Because I am having a blast over here…But nothing else shakes me as much as the local tattoo artist slash the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen who refuses to ink what I want on my body. The romance is dead. Is that so hard to tattoo? Only Alec Colson is determined to prove me wrong and I am not sure how long my resistance can withstand his attention…I just need to keep one thing in mind. No matter what The Romance is Dead
I love small town novels and this one sounds promising.
However, still as far along as the prologue, the MFC says that her current boyfriend of 10 years actually dated her and her sister at the same time 10 years ago and to know that after all that she uprooted her life to trot around the world in search for fame for him!! Huge Red Flag and a Spineless MFC 🤦🏻♀️
But I keep on reading.
Ok Alec Colson! Instantly love him!!! This man is hilarious 😂😂😂😂 Golden Retriever Alpha male vibe.
This town is freaking hilarious! I just want to move there already. Please somebody tell me it actually exists!!!!!
The Love hive! The meddling townsies! The 50 Questions!
It’s a rom-com that tends to exaggerate certain scenes but the outcome is tummy clenching, toe curling and laugh howling.
I have laughed and cried simultaneously so much with this novel. I loved every second of it. The whole town is on a different level of loving comedy.
The plot is so ingenious. The scheming is freakingly meticulous. The camaraderie and the loyalty between Loverly Cave Townsies are a dream. And the silly merry-go-round events are just adorable.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. Can’t wait to carry on with their adventures in Book 2.
My only 😡 moment: Her stupid stupid thoughts of the possibility of giving Brian a second chance if he texted right after he kicked her out because “what if he misses me? What if he changed?” So STUPID!!!!
That’s about it. Other than that this novel has become my top comfort book read. 🩷
Little Snippet:
MMC to ex: “That’s none of your concern, but if you’d really like to know, I am Alec, Hope’s boyfriend. I’m the alpha to her omega. The first and the last to love her. The moon to her shine. The cracker to her cheese. The grape to her wine. I can continue, but I think you get the point.””
I really wanted to like this book. When I got the original email from The Author Agency about it, it checked so many boxes for me...then I started reading it - I made it about 25% in before I finally decided to put it down... I wanted to do it after the first chapter if I'm being honest. I asked my sister what to do, I even googled if it was okay to DNF ARCs. This book has the potential to be so much better. The premise of rediscovering love after being in a shitty 10 year relationship is wonderful.
The FMC, Hope, is a very typical middle child and acts accordingly. The MMC, Alec, is an overeager caricature of the typical 'insta-love, he falls first' MMC. The bio for this book says its a slow burn, and that may be true for Hope - but Alec comes in swinging the second he sees her.
I also found too many grammar/incorrect word usages and that alone made me want to stop reading.
This was my first shot at a Daisy Thorn book. I will definitely give her another try, but this just wasn't it for me.
A quirky little Pleasantville set in a beachside town with some hilarious and silly characters.
What happens when you find out your boyfriend of 10 years is a jerk? You go back home…except home is now in a small little beach town with a lot of busy body women, your meddling but good hearted mother and one hot tattoo artist…oh plus your two sisters you haven’t seen in years who have their own life drama.
Hope returns to her family basically down and out with no plans, no future and at a real loss. When she stumbles into a tattoo shop and request a crazy one liner to be put on her body the hot tattoo artist Alec convinced her to give him a month to prove “Romance is in fact not dead.” Their relationship is fast paced, especially Alec’s side! That man is in love instantly. Almost to the point he comes on a bit too strong but you kind of just chalk it up to the whole town is full of crazy and happy in love characters. But he is determined to make Hope his woman!
This is a slow burn for sure with little hot and dirty one liners thrown in but definitely builds up the angst for when they finally get it on. Alec sure has a mouth on him. By the end of the book I was actually smiling and happy with how funny, quirky and adorable the whole town is and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Blurb: what do you do after catching your boyfriend of 10 years with someone else? you pack up and move to the small, quirky town of Loverly Cave to be near your parents. With no job, home, or plans for the future, it seems like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.
this is exactly what happens to our FMC, Hope. when she arrives in Loverly Cave, she spots a tattoo shop and gets a bright idea: she wants a tattoo that says "the romance is dead". however, the tattoo artist (and MMC), refuses, and decides to prove Hope wrong by showing her that romance is alive and well.
