In The Multi-Hyphen Life award-winning British author-podcaster Emma Gannon explains that it doesn't matter if you're a part-time PA with a blog, or an accountant who runs an online store in the evenings--whatever your ratio, whatever your mixture, we can all channel our own entrepreneurial spirit to live more fulfilled and financially healthy lives.
Technology allows us to work wherever, whenever, and enables us to design our own working lives. Forget the outdated stigma of "jack of all trades, master of none," because having many strings to your bow is essential to get ahead in the modern working world. We all have the skills necessary to work less and create more, and The Multi-Hyphen Life is the source of inspiration you need to help you navigate your way toward your own definition of success.
Emma Gannon is the Sunday Times bestselling author of eight books, including ‘A Year of Nothing‘ and ‘Olive’, her debut novel, which was nominated for the Dublin Literary Award. Her second novel, ‘Table for One’, published in 2025 with HarperCollins. Emma also runs the popular Substack newsletter, ‘The Hyphen’, which has thousands of paid subscribers. She also hosts creativity retreats all over the world and was a judge for the 2025 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction.
For those of us who tend to have a lot of ideas and projects pulling us in different directions, the book had some concrete advice for introducing ourselves (e.g. group your interests/work under a couple headlines), networking (e.g. focus on sharing content that engages and where there is a point rather than simply bragging; also focus on offline activities). Nothing revolutionary but still useful. 3.5 stars.
More of a how-to manual than I expected and rather tech-utopian about how easy it is to build a side-hustle/life as a freelancer. Really written for folks just starting to consider departing the corporate grind than those who are already freelancing and looking to evaluate what we really want/what’s working and what isn’t.
