Shadow Charms By Nellie H. Steele This book takes off where book one ended. This becomes a very long assignment for Paige and her partner, the teacup size dragon. They end up traveling around the world and encountering multiple dangers. It's not as good as book #1, but it's still very good!
I received a free copy from the author through Booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it.
Shadow Charms is the second book in the Shelving Magic series and follows main character Paige and her friend and work partner Dewey, a teacup dragon. I had a few struggles with the first book and I felt book 2 was a lot better in some ways, the pacing felt better and I enjoyed the adventures vibe and magical trouble they got in.
Just like with book 1 I thought the second half of this book was better, but that's probably as I didn't really enjoy the plot line about the beast wound Paige had and how they fix it. It even got a bit gory for me in a few places as the wound got worse. There were some scenes I didn't really care for and a few times the plot and twists feel a bit ridiculous, but most of the time I thought the twists and turns the plot took were fun and I liked seeing what new problems they run in now.
The second half focuses more on their new quest to find the wand of division as well as magical items that make it more powerful. And I really enjoyed that part. There is lots of adventure, dangerous situations, magical creatures and it was just a lot of fun to see how Paige and Dewey handled it all.
I am glad Paige's clumsiness wasn't as overdone in this book. It's still part of her personality, but in a more subtle way. I liked seeing how she interacted with Dewey and seeing the two of them work together. Their friendship has deepened and I like their banter as well as how they always have each others back. They really have to work together to solve the situations they get in.
To summarize: I enjoyed this second book in the series, but I enjoyed the second half more than the first half. The first half deals a bit more with Paige's wound and how to cure it and I didn't enjoy that plot as much as the second half where they have to find the wand of division and the artifacts that make it stronger. This book can be a bit hit or miss for me at times, with some scenes being really fun and others feeling a bit too much or a bit ridiculous. I liked how Paige's clumsiness felt more part of her personality and was more tones down that in book 1. I liked Paige's friendship with Dewey, they have some fun banter and I like how they have each other's back. The book has a nice light and fun atmosphere with plenty of adventure. I really like the vibe of this series so far and I look forward to the third book.
First off — it’s great to have a librarian named Paige! Second — this book is non-stop action from the first page to the last! While I haven’t read the first book it sounds as if this starts right up where the first book ended. Paige is a librarian who has learned she is magical and is getting a late introduction to the magical world. For Paige, magic causes as many issues as it solves. Paige and her dragon sidekick, Dewey, are on a mission to save the world from the baddies trying to find the Wand of Division. She learns a lot about the different species of magical creatures and travels all over the world trying to get to all the pieces first. Paige also learns more about her mysterious mother during this quest.
This book is well written and a real gallop to the end (for now).
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A perfect blend of hair raising and hairbrained adventure. A funtastic, edge of your seat ride with no less than the end of the world and u employment at stake. Paige and Dewey are at it again. This time trying to cure Paige, escape the notice of the beast who marked her, find a mythical wand that may or may not be real and could destroy the world if found and combined with a couple other artifacts. Jet setting across the globe and into other realms these two librarians are on a mission, failure is not an option. Fun, funny, full of twists, action and plenty of the supernatural this is a can’t miss read!.

I just can’t get enough of these characters! It is nonstop from the first to the last page. Both books I have read in one sitting, and I do not regret, ignoring my household chores or losing sleep over it. This is the perfect combo of The Librarian and Warehouse 13 but sooo much more! I love Paige so much and I can’t wait to dive into the third book!
This is book two of the series. There's still plenty of non-stop action although I did occasionally get thrown out of the story by incongruities. Getting sucked into a book of twisted fairy tales and dealing with the silly two-dimensional inhabitants of the book was an interesting twist. I did enjoy the story, and the main quest was resolved satisfactorily. along with an issue from the previous book. Still recommended as a fun read. The next book in the series isn't out yet; I haven't decided whether I'll buy it.
The adventures that Paige and Dewey go on are dangerous, hilariously funny and scary as heck. Their snark with each other just makes them more love-able. However, Paige is in danger as the beast’s mark on her can kill her and they need to find a way to help her because the beast is still hunting her. I love the fact that Dewey and Paige love pizza and breadsticks and raisinettes, popcorn and twizzlers. They are a few of my favorite things too. Although, I don’t eat pizza with toppings unless is is extra cheeese, cheddar and bacon because almost everything is better with bacon! Lol
Omg the trouble that Dickens, Paige’s cat gets into in this book! I laughed and squealed a lot over him in this book. There are a lot of reveals in this book too. My fave is that because Paige is in danger, Dewey does something that is so sweet I just wanted to squishie hug him to death! Lol
Totally crazy stuff happens in this book too. *shakes head and lol* You gotta read it to believe it. I think I laughed even more in this book. Dragons, pixies and many other supernaturals show up in this book. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the next book. I’m going to go after this author’s other works as soon as I can, muah ha. Lol, too much fun! If the other books are half as funny as the first book in this series, they are worth reading.