Review: i received this as an ARC. when i saw the blurb and tropes for this book, it sounded like it would be right up my alley. it is a bit of a slow burn, but there were some good spicy scenes and definitely some tension leading up to it. i think the idea behind it and the execution was overall well done. it did make me laugh, swoon, and all the other reactions a romcom brings out. while this wasn't particularly my favorite book of all time, i did enjoy it and i do recommend it! i can definitely see a lot of readers enjoying this one.
This book was more than I expected. Insta love can be hit or miss for me. This book though; oh, this book. I fell for the insta love, the small town and the whole vibe. Hope has gone through a break up after 10 years of idling through life. Now moving top a small albeit slightly unhinged town to be near her parents, Hope finds Romance may not be dead after all. It has been a while since a book has made me laugh out loud quite this hard. The quirky little town and its residents are full of gossip and well-meaning intrusion that pushes the story right along seamlessly. This book will be at the top of my list for anyone looking for a spicy, yet light, refreshing read.
**This is the first book in the Loverly Cave series and I cannot wait to see what is next for this cast of characters.
This book was written so well and the story had me a chokehold!
The moms in this book were one of my favorite parts because they purely did this so they could have grandkids 🤣 like you lied to get your kids to move and buy houses so they couldn't leave.
The love story- the romance - all of those dates - it wad everything! It was legit - if he wanted to, he absolutely will - and this man was consistent! Even when giving her space he was still there for her! If you needed a cute story to hit you in your feelings - this is it!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the story of Hope who has swore off relationships and moves to the VERY small town Loverly Cove, and Alec a tattoo artist who refused to do the tattoo she wanted "the romance is dead" and who promises her that he will show her the contrary of the the tattoo she asked for.
This book was truly a romantic comedy, the one you see in the movies, the one you want to read when you want to enjoy yourself a little bit, laugh about the craziness that exists in a small town and want to read something without drama :) i enjoyed it !! <3
Wow did I love this book! What an easy feel good book! Small town of LC is already my fave and all the characters sparked my interest but wow omg Alec was UH-MAZING and hope just needed a bit of hope and love to get her to realise what she needed for her life! So excited for this series
___________
TROPES: -Insta love -Small Town -Boy obsessed -He falls first -Gossip families
Hope ran away with her sister's boyfriend at age 17 and when he cheated on her, she is reunited with her family 10 years later.
She moves to her new town, Loverly, where she meets Alec, who believes that she can make her believe in her love again.
They make a deal, if he doesn't make her fall in love in a month he will tattoo "The romance is dead".
I have mixed feelings about this book. It starts from a premise that has hooked me from the first moment, although in some parts I have been a little dry.
The theme of the family seems to me that it could have been extended a little more, it needed more drama. I feel like Hope has been forgiven too quickly, like she hasn't paid enough attention to her running away from home at 17 YEARS.
Then there's Alec... just seeing her "falls in love" by Hope. A little too hasty, but I guess it's a little because he grew up in Loverly.
Which brings me to the Loverly folks… what a bunch of gossips. I really like them, the situations they put the girls in have made me laugh a lot (LOVE HIVE????). Still there are times when they get a little heavy (a lot). Like, they just got out of a relationship (I don't know if Joy's counts as one) with some bastards and as soon as they arrive they harass them...
I think it was these little things that have not allowed me to give it more stars, but even so I have enjoyed it a lot. It is one of those books that are to stop thinking, with which you can have a good time laughing at everything the characters do.
I want to preface by saying I think this book had a shitload of potential. Three sisters returning together to a new little town that their parents moved to. A meddlesome mother, all single sisters, ages 26/28/30.
