Now that Izumi has found happiness with Takamiya, it’s time for the other "Izumi" to do the same. Blue Boy’s number one hasn’t been doing too well lately. But with his health improving, it may be time for him to find a love all his own. His chance may come when a young man named Arashi moves next door. Will Izumi be able to find true love and bury the pain in his heart? The passion is flaming hot in this next volume of Love Mode.
CW: Sexual Assault of a child, Abuse trauma, Self loathing, Age Gap Romance
This is my favorite volume of the series so far. The way it talks about childhood sexual trauma really spoke to me. It was hard to read but made me tear up. This is also the most consensual and sweet romances of the series so far. It's still a hard manga to recommend because of the tropes that didn't age well, but I loved this.
Wow, it's been a long time since I last read this series, and the art has not aged well. I had also somehow forgotten how much of the plot tended to revolve around rape. It's all very typical '90s BL. For all of that, though, there are moments that make me remember how much I loved this series when I was younger, and Arashi's romance with Izumi was always a favorite of mine.
Because of a bike accident that caused him to miss a lot of class, Arashi should be in summer school. In trying to get out of it, he finds that he has been volunteered to do some volunteer work instead! So much for summer vacation! Oh well, what can he do? He ends up helping a 69-year-old man named Maryuma Kantaro in his home. First order of business – fix the roof!
Izumi is the number one host at Reiji’s male escort club. Recuperating at home due to some health issues, he is bothered by a persistent former member of the club. He knows members are not allowed to meet escorts in private, much less former members, but he doesn’t seem to take no for an answer. Reiji’s doctor brother is concerned, as is Reiji. At one time Izumi had feelings for the owner, but realizes he has found love with someone else. He worries that he will never be loved and accepted for who he really is.
And then a man unexpectedly drops into Izumi’s backyard – literally. Turns out, Arashi was working on Kantaro’s roof and he is Izumi’s neighbor, and Arashi lost his balance and fell. Unfortunately, he collided with Izumi and got bond in his hair! The poor man was forced to get a haircut! Appalled, Kantaro forced Arashi to go with him next door and apologize profusely to Izumi. Izumi wasn’t flustered, said he needed it anyway because of the time of year.
Arashi has to agree with the old man’s assessment that Izumi is indeed a beauty. But Arashi does something that gives him reason to think Izumi hates him, and when he goes next door to explain, he sees another man there and grows jealous, unaware that it’s just the doctor. When the unthinkable happens, and the old man ends up in the hospital, they run into each other again.
There is certainly an attraction there, but Izumi is worried that he won’t be accepted because of what he does for a living. He receives an opportunity to travel with abroad with one of his clients. Reiji says it’s strictly up to him. Izumi can’t help but think it would be best for Arashi if he were out of his life. The path of true love never does run smoothly.
We met Izumi previously, when our young Izumi was mistaken for him and thus began his relationship with Takamiya. Izumi longs for love but doesn’t believe in himself. He’s never met anyone like Arashi, who seems to genuinely like him. But Izumi believes himself to be tainted and not worthy. While I don’t like this couple as much as the first two, I do like them, and their story is very sweet. Good volume, look forward to more.
I read this when it first was released in the US many years ago, and despite loving it, I was only ever able to get the first three volumes. Now I have them all, and I'm currently bed-ridden and I decided to read through them all - rather than do schoolwork.
Okay, I have to say. I didn't originally like the "Izumi" from Blue Boy. He was just this weak, whiny character in love with Reiji who couldn't have him. But this volume brings out so much more in him. You find out why he is the way he is, the truth about his horrible past, and he finds love with a great, fun, outgoing character Arashi who is unlike any of the other characters introduced to the story so far. I like Arashi, and Izumi is slowly growing on me. This volume has some heavy moments, though, and can be heart breaking.
I don't remember reading this one at all but I must have done at some point. We get a new couple in this book the other Izumi and a new guy called Arashi.
Izumi has a really terrible past which is explained to us throughout the book but I couldn't understand why he had become an escort when he was still mentally scared from what happened to him in the past.I also found it strange that he through Arashi would find it 'dirty' that he had sex with men and even seems embarrassed when they end up in bed together.
I just wasn't buying these two as a couple and I'm glad we are switching back to the other couples in the next volume.
Good, a little cheesy like the two previous volumes (plus I never really cared for Izumi so I was iffy when I saw he was a main character this time).
2017 update: the story of Izumi and Arashi is ok, Izumi crying every other page is annoying but I'm trash for the series. I actually enjoyed the bonus material at the end more than the actual main story this time around.
2023 update: my feelings on this volume still stands. While Arashi is a great new character, Izumi (his love interest) is kind of weak, and I really do prefer the bonus material at the end.
Selain Izumi yg di vol 1, para uke di vol 2 dan 3 ini kok nasibnya malang semua... T___T But at least semuanya HEA. Anyway, ga nyangka kalo Kiichi si dokter megane itu uke. Seme-nya muncul di extra story. So, sudah ada 4 pasangan yg muncul sejauh ini.
Story about the frail number one host of B&B, Izumi--the Izumi who created the mess in vol. 1 and let vol. 1's Izumi being mistaken as a host by Takamiya.
