I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.
I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!

🎧 Audiobook Review: Prisoner (Raider Warlords of the Vandar, #8)
Author: Tana Stone Genre: Science Fiction Romance / Alien Romance Narrators: Marcio Catalano and Aubrey Vincent
📚 Characters & Background
Raas Ayden leads a horde of Kyrie Vandar warriors—descendants of the exiled Vandar who defied their government generations ago. Their fathers were banished, their mothers were Seelee, and their white hair marks them as outsiders even among their own people. Ayden once served as first mate to Raas Ronan, but with Ronan now off rallying other Vandar hordes to face the still‑surviving Zagrath Empire, Ayden has stepped into leadership.
Cassie, a skilled navigator with the Valox resistance, is close friends with Sloane—the only pilot who believed the Zagrath threat wasn’t truly gone. After Sloane mated with Ronan, Cassie and her friends began working alongside the Vandar. Cassie had been casually involved with a human superior who insisted on keeping their relationship secret, a red flag her friends immediately called out. Realizing he wanted the benefits without the commitment, she cut things off.
Ayden, already drawn to Cassie, bristled at how the human man treated her and quietly set plans in motion to remove him from her orbit. But before Ayden can make his move, Cassie and the other women are ambushed by Zagrath forces, shot down, and crash‑land on the planet Zengolas—where they’re quickly captured by mercenaries.
🌟 Strengths
• The story delivers a strong blend of action, danger, and forward momentum, anchored by a capable, resilient heroine. • The supporting cast shines, weaving together familiar faces from earlier books with compelling new characters who expand the world and deepen the stakes.
💔 Limitations
• The heavy emphasis on action leaves the central romance feeling a bit underfed; more emotional and physical connection between Ayden and Cassie would have strengthened the payoff. • The title suggests a longer or more intense captivity arc, but the mercenary “prisoner” element is brief and not as central as expected.
🎙️ Narration
The duet narration by Marcio Catalano and Aubrey Vincent elevates the story’s emotional depth. Catalano’s smooth, grounded delivery embodies Ayden’s authority and quiet protectiveness, while Vincent brings Cassie’s determination, vulnerability, and intelligence into sharp focus. Their performances complement each other beautifully, making the alternating perspectives feel seamless and immersive.
💬 Final Assessment
This installment offers a fast‑paced, danger‑filled adventure with a strong heroine and a compelling expansion of the Vandar universe. While the romance takes a back seat to the action—and could have used more heat and emotional development—the world‑building, character dynamics, and high‑stakes tension keep the story engaging. Fans of the series will appreciate the continuity, the evolving political landscape, and the groundwork laid for future conflicts. It’s a solid, entertaining entry that delivers on action and character growth, even if the romantic spark burns a little quieter than expected.
I've read all of this author's books/series and I have to say the Kyrie Vandars are my favorite. This book is non-stop action with incredibly well developed main characters. Highly recommend!
Cassie is a navigator. She chose to stay onboard the Kyrie Vandar warship after Sloanne left with Raas Ronnan to recruit more fighters against the Zagreth. She is working on charting the Javelon sector to help with the upcoming attack on the Zagreth fleet.
Ayden has been appointed temporary Raas of the warship while Ronnan is gone. He usually serves the majak (first officer). He has some doubts about his ability to be Raas.
Cassie and the Valox captain Roy Crachon are "dating" on the sly. Ayden takes Crachon drinking and gets him to say he wants to return to Valox to try his hand with the new lady recruits. Ayden has him immediately taken to the planet and off his ship. He has his eye on Cassie. Meanwhile Raas Bron and his Raisa Alana, formerly the most deadly assassin the empire, arrive on board to help. Cassie finds a navigational anomaly and needs to investigate it. She convinced Ayden to let her, Tess and Alana go. Their ship is surrounded by Imperial ships and gets shot in the engine when the women attempt to flee. They crash land on planet Zengolas, home of the Kassel Run mercenaries who have a bounty on Alana's head. Bron and Ayden mount a rescue mission. The ladies escape the crash, run into the swamp and hide in a grove of trees. Tess knocks Alana out to keep her from being captured. She and Cassie get taken to the Kassel Run headquarters. Bron and Ayden find Alana and go after them. They encounter a group of orphaned children living in the swamp who agree to help if the Vandars taken the kids with them. During the rescue Ayden and Cassie get separated from the rest and take shelter in a hut. Raas Vassim and his crew find them and after an altercation with the mercenaries take them back to the warbird.
