She craves connection. He’s an emotional island. What will it take to bridge the gap?
Hope Fairmont despairs of ever finding ‘the one’. Burned one too many times, she buries her girlhood dreams of love to focus on her fashion career. Too bad the photographer she works with is insufferably arrogant. Even so, something in him calls to everything in her.
Ares Beckett learned early to be wary of people. And it’s a lesson that sank deep. But somehow the guileless, warm-hearted beauty burrows under his skin like a not altogether unwelcome sliver. Worse, she’s making him feel things that are dangerous.
She won’t settle for less than everything. And he’s afraid to open his heart.
We first met Hope in Lucky and Minty's story, since Hope and Lucky share an adorable toddler daughter, Brayleigh. The four of them have made their own sort of family, and Minty and Hope are as close as sisters. But let's face it, Minty is truly one in a million, and the chances of Hope finding a man as open and understanding about Hope's parenting situation are, well, one in a million.
Instead, Hope focuses on her job, despite having to deal with a misogynistic jerk of a departmental boss and a lot of traveling for the company. Hope's direct boss wants to give Hope more responsibilities, including overseeing several upcoming photo shoots, with the chance of a promotion on the horizon. The only problem? Ares, the photographer. He and Hope ran into each other at a hotel bar not long ago, and let's just say they got off on the wrong foot. But now she'll have to work side by side with him for the next six photo shoots.
Let me tell you, reader friend, this description barely scratches the surface. If you’ve read any of this gifted storyteller's masterful work, you know that her words are touched with magic and her writing is evocatively beautiful. This story is no different, but takes us even deeper into the emotional minefield.
We have a strong, smart shero at a crossroads in her life. She struggles to balance work and motherhood while coming to see her own upbringing and her parents' relationship in a new light. She has no time for romance, and yet Ares becomes part of the equation she's trying to solve.
Ares now, this guy is something else. I didn’t like him at all. Then I liked him and started relating to him, empathizing with him, and I found myself falling camera strap over lens for this wounded, misunderstood hero. I forgave his rough edges, embraced his broken heart, and cheered and celebrated the healing that made him the man Hope needed.
With quick wit and classic comedic timing, Hope and Ares made me laugh while I cried and cry while I laughed. I adore the elements of family – both Ares' loud, messy Greek family and Hope's found family stitched together through love. Yes, we have the typical third act breakup, but there's nothing typical when the time apart leads to healing, redemption, and a deeper, forever love.
A Devin Sloane romance is a timeless commentary on life's messiness and true love's endurance. Insightful, sagacious, and eternally relevant, her characters will stay with you long after the last page and touch your heart in profound ways. Her new release becomes my new favorite read, and this one holds a spot on my top five reads for this year. Angst lovers searching for all the feels, this is your next unforgettable romance read, so make sure you don’t miss it!
This is a spin-off from the Milltown series, book 3 in that introduced us to Hope; Lucky's baby mama, and this is the happily ever after for her. Hope has a really beautiful storyline that working mums will feel, that juggle between parenting and work, promotion and neglect. I thought the internal struggle Hope felt was wonderfully captured. Ares, the handsome Greek with a reputation as the hitman cos he gets in quick and doesn't stick around. I absolutely adored him, and I was so glad to have some mad Greek family back in the Devin world. Yiayia's are the best! Plenty of cuteness from Brayleigh, and the introduction of Sia was added adorableness! I love all of the extended family, on both sides, and the exploration of themes with both Hope's parents and Ares' dad. It really gave the story a rounded narrative without detracting from the main themes of love and healing. The epilogue jumps almost 10 years down the line, which is lovely to see, but I'd have loved to have seen a little more of the time just following the party too. I absolutely flew through this, as always with Devin's writing, and I can't wait for more!
It took me hours to write this review. I stopped and started over a dozen times, never happy with what I wrote. I want to write about Hope and her character but I can't. All I can think about is Ares.
I finished the book last night and I haven't stopped thinking about Ares and his struggle just to be. Scared of becoming his father if he let a woman into his life. Believing that he is not deserving of love and will be a burden on the people in his life. Afraid of letting down the most important person in his life that needs him the most because of the choice his father made when he was a child. And while his father did what he thought was right at the time, the impact it had on Ares' life was deeper than he knew.