This series is such a silly, fun one and I love it! This second book was just as good as the first one, although it seemed a lot more chaotic at times.
There were two story arcs in this one - trying to cure Paige of the beast mark and retrieve several items which if they fall into the wrong hands could destroy the world as we know it. Paige and Dewey were constantly jumping from crisis to crisis all over the world trying to get everything before those pesky pixies, but nothing was ever easy for them. More supernatural and magical creatures kept trying to bar their way and some funny incidents occurred because of who they met. How they didn't collapse from sheer exhaustion baffles me as I felt shattered just reading about it all!
I loved the determination of both Paige and Dewey - they were relentless in their quests, never wanting to give up on their end goal or on each other. They definitely make a great team, both working on their strengths to support each other. Paige is still quite clueless when it comes to the magical world and the beings in it, but she's learning and hopefully that will continue into the next book, which I can't wait to read!
I received an ARC copy of this book through BookSprout, but this review is my own honest one.
If you like light-hearted, fun, quick reads with amusing characters, then this series is for you.
I am very much enjoying this light fun series, especially the interaction between Paige and Dewey. They are a good team, as they work on how they can support and work with each other, getting stronger together.
Paige is still learning about the magical world which means we learn sametime as she does, so not info dumped.
I do like they style of writting and i love the characters, so awaiting the next book in the series :)

A generous three stars, as it was not for me, but I think some readers may enjoy it. I definitely think it would be better marketed for young readers. It felt more like a series of short stories strung together than a cohesive plot. Technically it can be read without reading the first, but I did feel left out on some continuing story lines.
One of my biggest issues was the writing style. Everything was overly descriptive to the point of not making sense. How does someone thump and shuffle at the same time? “…thumping feet shuffled across the floor again.” That scene continued with the character waddling, and feet slapping. It was too much. I highlighted numerous instances of overly descriptive sentences that could have made the point more succinctly. Step away from the thesaurus! On the other hand stop having Paige wrinkle her nose constantly. Let her snarl or look in disgust. Some things were heavy on inappropriate synonyms, while others were repeated too often. It needs serious editing.
If it had been edited down and had more focus on one primary plot, it would have held my interest more. Dewey the dragon was fun and the premise could be good. It’s just that I’ve read other books that I liked much better that had a librarian and a dragon. 😉 If you don’t mind heavily descriptive writing and a very loose plot, this is entertaining fluff, kind of like an action movie.
I received a free copy for voluntary review. My opinion is purely my own.
Loved it! Paige and Dewey are on another magical quest all the while Paige & Dewey are trying to find a cure for the beast mark. Will they find a cure? Or will Paige die in a few months? Dewey is working super hard to find a cure.
Paige's job never ends and she has been requested this time to find the "Wand of Division" that could potentially ruin the world. This time she is fighting screaming pixies and other paranormal characters. Paige is on a rollercoaster of an adventure and kicking butt. The comical banter between Paige and Dewey isn't like the first book but I think the characters are growing fond of each other and Dewey is worried about Paige. I miss the banter they had hopefully the author will bring the snarky banter back in the next book.
Shadow Charms left me on the edge of my seat. Well written and kept me reading from the first page until the end. Did I say I loved it? Well, I did!
Highly recommend if you like paranormal stories

Shadow Lord s Book 2 in Shelving Magic by Nellie H Steele. If you enjoy exciting fantasy with great characters and tons of action… not to mention monsters… Shadow Lord us the book for you. Paige and the tea cup dragon, Dewey, are back to defend the Earth from magical objects and monsters. Daylight walking Vampires, Shrieking Pixies, Paige has an infection that just might kill her and there is a dangerous wand that must be found. Our heroes are up to the task… even Dickens has a problem! Book 3, Shadow Lord, can't come soon enough. I think this series is fabulous. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Paige Turner and Dewey Decimael are off on another adventure to retrieve a magical wand, Holigramium and a magical crystal in order to save the world. What could possibly go wrong?
This is a wonderful story in which we meet some creatures known from legend, such as a yeti and pixies who are not all as nice as you might think.
I love that the descriptions of places and characters are so vivid.
I’m looking forward to the third book in this magical series.
I must say I liked it more than the first- becouse Paige evolved from the first story. And she seem more the adventurous and fearless character she must be in order to protectghe world.