Another winner for Tana Stone. The Vandar Warriors series is fantastic, from the very start. I have enjoyed reading every single book, and I look forward to the next one, this series always delivers.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story, and I look forward to more books in the series. If you are familiar with the previous stories in the series, you will know that the Vandar hordes are trying to protect those who are weaker than their enemy. Cassie has it in her mind that she wants to help win the battle and join forces with the new warlord Raas Aydan, they find themselves in trouble when they are captured by the enemy who wants to use her to aide his battle. They have to work together to reach the happily ever after that they eventually enjoy.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
🔥 “My love for you is as indelible as the marks on your skin and mine. It cannot be broken.” ~~~ Cassie is part of the Valox resistance and one brilliant navigator. Most people might think of her as odd and she might feel like she doesn’t fit anywhere, but Cassie is such a wonderful woman. She’s quiet and shy, but she’s also brave, kind, determined and dedicated to her work. And she’s an amazing and loyal friend. I loved that curvy and blue-haired beauty so much!
Ayden, the majak of Raas Ronnan, is now serving as Raas while Ronnan visits one of the hidden Vandar colonies and gathers warriors to join the fight against the Zagrath. As all Vandar warriors, he’s one huge, ripped, lethal, strong, cocky and dangerous male. But he’s also a brilliant, level-headed and perceptive strategist. And I loved his fierce protectiveness and delicious possessiveness and dominance. Raas Ayden is one impressive Vandar warlord and I adored every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Cassie and Raas Ayden! Cassie, being in a secret situationship with a superior who’s trying to hide the fact that they’re together for all the wrong reasons, is done with men. And she, her friends and the other Valox fighters are helping the Vandar in preparation of their fight against the Zagrath. Cassie might not be bold and demanding like her friends, but there is a softness to her that draws the new Raas in. And I loved how Ayden noticed even the smallest details and actions when it came to Cassie. Even more, when Cassie, Thea and Raisa Alana's scouting mission went awry, he didn’t hesitate to go after the women and do everything in his power to save them. And he did so much to prove to Cassie that she was worth it and the right male will always come for her! I just loved those two together! Their chemistry was fantastic and I loved how they completed one another. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable attraction, even amidst danger, the passionate moments they shared were so hot. Oh, those Vandar and their filthy mouths and naughty tails!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! The Zagrath are dangerous and play a long game, so the fight against them is even more crucial now. But, after the mission to the lawless Jarvelon sector, a new enemy might be rising. With the unexpected turns of events and the wild escape through alien swamps, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another spectacular addition to the series! It’s filled with danger, suspense, action, twists, scorching hot passion and magnificent characters.
I absolutely loved every page of it and, with how the story ended, I’m super excited to see what happens next!
I want my own sexy Vandar too….everyone else is getting one….so one for me please. Please and thank you.
Ayden is acting Raas why Ronan is away…and of course it goes south fast. Cassie is one of the two besties of Sloane’s that stayed on the Vandar ship to help with the fight against the Zagrath….or get eyefuls of sexy Vandars in kilts that don’t always cover the goods, winks. I know, count me in for sure for that smorgasbord. Raas Bron and his former assassin, Alana also come to join the crew. The 3 women take a girl’s trip to investigate a gravitational anomaly into the sector full of pirates and mercenaries, I know, not exactly my idea of a fun girl trip, but it be like that sometimes. This sector makes the former most feared assassin cringe…yup let the “fun” begin.
Safe read, with a hot couple. Great storyline, with a lot of humor, action, some mercenaries that are not even remotely good guys, swamp shenanigans (and no, there is not a swamp on the ship), and of course sexy times. We get to see some of our favorites from previous books, including the Deranged Raas, and gain some new favorites as well. A great epilogue that will have you needing the next book asap, and a hea.