Here’s where it went wrong for me:
- the introduction of the sisters in book one and how much air time they’re given, really detracts from the building of our FMC and MC in book 1. Further books won’t have that much of a focus on our FMC and MC from this book, and it just feels like a disservice. - the fact that the stories will overlap where they all meet the guys at the same time and it’s all over the same 6-8 weeks just from different POV’s; yawn. - the entire relationship was just waaaay too instalove. - I’m sorry, but writing a scene where our FMC was horny and was humping her sister’s leg when they all had to sleep in the one bed on the first night, is just WEIRD. - the dialogue throughout just didn’t feel like natural conversational dialogue. - I can absolutely get on board with a golden retriever male who falls hard and fast, and is incredibly vocal about what he wants. But the pacing and him declaring he loves her after a few weeks - my dude, you’re 30. Chill. - the whole Brian thing and “how can I trust someone”. Girl we’ve established Brian is a POS, move on. - if our FMC is telling our MC that “she doesn’t think she’s ever had an orgasm from a man before” it implies she hasn’t had one at all. If you can make yourself orgasm on your own, you know what that feels like. Ergo, you will know if a man has or hasn’t. Considering she gets herself off listening to him shower and jerk his gerk, she knows what an orgasm is. This whole scene of “I don’t know if I have” just felt weird and unnecessary, and wasn’t mentioned again.
All in all, just not my jam of a book where I’m not particularly interested in finishing the series.
Hope walks in on her boyfriend of ten years having sex with another woman. Completely hurt she runs out only to find her way to the coastal town of Loverly Cave, back to her parents and sisters she hasn’t spoken to in ten years. She meets hot surfing tattoo shop owner Alec who falls madly in love with Hope at first sight… Only Hope believes that the romance is dead…
The town of Loverly and it’s people are the most over the top but you cannot help but love them. Right from the start you get glimpses into every character’s life and after finishing this book I’m so excited to see what the other characters will go through in their books, starting with the Levine sisters!
The insta love that Alec felt was a bit much for me, but the setting of this lovely town and it’s hilarious (and tad crazy) people just made it make sense. The relationship is really fast paced but also kind of a slow burn.
Overall the story is pretty predictable but it was just such a fun summer rom-com. It takes a while but there is definitely some spice, starting with hinting one-liners going to some pretty descriptive and hot scenes!
To be honest, when I started this book, my first thought was “what in the wattpad is this?” I didn’t think the first chapter was very well written although I think it was the author’s way of making us understand the main character. Because the way she was being treated was ridiculous. It took me a bit to get into this book but once I got into it, I loved it! The writing at the beginning is why I couldn’t give it 4 stars.
Perfect summer rom com book if you’re looking for a quick read (it read so easily) to get out of a reading slump! Cannot wait for the next books!
ARC Book Review The Romance is Dead A Novel Written By Daisy Thorn Fiction- Romance Published July 17, 2023 330 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the first book in the author’s Loverly Cave Series. I can see the potential for more books in the series with several of the other characters in this first book.
This is a small beach town romantic comedy. There is a slow burn when two opposites are attracted.
There are several ways this book differs from your typical romance book. - The setting is a small beach town in California named Loverly Cave. It is a magical place where the residents are happy and bring out the best in each other. - Each chapter begins with a quote often about love. Quotes included were from Lucille Ball, Groucho Marx, Joan Crawford, and others. This was very unique. I enjoyed reading and looked forward to them at the beginning of each chapter. - The two main characters agree to play 50 questions to get to know each other better. Their questions and answers were dispersed throughout the book. Another nice touch. - I loved the banter between the two main characters, Hope and Alec. Written with dual points of view, I enjoyed the conversations Hope and Alec had with the reader.
Hope Levine returns to her parents’ home after catching her musician boyfriend of ten years cheating on her. One of the first people she meets in her parents’ new home in Loverly Cave is tattoo artist, Alec Colson. Alec has one month to prove to Hope that romance is not dead.
This is the first book in the series and first book I have read by this author. I can tell you it won't be my last reading her lighter fun reads. I laughed so much through out this book. Sometimes the characters were a little over the top, but man did it make me like them even more. This is a he falls first situation and trust me any girl would be happy to have caught Alec's eye. Hope's life for the last 10 years is nothing like she thought it would be and finding her boyfriend cheating on her was the breaking point. Now headed to Loverly Cave to see her parents for the first time in 10 years to find her feet once again. It's a little reunion for her and her sisters. Can these three put their hurts aside and find forgiveness? Hope has decided no more men, but she never counted on running into a man like Alec. Alec wants to prove to Hope romance is not dead and boy does he know what he is doing. He knows the little things matter most. Prime book boyfriend material. One of my favorite parts of the book is Alec and Jacob's friendship. True friendship goals between those two! The humor in this one was my favorite thing about this book. From Hope and her sister to Alec and Jacob, but they have nothing on the girls' mom. I highly recommend this one. When I truly needed a light fun make you laugh, but make your heart happy sigh story this was it. I got lost in the book and forgot all the things troubling me. I got lost in Loverly Cave and couldn't have been happier. I'm so looking forward to more from this series with the little teases along the way.