This is my second outing with Paige and Dewey. It is as fun and mad as the first book, which was just great.
This story is definatly in at least tree threads, but they work very well together to make this an excellent read.
There is the main story about the challenge for this book, tracking down a dangerous wand, which does not truly start for a number of chapters. Then there is the concluding elements that are following up on Paiges back injury and linking events from the first book. As well as this there is the continuation of the thread that will probably run throughout the series, who is the monster, who is the man upstairs and what are the noises?
This book carries on the theme of being very slapstick. The heroes continue to fall into good luck and tough situations, but are very pragmatic about the outcomes of these. Dewey is a kind of fair weather hero who is brave till a situation nearly bites him on the bum, but boy, can he backtrack! A loveable rougue.
Paige is a charming and truly lovable heroine who like the mounties, always gets her man. But the twists and turns, the skids and fun bad luck really play on her role in a truly fun way.
You really want her to succeed but you may often wonder how she will get out of this one! She is very much like Harrison Ford in his tongue in cheak roles in Indiana Jones and Star Wars. Lots of wanting the right things but almost comical misfortune and lucky breaks.
I am so glad I carried on in this series and truly love the book, the charecters and Nellie's style. Cant wait to read the next step in this saga and cannot encourage you enough to pick up a copy for yourselves.
One comment to add, I have seen that a number of readers found a librarian with the name Paige was really funny, but have not seen anyone pick up on the Tea Cup dragons name - Dewey Decimal. It is the name of the system that libraries use to catalogue boos. This too was so witty a name choice.