Prisoner is the second book in the lost Vandar saga. Ayden is temporary Raass while his friend is off with his new mate. He has been put in charge of making the fleet ready to take on the Empire that has gone into hiding but still posses a clear and present danger. He is clam, deadly and a true strategist. The only time he is not thinking of the mission is when he's trying to prove his worth and when he's thinking of Cassie the beautiful brainy human navigator. Cassie is a navigator for the Velox resistance and she's on loan to the Vandar. She's been on the war bird for several weeks and has tried to prove her herself worthy. She's had a few bad relationships, she's to smart for most and she's tired of coming in second. her attraction to Ayden has grown over the weeks on the ship and she just wants to prove that she's good at her job. On a mission she and two others crash land and are captured and that when Ayden realizes that he's been fighting a losing battle and that Cassie is belongs to him and nothing will stop him from saving her. Danger is around every corner and and new enemies are made. Come join the adventure that is just beginning! 🔥💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖
I loved Cassie and Ayden’s slow burn, alien, brainy girl romance with a side of capture. Cassie is a geeky, shy human and a navigator for the Valox resistance. She has been working on a Vandar warbird helping to design the plan to attack the Empire. Ayden is acting as Raas of the Kyrie Vandar while the permanent Raas is visiting one of the hidden colonies. Cassie and Ayden are attracted to one another but neither has acted on the attraction. Cassie and two other females are captured during a mission to the lawless Jarvelon sector and the Vandar must rescue them. There was a great balance of romance and suspense in this book which made it unputdownable. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, alien physiology and cultures, painful pasts, drama, snark, plot twists, secrets, and laughs. I could read about Vandar warriors all day especially their reaction to human females. I love them.
Prisoner is the eighth book in the fantastic Raider Warlords of the Vandar series by Tana Stone. Raider Warlords of Vandar Series by Tana Stone is another fantastic sci-fi romance series – with an ‘abduction and seduction’ theme that runs through the collection. With Alien Warlords, resistance fighters, space battles, action, adventure, captives, war, alpha males, tension, intrigue, emotion, drama, and danger- while the vivid world-building made this series all the more enjoyable. Each book could be read as a standalone, but there is a ‘bigger picture’ being painted in the background, therefore, I really recommend reading the entire series (in sequence) so you don’t miss any of the important interconnected details, which will elevate you whole reading experience. Looking forward to more from Ms. Stone… Happy Reading…
This enjoyable story is about a newly promoted Raas Ayden and Cassie. Cassie and Thea who work for the Valox Resistance are onboard Ayden's Warbird. Cassie a navigator is mapping out the Jarvelon sector for the attack. Cassie and Thea go out in a scouting mission to the Javelon sector to get more data when their spaceship is attacked by mercenary gang. Ayden goes to rescue them. Does Ayden succeed? This action-filled, romantic, page turning story was a very enjoyable read. I loved the characters, their chemistry sizzled, the storyline was well written in this copy I received and volunteer to review.
Cassie is super smart with numbers and navigation but she isn't as self-confident as she should be. She doesn't even notice when Raas Ayden takes interest in her.
I liked Aydan the best of all the Vandar so far because he wasn't arrogant or or overbearing like the others. He knew he liked Cass but didn't force the issue which was more romantic to me.
I have to mention how hard I was laughing when Cass and Thea were having a conversation about sex. I was in tears because it was so hilarious.
I hope to see more of that humor in the next books.
I loved the setting of this story. Cassie, a navigator for the Valox freedom fighters, and her friend and co-worker Thea are on loan to the Vandar. A mission to get valuable navigational information about an anomaly in the Jarvelon sector goes sideways. Accompanying the women on the mission is the former assassin Alana, mate of Raas Bron. Raas Ayden of the Kyrie Vandar and Raas Bron go on a rescue mission to get the women back. There are mysteries and surprises in the swamps of Zengolas where the women end up. A new enemy is created, and new allies are discovered.
Cassie and Raas Ayden Fantastic, this vandar hibrids are so yummi. I loved how he protected her from the human captain making him belieber he was the One who wanted to leave, briliant! Cassie os a Navigator and a great One and is woeking on the warbird of Raas Ayden, She needs to get more data for the attack course and get helself and her friends caugth. Of course The Raas hás to go and save them with the help of his other Raas friend that has also his Raíssa with Cassie. Great book and I can't wait for more Vandar warriors.
Lots of storyline co.ing together in this 8th entry in the series
Easy and quick read. Ayden is Raas now and Cassie is more than the best navigator they can find. Alana returns with Bron, and Thea rounds out the scouting party of three female humans... as the Vandar plan to enter the uncharted space where the Zagrath have been hiding and regrouping.
