A good edition to the Future State. I like the manga style black and white and animie style action too. Though I would have loved to see it in colour.
The Magistrates might be incharge of Gotham, but the underworld is always the real power in Gotham. Could there be a worse time for the new/next Joker to appear. Also the Resistance will need to take a huge chance for their very survival.
The player and bosses are setup I am looking forward the battle of the Future State Gotham's soul is upcoming. The book also contains a short bonus story in colour an the actual Future State. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery.

This is messy, but not fun messy, like the plot is going a million different places messy. I was a little worried about trying to remember what happened in the previous volume, but it's not necessary.

This wouldn't be a Batman book without the Joker, would it? Unfortunately, the Next Joker is probably the least compelling part of this second volume.
There's a lot more going on in the background that's actually more interesting than the main story, the developments involving Nightwing and Damian especially. Even the true mastermind behind the Next Joker and his plan for Gotham is better than the Next Joker himself. When your main plot just isn't grabbing me, there's a problem.
The character work is much better, thankfully. Seeing Jason interact with these versions of your favourite characters leads to some fun exchanges, especially once Harley makes the scene, and Jace Fox manages to be more interesting in like four issues here than he managed in his own series in twice as many.
Future State: Gotham's second arc's subplots override its main story in terms of quality - thankfully, these subplots boil over in time for the third volume, so this one's worth getting through so you can finish off the story.

I liked this better than the first volume as it felt more focused. It's about a new but boring Joker coming on the scene and all of the Bat-Family trying to stop him. The subplots are actually more interesting than the main plot here.
Most of the art is subpar. Out of the 3 artists involved, Geoffo's had the most details. I get trying to go for a Manga look along with the black and white art. I just want more than just sketches in every panel.

I love this series.
Delivers great action. Expands on the Gotham mythos and does this well without Batman playing a central role.

Grrrr. It’s a 3.75. But it throws me off being in black and white. And the artist changed at the wrong moment taking me out.

I think this volume just reminds us that we have no idea timeline-wise how far in the future this is or if it's next week. Anyway, many Jokers.