I did love Hope. Her personality is fun, she has a huge heart and loves so deeply. If there's anyone deserving of a HEA, it's her.
The reason I loved Ares story so much is because men's mental health is never really talked about. To read about how he feels and views himself is gut-wrenching. How one person in his childhood changed the course of his entire life.
This has become my favourite Devin Sloane book. All because of Ares.
Omg. Angsty. Hot. Hilariously funny. All of these rolled into one! You won’t stop flipping the pages on this one! And you’ll love this opposites attract couple! This one left me hot and bothered AND giggling! Awesome job.
For me I was back and forth between a four star and a five star, there were parts that really pulled me in and at times I felt that it was a bit wordy and could have been edited down a little more.
Hope is co-parenting with her daughter’s dad and they have a great relationship where their daughter Brayleigh is first always. Hope has decided to give up on finding the one and concentrate on being a good mother and moving up in her career field.
Her career move has her butting heads not only with a mental dinosaur sleaze bag of a boss she also has to deal with the rude and sometimes abrupt photographer that she is a little too interested in despite herself.
Ares in the beginning for me (I transposed the last two letters in his name and that is what I mentally referred to him as) he was just a little bit much. As you started getting below his public persona and getting to know the very hurt little boy in the man’s body I began to understand him a lot better.
Their relationship started off very rocky and then sort of went into a slow burn. The awkwardness was sometimes cute other times perplexing. There was a bit of heat thrown in at times to keep your interest, otherwise I would have started flipping pages.
They are both carrying an enormous amount of baggage. Hope’s from being caught up in the roles that society has tried to foist on women and her mother seeming to want her to conform to that role.
Ares baggage came from abandonment from his father and the emotional abuse suffered at his step-mothers hand. Plus, he seemed to be a bit awkward when he didn’t have a camera in his hand. He was also single parenting his daughter Sia/Anastasia and was finding himself feeling a bit lost at times.
Hope’s almost light hearted way of handling Ares seemed to be what he needed. She would stand up to him when she needed to but for the most part just let him know that she would be there for him emotionally and that he could proceed at his own pace.
It was nice to get an epilogue to see how their life played out.
I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
All I can say is that I am so glad I met Ms. Sloane at the Romancing the Falls signing as I have fallen in love with her writing, characters and storylines. Sweet Everythings is a grumpy/sunshine, single parents, world-place romance that is very realistic and easy to get so involved in that you can't put it down. Ms. Sloane puts her heart and soul into her writing, which is evident in how you feel every emotion that the characters feel. Hope is a single mom but her relationship with her daughter's father is unusual and very interesting in how she became pregnant. She is strong-minded, knows what she wants and will go after it as long as it does not interfere with her daughter. Her family life, or should I say her relationship with her parents is not the best. Now she is thrown into a situation where she needs to deal with an arrogant, rude and frustrating photographer, Ares, however, he is sexy looking. Hope and Ares end up working together more and more since she was promoted. The hate-to-love relationship that happens between the two of them is funny at times but also you see the struggles they are both dealing with. Ares, also a single parent, also has a family life that has left him full of hurt and sadness. It seems both of their families have had a very negative on the way that they live. Can the two of them help the other see that they are worth everything? That they are so full of life and love that they can be there for one another. When a situation arises, hearts are broken but will distance and family help them see what is important? I absolutely loved this book and the character development that happened with Hope and Ares. To see how they started off and how they developed individually, as a couple and as a family with both of their little girls. I definitely recommend picking up Sweet Everythings and fall in love with this book. I warn you that you will not be able to put it down so make sure you find a cozy spot to read.
