I was delighted when we started reading this book to find it was the same as our old golden book just with updated illustrations. I have loved reading our old copy to my children. The captions on each page have a fun rhythm. There’s only one or two pages where the rhythm seems forced. All of the letters of the alphabet follow traditional phonetic pronunciations except ‘A’ and perhaps ‘X’.

My son enthusiastically endorses this book with an “Again! Again!”

Alliteration of Halloween costues, maybe. ABCs of Halloween it is not. Meh.

REALLY CUTE

I get an email every day or so full of horror books. One of the topics today was Banned Horror Books.
Hadn't read this one.
What kind of idiot bans a book that shows costumed cartoon kids?! Whoever it was better not open the door Halloween night because there WILL be witches and vampires mixed in with the ballerinas and cowboys.
It's a cute book, lots of emphasis on each letter. A child who doesn't know what to be for Halloween could get some good ideas from the illustrations.
And I'm gonna read it to my grandkids.

How Should a 19 year old get ready for Halloween? Probably not by reading this book, but that's what I did anyway!
All jokes aside it was a pretty good book, that I could see lots of children enjoying.

i liked the fun and creative way to show the ABCs to younger readers, with the pictures and words on the page, it helps them in many ways. it just adds a more exciting and fun way to learn, so i think it would be a good source in a class

I appreciated the alliteration, the art was simple but enjoyable with a diverse cast of trick or treaters (which I thought was surprising for a book from 1993, but from other reviewers I see the illustrations were changed in the 2009 version).

It started out great, but then dropped dramatically. By the letter E both myself and the kids were bored with it.

"The rumpled rabbit is ready to rest, the spooky skeleton is sleepy.
The tiny tiger is terribly tired - from too much trick-or-treating!"

This adorable picture book teaches kids the alphabet in a fun way with illustrations of children going trick-or-treating, dressed in various costumes, from ballerina and a cowboy to a dentist, dinosaur and kangaroo. The book not only teaches children their ABCs, it also teaches them about animals they may not have ever seen or heard of, including an iguana, kangaroo and a yak .If your little one hasn't yet decided what he or she wants to be for Halloween, this is a great book that will give them many fun, cute ideas...

This is a nice book, with a basic suburban Halloween ambience that works well to make it more like a regular story, and not just an alphabet teaching book. "Xavier" and "Xylophone" for "X" might have been predictable, but that's always a sticking point in any alphabet book, and the book as a whole is done well.

20 months - another thrift store find. This is a cute take on ABCs with a Halloween theme. A nice way to add the alphabet to the seasonal books and anytime... who doesn't like Halloween in January!