I was hooked from beginning to end this book had some relatable content. This book is great for ending a reading slump. I honestly can’t wait for the other sisters stories!!!!
This book is about hope’s journey out of a toxic relationship and trying to pick up the pieces. When she gets a call from her mother who she has not spoken to in 10 years. She ends up moving to their town and finding a handsome stranger who she can’t help feeling drawn to.
Alec is a tattoo artist at the town of loverly and when he first sets his eyes on hope he falls in love. Then he makes it his mission to make her believe in love again. HE IS THE STANDARDDDD!! 🥰
The way he talks is honestly 🥵😍. YOU NEEED TO READ THIS BOOK!!!! I’m kinda sad it’s over!!
The book takes places in a small town called Loverly Cave. According to the town Welcome sign - love is the answer to any question. After ending a 10 year relationship, Hope believes all romance is dead, until Alec makes a bet with her to prove that she wrong.
I love how cocking Alec is. Yes, he over confident, as in “ I’m going after what I want and nothing is going to stop me , kind of way. He is blunt and he seems like he is “Love bombing “ Hope, however he is a great guy that treats his girl like right and like like an equal partner in life.
Hope she is very relatable. She wants to find her self and not rush into a relationship. I love her bucket list and how she always battle with herself .
This was my 1st read of Daisy Theon. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Hopes’ sisters love stories.
Hope is out of a long relationship where she was treated poorly. Her mother calls and asks her to come spend some time with her family in the new town her parents call home. A small beachside town is where they all end up and Hope doesn’t believe in love. She goes to get a tattoo, where she meets Alec! Alec falls head over heels in love instantly and Hope won’t have it. He knows she’s the one for him and won’t give up. He romances her slowly while helping her fix up her new home together. Hope struggles with falling for Alec.
The small town was a lot like Gilmore girls and the meddling mothers/town was so fun! I swooned and laughed! It was such a fun read! If you’re annoyed by insta love, then you probably won’t enjoy it. I loved it and can’t wait for the next one!
Hope Levine thought she had the life - musician “boyfriend” & life in LA. Until she realized all was not what it seemed. After a bit of self deprecating depression — her sneaky loving mom calls her (& her sisters!) “home” to Loverly Cave Town.
And it’s here she meets Alec Colton - resident tattoo artist & insta-love interest! Boy when Alec falls, he falls hard & FAST for the sweet, unsure Hope.
This was a super easy, fast paced light rom-com style read. Sprinkles of spice - but nothing really to leave you blushing. IMHO - a great option for a quick palette cleanse or light hearted experience. Should be fun to see how the author works out the stories of Joy & Grace!
i absolutely loved this one and cant wait for more! Hope and Alec were the best, especially Alec! Hope moved to Loverly Cave after getting out of a super toxic relationship to be closer to her parents after running off 10 years ago. She ran into Alec as soon as she got to town when she went into his tattoo shop. He was obsessed from the moment he first saw her - he falls HARD 😍 She wants to get a tattoo that says the romance is dead and he makes a deal with her for to give him 30 days to prove her wrong and he puts in the work to show her every day how wrong she is!
this was such a sweet and fun read! I especially loved the 50 questions game they played through out the book. he cared about her so much and their chemistry was amazing!
loved this small town and the meddling mothers had me cracking up! all the friendships were perfection and the town blog was too funny 🤣 the best slow burn and cutest ending, once i started i couldnt put this down - i cant wait for the next book!
You wonder if I ate this book? I sure did, it was funny, steamy, wholesome and the tropes were so freaking good!!!
What more do I need to say than that he is a hot tattoo artist, she has just run away from her past life and decides to move to a small town to where her mother lives who she hasn't seen in 10 years. The FMMC is because of her last relationship which was very toxic very unsure of what she likes and doesn't like in her life. She never had the chance to decide on her own with her ex boyfriend.
Thankfully she then meets Alec in the small town who tries to convince her that romance is not completely deas and still exists.
Seeing the development of both characters was just so captivating. I seriously can't wait to continue reading this book series.
What a fantastic read! My first Daisy Thorn novel.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and enjoyable this was. There are quiet a few literal Laugh out Loud moments.
