It took me a little while to settle into this one. Maybe that is my fault. I think initially I was expecting a different type of book. Must have had this author mixed up another Aussie writer who writes other fiction. Once I settled I did enjoy this story of three sisters. Daisy is the offspring from George’s first marriage to Ailie. Maddie and Lilly are from his second marriage to English born Elizabeth. As it turns out, though divorced from Ailie, she is still the love of his life. When Ailie dies, Daisy Sheldon has some decisions to make re the property. She decides to settle instead in the coastal town of Inlet Creek, where she starts a tea shop. Maddie is unsure if she should stay and help run her father’s sheep station in the highlands. Or does her future hinge on other plans? Lilly is confronted by a choice to return to England or make her home in Australia. And will the sisters resolve their differences? Jealousy breeds resentment and colours relationships within the family. Is it possible to put those feelings aside and build new relationships? What does the future hold? The story is told of first Daisy, then Maddie and then Lilly. And as well as the family relationships there is romance in the air in more than one woman’s life. Sex scenes are sensitively handled without the need some authors feel to give a blow by blow description. Each of the three sisters is likeable and interesting. George’s second wife Elizabeth is thoroughly unlikable. Maybe she has reason, or does she? Inlet Creek is set around the area of Jervis Bay near to where I live, so it made for a very familiar setting, well portrayed. An enjoyable read recommended to those who like great Aussie rural fiction and books about family relationships.
A family saga of three sisters who reconnect at a family funeral and forge new lives. Each of the sisters has a past that helps shape them but it is the bond between the three that strengthens each one, leaving the reader with a warm feeling of friendship. Set on an Australian outback sheep station and in a small coastal NSW town, this story took me through an emotional journey and provided a beautiful, satisfying end.
