In the depths of an icy mountain river, I never expected to meet the man of my dreams.
All I wanted was a relaxing vacation on the river with my best friend Alice. But when a strong current rips me away from the group, capsizing my kayak in the process, I'm suddenly underwater, struggling to breathe and unable to escape.
Seconds away from drowning, I'm rescued by Chase - a hot, muscular mountain man with a gruff voice and serious disposition. With a past he's trying to run away from, a body covered in scars, and deep brown eyes that hold more secrets than I can imagine, he's everything I should avoid.
Yet when he carries me to his cabin and commands me to do as he says, I find myself irresistibly attracted to him - and it's clear he feels the same way. But with a search party out looking for me and a Sheriff he's trying to avoid, Chase has more issues to contend with than just romance.
Will Chase be able to confront his past? And am I willing to accept a life of seclusion just to stay by his side?
Mountain Man Kayak Rescue is a short, steamy, instalove romance. There’s no cheating and no cliffhanger, but there is a very happy ending.
*This book was previously published under the title Mountain Man Kayak Rescue
Grumpy mountain man living up in the mountains, hiding from the world, meet’s novice kayaker city girl who’s drowning in her kayak upside down in the river. He uses his superhuman strength and quick thinking and rapidly rescues her, but then doesn’t want to let her go. Realistic kayaking accident scenario gets five stars.
Kayak safety: Chapter one
KAYAKING
*IRL, this girl is nuts to put a novice in a kayak without being trained in a formal class on kayak safety and paddling a kayak and river safety and training (AND PRACTICE) in how to do an “Eskimo roll” with equipment including a sprayskirt that fits her and her kayak. Her friend should at the very least be trained in how to pull her sprayskirt off the kayak and exit the kayak from below if she ever gets turned over and is unable to perform an “Eskimo roll.” She is practically inviting her friend to drown. *JS... [*“IRL”=in real life; *“JS”=just saying]
My family are seasoned whitewater expert kayakers. My husband taught himself the Eskimo roll and how to kayak when we first married, then he taught me, and later on, our sons to kayak at a young age, they’ve kayaked class five whitewater rivers all over the country from the east coast to the Rocky Mountains including some of the most famous whitewater rivers: the Arkansas River in Colorado, the Nantahala River in North Carolina, the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and the Cossatot (“Skullcrusher”) in Arkansas (class 5), and their favorite “play” place close to home: the Ouachita River Whitewater Park at Rockport, Arkansas near Malvern. The most people ever killed (20***) on a flooded river in Arkansas was on the Little Missouri River at Albert Pike Campground in 2010, a place where we’ve camped out and kayaked at flood stage many times, I almost drowned there myself (years ago in a freezing cold January) in my whitewater boat back before we had children. Kayaking without experience can be deadly…
*** “…June 11, 2010, shows recreational vehicles and camper trailers strewn through a campground at the Albert Pike Recreation Area in Montgomery County after the Little Missouri river flooded before dawn that day, catching campers without warning and killing 20 people.” -Arkansas Gazette
***Most of the campers sought shelter in the bathroom at the Albert Pike campground. The river flowed over the top of the bathroom facility and their bodies were found inside after the floodwaters receded. You won’t read about this in “the Gazette”… There was no way for them to escape a flash flood that severe…
ESKIMO ROLL It is very difficult to learn how to do an “Eskimo Roll” with a real kayak (not a “sit on top”) and it takes lots of practice to be able to do one automatically without thinking using muscle memory. You cannot expect a novice to just get in a kayak and flip it on command or on instinct. You’re asking for them to drown. If you turn your boat over by accident you won’t be able to roll it back up with no training and practice. Then if you don’t know to pull your spray skirt off of the kayak, you won’t be able to exit the kayak so you drown. I know about this from experience when training to roll my kayak years ago. I haven’t ever been embarrassed to exit my boat and swim if unable to roll it.. I’d rather be alive. Even experts have to swim occasionally. Shit happens. And I’m no “pro.”