We get more story than romance, but the romance is obvious to everyone except Cassie and Ayden. I am ready to see where our 9th book takes our growing resistance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Prisoner shifts the action to a prison ship, offering a survival-based storyline that keeps things tense and atmospheric. Cassie’s dynamic with her mysterious Lost Vandar cellmate is taut with unspoken danger and reluctant trust. The enclosed setting amps up the pressure while leaving space for vulnerability and emotional bonding. Although slightly slower than previous installments, the story still delivers on heat and high-stakes drama. The isolation allows the romance to bloom more gradually, making it a satisfying slow burn amid chaos.
The Lost Vandar are winning me in, they're just like their Vandar brothers but the exile gave them an edge. Cassie is a navigator for the Valox resistance and Ayden is taking the mantel of Rass, whilst Ronnan is away. The story was fun, steamy, had action, some danger, and the fated ones we love. I was given a free copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved Cassie and Ayden. I particularly liked the way he got rid of the ghastly Captain Ron, to the relief of Cassie, he was an awful character. The attraction is there from the time Cassie and Ayden meet, although Ayden does his best to ignore the growing feelings he has for her. A fast paced M interesting and thrilling story which has appearances by Raas’s from previous stories. Throughly enjoyed this story.
I received an ARC and these are my thoughts and opinions.
Adventurous romances with lots of exciting action. Loved it!
Love, love, love this series. Hayden and Cassie's story is equally as brilliant as the others in the series. I love that they are all full stand alone books but the series is just so good! Each story is different.I love that this story is played out both on the ship and also on a new planet. The introduction of new and brilliant characters is very exciting. Loved it and can't wait for more!
FAST PACED…ACTION PACKED…DRAMA…ADVENTURE…that changes so fast that if you aren’t glued to the action you could be Speeding through the stars on reconnaissance one minute and in the next be stranded in a swamp on a hostile planet in a battle for your life! I loved the romance and the devotion of love surrounded by the violence to survive woven throughout this book!
Prisoner is the eighth book in the Raider Warlords of the Vandar and the second book in the Lost Vandars mini spinoff. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I even went back to read this book again in print. A mission gone wrong, crash landing on a planet, being captured, a hero would die trying to save his mate. This exciting story is filled with adventure, suspense and action. I highly recommend this book and series. I can't get enough of these Vandar heros and badass human women.
The universe built by the author is full of excitement and romance. Great characters. I enjoyed that the story picks up where the last one left off. While the series can be read out of order reading it in order is best because each story focuses on a new couple but builds off the last book. The connection between all the books and even the other series makes it that much more interesting. The narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life.
What a story!!!! I don´t know where this author gets her ideas from but WOW!!! The storyline and the characters and scenarios are just so fabulously fantastic that it should actually be a must to read this romance or Sci-Fi. Overall a great story!!!!
I received an ARC of this story and could not be happier to write this review.
This story was ok. The first three quarters of the book was quite slow and mundane. All the action was packed into the last quarter, and very little interaction between the two main characters until it was like wham bam mated. Don't get me wrong, it was a fine story but I live for the falling and it left me wanting.
While I liked this book, I think it could have been better. The previous book introduced Ayden as the one who was a smooth talker and good with the ladies. We didn't really see any of that in this book. Cassie's character was likeable as a shy girl who doesn't believe in herself, coming out of her shell.
I loved, loved, loved this book. I love anything Tana writes, but this went beyond the usual. Definitely couldn't put it down, and let me tell you reading with with a bowl of ravioli on my chest, and my other hand holding onto my phone and reading, and a spoon shoveling pasta, requires skill. Only a woman could do it.
Well this was fun!! I really enjoyed the relationship and character dynamic between Ayden and Cassie. I really enjoyed Ayden’s character, he was very calm, collective and confident. I am very excited to see what happens with Thea and The battle chief and obsessed Manson. I need it on audio ASAP! 🤣🥰
I can't say that the series is getting better, as it's consistently brilliant. Loved this story about Cassie and Ayden who is now acting Raas. Cassie needs to fly to the area where the Zagrith and mercenaries have allied, but in doing so, she is captured by mercenaries, along with Thea. Time for the big boys to fly into action.
I so enjoy this series, the storyline is filled with action and adventure. The characters are well written and I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