Single parent Enemies to lovers Grumpy/sunshine Workplace romance Mature characters
Sweet Everythings gives us realistic situations with realistic characters. Hope and Ares are both single parents to adorable little girls. They both struggle with work, relationships and parenting. Somethings most people can relate to. The story was fun and emotional. I loved Hope. She was confident with what she wanted. She was a great mother and had an amazing support system with her daughter’s father Lucky and his amazing partner Minty. We met them previously in their own story(Also amazing). She has her dream job but her love life is lacking. As her job becomes more demanding, it causes friction with her mom. Mom is a traditional wife and stay at home mom. The dynamics of her relationship with Hope’s dad is something Hope hates and doesn’t understand. They constantly butt heads. Hope wants it all: career and family.
Ares, single father and a bit of a grump. Except with his daughter. He did not leave a good impression when he first met Hope. He was rude. As we get to know Ares, we get a better understanding of his behavior. His was full of hurt from his past. It was enough to make you cry for him. It made him a loner. He didn’t trust easy and guarded his heart and daughter fiercely.
Hope took a chance in Ares. He didn’t realize what was missing until he was introduced to her circle. Hope showed him that a family is not always blood. It took going through some ups and downs but it was worth it.
Great characters, wonderful plot and excellent writing.
Ms. Sloane creates characters that are real to life with messy, complicated lives that we can relate to. And then she builds their relationships, staging the connection. Slowly. With chemistry that just oozes off the page.
I adore her characters. Love her stories. Many meaningful memories that linger because Ms. Sloane never fails to develop that foundation, that trust with her characters and her readers and delivers a beautiful, emotional storyline.
Hope is a single mom. Her child's father--her best friend. And no, there's no sparks there...they're just best friends. And actually his girlfriend is a delightful addition to this modern family. The issue may be finding her own true love that accepts life this way.
In enters Ares. A photographer Hope has to work with. Starting on the wrong page, these two find friendship and love, along with finding themselves and struggling to find the right path. Troubled souls. Meant to be. Fighting to make it all work.
A brief introduction to Hope & Ares story but once you read every magical word this author writes, the story pulls at your heartstrings, sends you on an emotional rollercoaster and ties you down so you cannot do anything else but read...wishing it never ended!
He's broken and needs her. She's willing to give him her all. Will it be enough? Trust me. You won't be the same after reading this. In a good way.
This book wrecked me. I was warned by Devin but I still was not prepared. I’m an incredibly emotional person. And this book brought out all of the emotions. The good and the bad. I said it before in my review for a lifetime of after’s. But I related a scary amount to Hope. I was a single, hardworking mom. One who thought her job would give her everything she needed and provide her child the life she needed. The unknown of what my actions would do in the long run but knowing in my heart I was doing the best I could for my little one. And now I’m a sahm mom who’s finally figured out what she wants to be when she grows up. On the journey of becoming the best I can for myself and everyone else important in my life. I also related to Ares in the aspect that I vowed to not do what my parents did raising me. That I wouldn’t/won’t be them. That i’d do better. The struggle of being incredibly self critical and unsure if I was actually doing the right thing for my child. I also cried when I realized the answer to something that has been difficult for the last 6 years of my life. When a book gives you an answer you’ve been searching for for years you know it’s a good one. Devin has an amazing ability to write real romance with real people with real problems. Each book I read by her solidifies my love for her writing and books.
Entering the world of Hope, was an eye-opener for me. A single mum who shares the care of her daughter Brayleigh successfully with her best friend and Brayleigh's Dad, Lucky was an unusual world to read about.
I did wonder if Hope was ever going to meet her Mr Right, and when Ares entered the novel, I became engrossed in their world. I found myself asking more questions about him than Hope. Certain things became obvious, for example, Ares had a reluctance to date Hope, and her job was becoming more complicated, all of which led me to read through the novel swiftly.
However, it is a tough novel to be constructive about without revealing too much.
I can say I enjoyed the novel and the way the characters interacted, with each other despite more problems arising in their lives. I found the issues that Ares had intriguing as many people have childhoods that are far from perfect and the solution to his problem helped cement the story and plotline.
On the other hand, Minty, Lucky's girlfriend seemed too good to be true, I kept waiting for a fault to show.
