Mystical experience has been sought after throughout human existence, whether through prayer and meditation, alcohol and hallucinogens, trance, music, ecstatic rites, sports, or many other means. For some, it represents escape from a stressful reality; for others, it is an alternate reality to be explored, while still others find creativity and inspiration there, and Buddhists describe it as a path to world peace and the healing of humanity. The human brain is capable of many states of consciousness, and exploring its outer reaches a fascinating topic. How can we do so?
