But, Mama! Kiddo learned a new phrase. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but we sure had fun reading this book. It's about a mother being on the phone with her kid. She's waiting for the airplane and her kid is asking her how will she get home if something happens to the plane and the adventure begins filled with camels and pirates. Quick read. Good for toddlers. Highly recommend.

Why would any mom call her child "stinky face". I wish if I can take that from this fun book. Reminded me so much with Abla Arwa's "مساء بدون أمي".

I love to read ‘I Miss You, Stinky Face’ with students that are having some trouble with separation anxiety. The outlandish scenarios of Stinky Face’s mother trying to get home snap their attention right up, and the underlying message that ‘mom always comes back’ brings much-needed reassurance and comfort. An endearing, fun book.

This is such a sweet book of a conversation between a child and mother. The child is worried the mother will not make it home and the mother answers the child's questions with creative fantasy ways home. I highly recommend this book to all ages. Illustrations are bright and colorful.

Another great read of Stinky Face. We have the board book version and although we don't like how small the pictures are, the story is still wonderful.

Good morning readers! I wanted to apologize for not posting in the last 4 days. I have had my nieces and trying to keep 2 pre teenagers and my 6 year old son equally entertained all at the same time has been a challenge. Please bare with me as I post the reviews throughout the day for the last 4 days as well as today.

McCourt, Lisa. I Miss You, Stinky Face. Illustrated by Cyd Moore. New York: Scholastic Inc., c1999.

A mother is talking to her son assuring him her speedy return on an airplane. The boy goes through several scenarios about what she could do to get home incase something happens to the airplane. When I first grabbed this book, I grabbed it because of the dragon on the cover. As I read the story I was a bit disappointed that the book only had the dragon in it in the back, but then I looked at the cover again and see the tiger and things mentioned in the book. I then wasn’t as disappointed, and read it again. With realizing what the story entails, reading it the second time I found it a cute little story.

I really like the illustrations because they look like they were pulled from a dream and they matched the text rather perfectly. The illustrations take up the whole page with blank space for the text.

One thing I didn’t care for was the change in text throughout the book. The “fancy” font was a bit distracting and took away from the story for me. I really liked the detail that was added to each illustration. The illustrator really took their time to make sure that everything was as close to perfect as possible.

I would recommend this book. I would like to suggest to the illustrator to try to change the cover because it is misleading to children and adults alike.

xoxo,

Jade

When I graduated from high, I was given this book by my boyfriend at the times mother (Cyd Moore). She is the illustrator of this and many other children’s books. I moving away to college and was fearful of leaving my family and friends behind, but this book always had a way to cheer me up and make me smile. The book presents a dialogue between a mother and son on the telephone, and the imaginative boy questions how his mother will make it back to him. With detailed explanations and illustrations, the mother pledges in various ways how she will manage to come home to him. Through an extraordinary journey on pirate and rocket ships, on the backs of cheetahs, camels, sharks, and dragons, readers will be amused with the book's distinctive message: Nothing could ever keep a loving mother from being with her child.

While working in a school's after care program, a second grader wanted me to read this book to her. She thought it was hilarious that the title said Stinky Face. I laughed along with the other kids in my group, but then agreed to read it. I ended up truly enjoying this book. Lisa McCourt tells the story of a boy who talks to his mom over the phone about when she will be home.
As she explains that she will be home soon, the boy's imagination runs wild as he asks her What Ifs about things that could keep her from getting home. What I loved about the conversation was the quick-witted, exciting answers the mom was able to give to every scenario set before her by her son. I felt that the story was fun, but also showed the powerful love between a boy and his mom.

Naturally, children and parents miss each other when they are separated. This sweet board book provides reassurance that Stinky Face's mother will be back as soon as she possibly can, and that nothing can prevent her from getting back as quickly as she possibly can. The lively colors and simple text show various adventures and challenges she faces on her journey home, but readers will also note her determination. After all, there is no place as welcoming as one's home.

I first saw this book on the PBS show "Between the Lions." I just loved how Emma picked up on the "But Mama..." line. After seeing it on TV, she just walked around saying "But Mama. But Mama."
We then checked it out of the library and she made me read it to her every possible chance.
Any book that can keep a 2 year old that attentive deserves an "amazing" rating!

We liked this one as well, but not quite as much as I Love You. Still has the same wonderful illustrations, same zany imagination, but seemed a little more forced.

Continues the same theme of wondering if your parent will love you if they're gone. A sweet story.

It really bothers my kids that they can't figure out if it's a girl or a boy. Oh well.

A sweet book for any mom who spends time away from home. I travel for work and I love this book. My three-year-old son knows I go to the airport but he's unclear about what happens after that (including when I call him from the road). This is a touching reminder that Mom will fight any obstacle to get back home to her kiddo(s).

The story book illustrates a lovely dialog between a mother and her son in a fun way. It shows a strong relationship between both of them. I suggested for second and third grade children as well as for second language learners to build up their language proficiency.

This a beautiful story about a mother's love and her immagination. I love the back and forth diagolue between mother and son. I think children love hearing about all the things a mother would do to get back to them. A very sweet story with beautiful illustrations.