What a delight this series is! Such fun! Now that Paige is firmly entrenched in her new job as a librarian, she and her sidekick, a dragon called Dewey, are tasked to track down rare artifacts and bring them back to the "safety" of the library. But it's not without it's dangers, no siree, this is an adventure filled, well, adventure, giving off major Indiana Jones vibes. They go globe trotting, quite literally, from one end of the world to the next, Egypt, Bulgaria, even Russia and encounter all sorts of magical beings, from Pixies to trolls to cursed princes to Vampires, yep, the whole bang shoot! Not only that, it was almost as if they had fallen into an Alice like fairytale, without the Mad Hatter and tea party, but a real fantasy world which proves to be rather dangerous. I really enjoyed the mystery, which is yet to crystalise, surrounding Devon, Paige's hot neighbour. A neighbour Dewey is very suspicious of but hotness rules for Paige. I mean, Devon is sweet and pleasant and affable, right? Hmmm, let's see...
I loved the affection and protectiveness Dewey has for Paige, he's going all out to find the cure for her wound, a wound inflicted by a monster, a wound that is slowly killing Paige. And there's the mystery of Paige's mom, another puzzle to put together, although, they do seem to be making some headway. I'm really intrigued to discover the truth. So our bumbling, klutzy, very unlikely librarian had grown in leaps and bounds. No longer the self conscious, no confidence, insecure young lady, she shows she has mettle, clumsily, but still. It's so easy to picture her, the author has done a superb job with her wonderful descriptive writing. I enjoyed the easy flow of the storytelling, the snorts of laughter that burst out of me and I definitely enjoyed all the "high" adventure. I felt as if I was in a candy store, surrounded by so many goodies, delighting in visual display. Great plot, great pace, but most importantly, great fun! I'm really looking forward to the next chapter
Shadow Charms is the follow-up to Nellie Steele's Shadow Beasts. The second book in the Shelving Magic was a fun and entertaining read.
Paige Turner is getting used to her job as a Librarian. She's slowly figuring things out about the magical world and how things work at the library. She's become a lot braver too. Where before Dewey would have to force her to get over fear to solve an issue, Paige is now jumping in.
I love Paige's and Dewey's friendship, they are getting closer and becoming true friends with movie nights and coming to each other's rescue. The mark of true friendship is when they have weird conversations. Paige and Dewey have the weirdest conversations, for example, it went from what trolls want out of life to metallic crayons... the same conversation. Plus you know, Dewey rags on Paige constantly now. Like dang. It's great.
This is an adventure book rather than romance and Paige and Dewey get into some wild situations. They have another case dealing with pixies, while in the middle of trying to cure Paige of her beast mark and having to do things simultaneously. There are a lot of moving pieces. Somehow a literal fairytale gets in the mix with a cursed prince, trolls and their bridge, and a quest for a magical ingredient. The pair go on a storybook adventure which is more dangerous than it sounds. Then there was the mine in Russia, a tomb in Egypt, and a cave called Mouth of Hell in Bulgaria. It was exciting, giving off Indiana Jones vibes but laced with humor.
Shadow Charms was a great read, I highly enjoy the adventures that Paige and Dewey go on. This is an adorably quirky little series. I still have questions about Paige's neighbor Devon, I'm suspicious of him and you would be too if you read the prequel. I'm looking forward to the next adventure in the third book, Shadow Lord.
Shadow Charms is the second book in the Shelving Magic series by Nellie H. Steele. The is a young adult fantasy that is quick paced and full of charming characters. We first met Paige and Dewey in Shadow Beasts after Paige becomes the librarian at the library where Dewey lives.
In this installment, Paige and Dewey are once again on a new adventure, which turns out to be about 5 different adventures as they are chased by a vampire, finding a cure for Dickens, trying to heal Paige's would, being swept away to a fairytale land, and finally getting back on track to find the magical items as tasked by the library. This is a fun filled adventure that strengthens the friendship of Paige and Dewey. Now that they have solved their second case, they are moving on the try to unravel the mystery of Paige's mother.
This is a good story, but sometimes tends to be overly descriptive without adding to the story line. For instance, when they were going to the SmartMart, there was so much detail about them stopping to just pick up a few things. I honestly kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing did, so I wasn't really sure of the purpose of dragging that scene out so much in the book. There were a few different instances of this throughout the first half of the book. Overall, it was a well written book but could have definitely been about 100 pages shorter.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. More adventures coming your way with this one. Paige and her trusty coworker, Dewey, are fresh off their last job. Ready to take a little time for themselves and try to figure out how to rid Paige of her mark. Unfortunately it is getting worse and becoming a priority despite everything else they have going on.
The vampire is still after Paige but thanks to the talisman, he is unable to find her. In the search of an ingredient Dewey needs to create a potion that will cure Paige, the two end up in a book as cartoon characters. This adventure is a complete offshoot of what these two actually need to do. They have to find a wand that could end the world if it gets into the wrong hands. On top of that, though the library was specifically requested for this job, it maybe closed for good if they don’t recover this wand. What?!?!?
Paige is still the same klutz that we fell in love with. Dewey is still a know-it-all that is immensely grateful to finally be able to explore beyond the library. This team does things that have not been done since Paige’s mother was the librarian. Let’s see if these two can succeed in keeping the library funded and save the world from things humans have no idea about.
Okay, I'm fully adjusted to the feel of these books now. The first one wasn't what I expected, but now that I know what the author was going for, this series is awesome!! (It was awesome before, I just took book 1 a little too seriously that made me dislike some things.)
Poor Paige, SO much happens to her in this book I could hardly catch my breath! It wasn't even every chapter that was keeping me on my toes, it was EVERY PAGE. I don't know if I've read such a breathtakingly fast-paced book before (except maybe by one author in another genre that we do not speak of here lol).
This book is highly imaginative, and the series a refreshing break from ones that maybe take themselves too seriously. It's a fun adventure with snarky characters and situations you won't see anywhere else. Like getting sucked into a book and having to live through its twisted tales to get the ingredient you're looking for and get back out... or having vampire parasites growing from the scratch on your back... or breaking into a recently-discovered tomb in Egypt.
Such a fun, captivating, edge-of-your-seat series! I highly recommend it!.

