along side each other, characters are brilliant and slot in together giving a few laughs along the way a well earned 5 stars
I did not think I would like it as much as the original Blue Moon series. I do! The characters mesh wonderfully and the story lines and arcs are just perfect!
Just a suggestion hire a new person to check your writing, lots of errors lol. LOVE YOUR BOOKS. If you decide you need help I'm a 62 year old woman, could stand something to do!
