**This is not a romance!!!** With the cover and description I easily snagged this form the library shelf. I expected a novel from 1994 to maybe be outdated but I did think it was a romance. It isn't. This is about six successful women who gather weekly for dinner. Almost their own personal therapy group. Told through the POV of Rosie Brooke a locally successful stage actress. Others include a lawyer, accountant, PR person etc. While some of the dinner conversations were witty some of the women are not nice. There is a date rape situation between two (although I don't know if that term was used in 1994). The writing isn't bad but it wasn't what I was expecting. And I was stunned when it ended with Rosie going on to Hollywood and no one is a couple. Trigger warnings for: abuse, rape, infidelity, alcoholism, death of family members and drug use.

This is a terrific lesbian romance set in New Zealand in the 1990s. The women's friendships and relationships are very believable and realistic, with the perfect blend of humor and realism that makes you want to spend more time with them.
Rosie Brooke is a skilled actress who believes she will one day find true love. She is unafraid to take off her clothes onstage, but there are some things in her past that must be resolved. In the process of finding her next role and facing sexual harassment on set, she opens herself to a new chapter in her life.

I want to read about the next stage of these women's lives. Fulton is a skilled and prolific writer, so I am surprised she hasn't done so already.

Highly recommended.

Sexy and intriguing and an easy read. Dated in the way the body is talked about and criticized. Occasionally dark and shocking…and not properly addressed…

Trashy lesbian romance; good for escapism. At least it's written by a New Zealander and set in Wellington, although the Americanisms jarred.