This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a mix of strong modern-day characters and personalities who draw you into their world. I, did receive an advance review copy free of charge, and would like to add that this review is being made voluntarily.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Hope is a mother first to her daughter, Brayleigh. Though not married, her best friend who is also Brayleigh’s father is very prominent in their lives. They share joint custody. Switching Brayleigh between homes every few days. A routine that Brayleigh has become accustomed to living. All things change when Hope gets a promotion. It is all she ever wanted. Unfortunately, it comes with a boss from hell and a cocky photographer that Hope can’t seem to get off of her mind.
Ares can only focus on one thing, his daughter Anastasia. With her mother walking away, Ares is a single father that is struggling to be a parent and his draw to a certain photo shoot manager. Sparks fly and though the attraction is off the charts, Ares continues to pull away. Can Hope deal with the back and forth along with the stresses of her job and the weird family life she had made for Brayleigh?
This book is about two adults. Grown people with grown people problems. Both navigating through uncharted and sometimes unwanted waters. Through it all, the children remain first. Readers will enjoy this heartwarming love story and put your self in Hope and Ares’ positions. This book gives a realistic view of an adult relationship.
Devin Sloan is one of my favourite Authors. I don't think I have ever read a book that hasn't ticked all my boxes. This book ticked them all as well.
Another thing about Devin's creations, is you know you are in for an epic read. A read with so much depth to the characters and again, this story had it in spades.
Both the leading characters as well as the secondary characters are all so present through the story which makes you enjoy the ride that much more.
Hope was such an amazing leading Lady. The type of character you want as your best friend as all the qualities she showed through the story were beautiful.
The same with Ares. He also was a lovely character to unwrap as the story went along. It was nice to peal away the layers to show us a character you couldn't help but fall in love along side Hope.
Everything about this book was just a joy to read. I came away from this book with a full heart and knew I had read another lovely story that made me feel happy. Nothing was left unsaid or left open and that is always a plus.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a spin-off from Ms. Sloane's previous series and I was happy to see that most of the self-doubt/irrational thoughts of unworthiness belonged to a male character this time around. With all the macho stuff they throw around, these types of issues might be even harder for them to face.
Ares is a wonderful loving man, but let's his upbringing creep into his mind and he finds himself never wanting to repeat the short comings of his father. It takes Hope to break down the barriers he has thrown up in order to get him to accept her love and be willing to return it.
I loved the babies in this book. The two of them couldn't be more different, but both were so loved by the other characters. They are the purest form of love.
Another steamy, highly emotional story that will take you on a journey you didn't even realize you needed to take. The epilogue was the best. Thank you for the ride!
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. All thoughts are my own.
Hope is looking at a promotion at work. It’s going to involve more travel and she’s unsure how it’ll affect her young daughter, Brayliegh. Hope is lucky that her best friend is her babies father and she’s close to him and his wonderful girlfriend, Minty. This means her daughter will at least have some stability while she follows her dream.
Unfortunately this dream comes with having to work with arrogant photographer Ares. Known as someone who doesn’t treat women particularly well and has been know to spend nights with the models he photographs, Hope is not looking forward to working with him.
Can Hope and Ares have some kind of relationship or will it all be a bit too much?
As a regular reader of this authors books I love knowing there are huge links to past books. It’s like settling down with friends and family and hearing what’s new with them all.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Ares and Hopes story it’s been a journey for sure. There were ups and downs, family drama, some greek sunshine and a little spiciness too.
Highly recommend this and all her other books too, they’re some of my favourites!
I absolutely loved Hope. From meeting her in a previous book, I was excited to read Hope's story.
The inner workings of her mind completely surprised me. She became someone I could relate with.
Striving to be her own person, the best mother, and having the career she wanted and not to settle for anything less.
Ares, he left me feeling many different things. Mostly anger FOR him. His childhood had left him with scars so deep he doubted he could be enough for his little daughter.
Ares and Hope start "not being a thing," and I love them together.
Devin always gives us an emotional roller-coaster of a story that can rip out your heart but place it back within your chest all at the same time. After reading all the previous books and falling in love with them, Ares and Hope's story is just imperfectly perfect.
Thank you, Devin, for gifting me a copy of your book to read.📚❤️
This is Hope and Ares story, and an incredible one I must say. Devin’s characters somehow always speak to me, and this was no different. This story is about finding family, and learning to trust and love yourself. I definitely need some of that in my life.