This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Paige Turner is a librarian. Picture of the TV show librarians. However in this world there are a number of libraries around the world and each has a librarian and an assistant. These librarians are typically human with extraordinary thinking skills and other abilities to help them get the job done. They deal in a paranormal world full of all kinds of paranormal creatures that the rest of the world know nothing about. They deal with artifacts mundane as well as supernatural they can cause issues in the wrong hands around the world. They seek them out and then they archive them in a protected space within these libraries. This is about the particular one that works at along with her partner decimal a miniature dragon they go out and hunt down these threats. Each team usually works alone and deals with most things they’re nearest to that particular library. When they get particularly good at something they start getting some of the different request sent specifically to that library. Read and follow the adventures of page Turner Dewey And the rest of her world.
After a wildly successful first mission, Paige and dragon assistant, Dewey are due for some downtime. Deciding on a pizza and movie night before diving back into research, they’re attacked by the beast that bit Paige. Finding a cure for her definitely moves up the priority ladder. Of course, things get complicated when Dickens the cat has an adverse reaction to eating something in the archives. Then a code purple comes in for a legendary artifact. This time, not only is the fate of the world on the line, but their jobs as well. Traveling the globe and hopping realms in a race against time and other supernatural creatures is all in a day’s work for these librarians.
Deftly switching between sidesplitting comedy and edge of your seat action, Nellie Steele has crafted another compelling adventure in the Shelving Magic series. Ricocheting from one calamity to the next, klutzy Paige and her snarky sidekick will have you turning pages and cheering them on. I can’t wait to see what’s next for our heroes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The story had just the right amount of tension to keep you on edge. Paige's life is undergoing a lot of change. She has to deal with the possibility that those black parasites will kill her. Additionally, she has to search for magical objects that have the power to end the world. It's a race against time to get them before it's too late.
It is truly the right amount of Indiana Jones, The Librarian, and Alice in Wonderland combined. Nothing is too weird in the world of magic. Additionally, accidents can occur because Paige is unfamiliar with many of the magical powders and charms. It is a magical world where your imagination can roam free.
I really like the character Paige, even though Paige is a klutz, she manages to accomplish things in her own special way. With a little help from a teacup dragon.
I feel like I need to explain my star ratings. Three stars means this book did exactly what I expected. I was amused and entertained. Did it change my world view? No, but I enjoyed it.
This is the second (?) book in a series and seems to pick up right where the first book ended. While as a rule I don't always like the infodump chapter I could have used one here.
I'm not sure if it is intended to be middle grade, but it reads like middle grade.
Paige Turner and her dragon companion, Dewey Decimal are on the hunt for a magical item all while trying to cure a curse from werewolf bite.
I felt like the side quests took up a lot of time.
Overall not a bad read and I would read the first one if it fell into my hands.

Another challenging mission with world-ending consequences. Oh, and a curse that is slowing killing our heroine. Seems the new job is going to be all kinds of laughs.
This is book two of the series, but it does pretty well as a standalone. All the essential parts are explained early on.
This is a urban fantasy story with a cozy mystery approach. The story is well written and easy to read, but not at all easy to put down. The characters are likeable and engaging right from the start so you quickly get drawn into the story. The plot moves at a good pace with lots of twists and turns to keep things moving. Overall, I found it to be a great addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

Paige Turner and her Dragon partner Dewey Decimal are once again on the hunt for artifacts for the Shadow Harbour Library...they have to get to them before the shrieking Pixies do or it will be the end of the world as they know it. Paige has been marked by a Vampire and now has Vampiric worms under her skin so they are also trying to find a cure for those Dewey comes up with one but they need ingredients not found at the Library or in any pharmacy. The bark of the Witch Lock Tree is only found in a twisted fairy tale book and when they go there Paige gets thrown in jail until she agrees to marry the Prince with no little planning Dewey and Paige escape and return to their world and are off to Siberia, Egypt, and a few other places looking for crystals and potions a funny romp that makes me want more of this series
Shadow Charms Shelving Magic series by Nellie H. Steele
Shadow Charms is the charming continuation of Paige and Dewey’s action packed adventure story.
There is more globe trotting, lots more fantastical, and not-so, fantastical villains. There’s marriage proposals, jaunts through fictional fairytales and some nifty loopholes that’ll leave you scratching your head. There’s more than a few near misses and a hearty dose of Indiana Jones to appease the adventurers soul. What remains is this wonderful concoction between a very unlikely duo who value friendship and loyalty above all.
Shadow Charms was an enjoyable read, and a nice palate cleanse for those looking for something lighter and fast paced.
