In a blend of fiction and autobiography, actress Trisha Todd reveals the secret loves she chased after--and ran from--her whole life. And, for the first time, tells the true story behind her unforgettable performance in the classic lesbian film "Claire of the Moon".
This is an astonishing book and hard to review. How can you enjoy an insight into someone’s pain and applaud from the sidelines of a tortuous journey? Yet Ms Todd herself talks of the importance of truth. The truth is I was partly rooting for Trisha and her relationship with Annie and partly wishing she would run a mile from it. I think we need to have experiences like these to grow as a person and I hope Ms Todd has found the someone to grow with.
There are many insights into a creative life, into dreams, and expectations and I found it fascinating. The book is not an easy read but it is strong and it is honest and it is a searing glimpse into how we sometimes hide from ourselves what we don’t want to see or hear. As a Brit the very thought of "the drive" for thousands of miles freaks me out but added to solo trips to Greece etc, it is easy to see that Trisha Todd is a brave, compassionate, committed woman and I admire her. It helps that she was brilliant in Claire of the Moon, as this book shows the same angst and ennui as "Claire" and I’m glad that the author found her niche.
I will reread parts of this when I’m wallowing with my own demons.
