Janet Quin-Harkin is a pseudonym of Rhys Bowen

Rhys turned to writing children’s books under her married name, Janet Quin-Harkin. Her first picture book was an immediate success and won several awards. More picture books followed, then her agent asked her to write a book for young adults. This was a turning point in Rhys’s career. Her first young adult novel was an instant hit. By her third she was selling half a million copies. Many more popular YA novels followed until Rhys decided she had said all she wanted to say about teenage love and angst, and she turned her real love—mysteries.

A trip down memory lane.
I used to read this book over and over two decades ago. I’m not sure wether I would recommend it to a teenager today or not, some passages are problematic (diet-related for instance) BUT it was like being 13 again. And that part was fun.

I am dying!!!!!!!!!! I read this book probably a thousand times when I was younger and have never forgotten the story premise. I mean, how could I not when I have read so many times??
But I just found it again and read it for the first time in 35? 40 years??? DYING.

I’m realizing this is where I probably learned about Connecticut and that it’s just a train ride away from NYC.

I love how 80’s this is — talks about the new wave fashion.

And um can we talk for a minute about the fat shaming in the 80’s?!? No wonder us Gen Xers have body issues. WTH?! 🤦‍♀️

But overall this was such a fun blast from the past. I love re reading books from my youth that I read multiple times and loved. It feels like forever ago and yet it also doesn’t.

I can’t recommend this book to everyone but I’m def giving it 5 stars since it was a favorite of mine years ago.

Thriftbooks.com for the win!!!!
And a huge shoutout to the Facebook group, Vintage Children’s Books, for helping me remember the title to this. I feel like I hit the jackpot with this one!!!

Btw I read this book in like 2 hrs on a plane. Lol!

LOVE THIS!!!

A young girl pretending to be her rock star twin sister. Not sure how the teachers don’t notice a ‘different’ student or even her friends but anyway. You just cringe the whole way through because you know the secret will come out. A bit drawn out.
