Born in Georgia, Martha attended the Cincinnati Academy of Art, and lived in many places, including New York, Alaska, and Washington state, before settling in Honolulu, Hawaii. She had two children, eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
This is an oldie, but a goodie. A girl leaves with her trusted dog in the middle of the night to chase the moon. It's beautiful and simple. She tries to reach it, lasso it, catch it in many ways and then finally lets the sky have the moon back. It captures the pure and beautiful way that a child's mind wonders at the night sky and it's glorious contents. A lovely read to do right before bedtime.
My grandma used to read this to us when we were little, 25 years ago. The gray drawings contrasted with the bright yellow moon set the atmosphere for this charming story.
I'm on my deck looking at a yellow full moon right now and I still think to myself, "Look it's Maggie's moon!" 25 years later.
We got this book for my niece and it's as good as I remember!
we took this out at the library and it has been a favorite since. My daughter loved the black and white illustrations the only thing in color was the moon. If your child loves stories about the moon, this is a cute one.