Hope (FMC) is lovely, and just so relatable. I loved her character in Broken Road, and her story is everything I could hope for for her. I couldn’t be more content, her pairing with Ares is perfection. I fell so hard for him with his childhood and all the things he needed to overcome. I think his strength and character, even if it was painful made me love him.
This had spice, ups, downs and sweet everythings. The epilogue had me crying I was laughing so hard. I loved this and cannot wait for Devin’s next book. I definitely recommend, but also think reading Broken Road first would be beneficial to the reader, but not mandatory! 🥰
Devin Sloan can pen a realistic and emotionally gripping story like nobody’s business. Her characters have hopes, dreams, faults and family drama just like the rest of us. When they hit that breaking point, I swear I have the best emotionally cleansing cries right alongside them. In “Sweet Everythings” it happened to me not once, but twice! If ever there was a character that deserved a happy ending, it’s Ares. In Hope he found everything he never knew he needed. Their story is most definitely representative of that roller coaster ride we readers here about so often. Trust me reading friends, once your stomach settles, this ride will have been so worth it in the end.
I received an E-ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
Very realistic love story for Hope and Ares, who were both in social media jobs. Ares was a well known Photographer and Hope was a writer and social organizer for fashion. They met each other while on their jobs for the same company.
There were plenty of problems and barriers blocking them and they each had to learn to work around their own weak spots and self doubts and hurts from growing up in their families.
Enjoyed the little characters, their daughters Brayleigh and Sia (Anastasia). You could count on sone endearing moments and chuckles when they were around.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Hope and Ares were the most beautifully imperfect couple that fought tooth and nail to get to their happily ever after. Their trauma and how they dealt with it in this budding relationship was so realistic - you felt as if you were literally walking along side them in their journey.
Devin again had the perfect amount of detail in her storytelling. The words she used to detail scenes and settings had me literally closing my eyes and envisioning everything I was reading.
Sweet Everything’s is another 5 tea review from me.
What a wonderful journey Devin Sloane takes us on. Her stories are always emotional and keep me turning the pages. From realistic characters to gripping stories of real-life issues, her writing is phenomenal. Prepare your emotions for a wild and fulfilling ride. I’m thrilled that Ares and Hope got their happily ever after. Grab this book and settle in for a fantastic read!
Hope and Ares…these two are just amazing. I could not get enough of them and the growth and character development they both went through. The fact that Hope got her HEA made me so happy as I had really loved her. I will update this with a full length review - life is just crazy so I haven’t had time to sit down and write down all my thoughts and feelings for this wondrous book
I liked the book storyline, the characters and the development. I liked Ares and Hope together. Sia and Braleigh were sweet. My only criticism was I found the book wordy. I felt it interrupted an easy flow not allowing the book to be easily readable.
Aahhhhh as usual Devin Sloane has me on an emotional roller coaster 😭🤧 This was such a great book & I absolutely loved it!! Everything was written so beautifully & I just couldn’t get enough no matter how emotional it was!!😅🥰 Sooo sooo good must read!!🩵🖤
[dnf @ 25%] hmm... at 25% i still don't understand what the heroine's job is to be honest. i mean i know she work in the fashion industry, but exactly what is her job? visual merchandising? marketing?
There's a new man in town and his name is Ares Becket!! This man will insert himself into your heart and completely take over! He's dark, grumpy, and suffers from childhood trauma (we all love a tortured hero), but he's oh-so-sweet and hot AF!! He'll have you saying "Yes, Daddy" while he calls you his "Good girl!" Now for Hope. She's sunshine and happiness, but on the inside, she struggles with life choices and her sense of belonging. SHe'll have you cracking up though! Last but most certainly not least, is little Brayleigh. This precious little girl steals the show! This book is emotion personified. It's romantic realism. You'll shed a tear (or two or three), get angry but then be laughing at all the antics. I think I say this every time I read a new book by the fabulous Devin Sloane, but this one is officially my favorite!! If you haven't read any of her books yet, you're missing out!!