I really really enjoyed Alec and how happy he was. He knew EXACTLY what he wanted and wouldn’t stop trying to achieve that.
Hope needed HOPE for herself if she was going to believe in Love again. Being so broken and believing her past relationship of 10 years is how relationships work, will take time to dismantle.
There were so many amazing parts of this book. I’m so happy I read it!!
What a sweet story! Obviously not the beginning where she catches her dirty slimy ex if a boyfriend with another woman!!!! That j can do without but it leads her to go back to see her parents and sisters in a small town of loverly cave!
She has t seen them in years because of her ex… but now her mom is making her and her sisters come to visit… hope meets the tattooed surfer when she first arrives and she is taken back by how much she is affected by him and the same goes for Alec!!! It’s the instant live for him….
He needs to convince Hope that love still exists….
This is the sweetest, easy and funny romance story! Loved it and would recommend!!!
OMG, can I please have my own Alec? The way this man was head over heels for Hope the instant he saw her was amazing. I love how the author showed us how much he was all about her but also respected she needed time after her 10-year "relationship". This slow burn without a doubt had the tension. The witty banter between these two was a chef's kiss. The way Loverly is such a tight-knit community was amazing. It really showed that everyone just wanted what was best for each other, no matter what. This book is definitely a summer must-read.
Thanks to Daisy Thorn and the Author Agency for the arc in exchange for my honest review
This book was UP there for me, probably one of my favorites that I’ve read this year thus far. Personally, i love me a good romcom and this had me all up in my feels. I laughed, i swooned, i screamed hahaha. It had me loling so hard.. And the LOVEEE, wow, swoon swoon swoon!!
And let me not even start with Aleccccccc, what a man. I ATE UP EVERYTHING HE SAID. My love my loveeeeee.. And Hope, of course I loved her also. But both of them together….
Daisy Thorn has got a fan for life and this was just the first book in the series.. 🩷🩷🩷💫
The Romance is Dead is a cute, romance book set in a small town. Hope is recovering from her life blowing up after catching her boyfriend sleeping with his manager and she soon gets a call that sends her running to visit her parents in a small town.
Hope and hee sisters all end up in the same town and reviving their friendships. Hope meets Aellec on her way into town and he falls instantly, but Hope takes a little while longer to warn up to him and her feelings.
Insta love is not my favorite trope so Alec sometimes was a little much for me, but I still lived him and Hope and their story so much!
This book is your favorite romcom. The main characters are great but even the relationship with family and friends is even more hilarious all the bantering and arguing they do from the very beginning to the very end. It’s a book you can pick up and binge in a day or two. It’s also a feel good summer read. And it also is very spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5. It’s one of those books that has you laughing from the beginning and non stop. Alec the MMC well he is a total flirt and charmer and you can’t help but fall in love with him from the first chapter he is introduced. Hope well she is a character who starts out one way and ends up another at the end. Give it a chance you won’t regret it.
This book was so cute! I’m already dying for the next one in the series to come out. I loved the small quirky town and their shenanigans. But most of all I loved Alec! He is a dream man and what book boyfriends are made of 😂 At first I thought oh no I’m not going to like him, but I was wrong! I really enjoyed the stubborn main character and loved that it was dual POV. Definitely a fun little rom-com, highly recommend.
I loved this book and want to visit Loverly Cave so bad. This is a true rom com in the sense that there is no way some of this could be real, but I’m happy to disconnect from the world and pretend a place like this could exist. Hope is running from her old life while also trying to repair relationships with her family and the hot, surf boy tattoo artist in town falls in love with her at first sight? Do you need more convincing than that to read this book?
This is the first book in a new series by Daisy Thorn and I absolutely loved it!
Hope has just gotten out of a toxic relationship and has moved to Loverly Cave to reconnect with her family. Hope no longer believes in love and decides to get a tattoo that says, “Romance is Dead”. This is how she meets Alec. He falls hard and fast for her! Alec convinces her to give him a month to prove to her that romance is not in fact dead.
I was swept up in the story and fell in love with Hope and Alec! The chemistry between them was incredible and the banter was fantastic! I also adored the small beachside town of Lovely Cave and how close everyone was! This was such a fun and fast paced read! It had me swooning and laughing throughout!