THE RESCUE Like in the story.. this description is honest and accurate and true to life. To be rescued like she will be in the next paragraph would (IRL) take superhuman strength when you’re dealing with a panicking drowning person and they’re still stuck in the boat, and the current is controlling where the boat goes. The hero is a real hero. The rescue is miraculous. Not saying that it’s not possible.
More family history I recommend everyone kayaking take a Swift Water Rescue course like my husband and boys did. They carry rescue ropes and equipment in a chest pack that can be accessed quickly in an emergency. They were MY rescuers so I never carried anything but me and my paddle, lol. Due to declining health in my old age I am no longer able to kayak as I am high risk for drowning due to vocal cord paralysis on one side with relative frequent aspiration of liquids and food into my lungs, with resulting asthma and aspiration pneumonia by history. BTW, my husband started kayaking around 1981 or 1982… over forty years ago.
Short, fast-paced story, but I loved it! Evelyn is a city girl who agrees to join her best friend and her bf on a kayaking excursión. Even though she's never been kayaking before. She runs into trouble along the way and comes across the handsome, reclusive mountain hunk Chase. He has been living on his own up in the mountains for a very long time. He has been through so much, and prefers his own company rather than dealing with the towns people. They have a pretty instant connection and Eve realizes that she doesn't want to go back to the city, she wants to stay and give things a shot with her handsome mountain man. Things really work out for these two and the get the happily ever after that they truly deserved. Especially Chase after everything he went through at such a young age. Can't wait to see what happens next with Evelyn's sister and the rest of this series as well!
Evelyn goes kayaking for the first time with friends and gets separated from them when the current is to strong. Paddling hard but no use as the kayak flips over. She struggling to right her self up and out of the water when a man grabs her up and reaches her from drowning. Chase carries her back to his cabin to warm her up and make sure she's ok. After all is said and done they enjoy each others company. He takes her into so she can reunite with her friends. Chase can't let her go. He has strong feelings for her, so he asks her to dinner. During dinner things change between them. Now three years later, the pair has never been happier together.

Evelyn is on a trip with her bestie Alice and while kayaking she almost drowns but Chase happens to be fishing nearby and rescues her and takes her to her cabin because she's about to get hypothermia. He does a very good job in warming her up if ykwim! Her friends are looking for her and think she's been missing so the next day she has to go into town, and Evelyn and Chase think that this might be where they part.
This series are a set of short steamy insta-love books, which are easy to read and quite fast to finish. They were not as interconnected as I thought (or hoped?) that they would be, but still ok to read. I have read a few books from the same author and I would read more too.

Evelyn (h) is convinced by her friend Alice to join a kayaking trip in the mountains, despite her lack of experience and nervousness. What starts as a reluctant adventure quickly becomes a fight for survival when Evelyn capsizes and nearly drowns. Just as all hope seems lost, mountain man Chase (H) comes to her rescue. Living in isolation after a tragic accident, Chase has given up on finding love—until he pulls Evelyn from the river. As they spend time together in his cabin, Evelyn and Chase connect with one another, and things heat up between the two. Evelyn has to choose between her old life or a new one with Chase in the mountains. Hot and steamy mountain man romance exploring survival, overcoming one's past, love, and the healing power of nature.
Mountain Man Kayak Rescue captivates from the first icy plunge to the sizzling romance that unfolds in the secluded mountain cabin. The author skillfully weaves a tale of unexpected love amid danger, with a heroine swept away in a river current and a rugged hero, Chase, who becomes her lifeline. The narrative is both thrilling and steamy, with a perfect blend of tension and passion. Chase's mysterious past adds depth to the story, keeping the reader hooked until the very end. This short romance is a rollercoaster of emotions, delivering a satisfying and heartwarming conclusion. A must-read for those craving a quick, intense, and ultimately uplifting love story.
I enjoyed Mountain Man Kayak Rescue Book 1 of Mountain Man Rescue. This was a short and sweet story. Evelyn gets taken by the current while kayaking and is saved by Chase. He lives in the mountains alone, running from his past. Letting Evelyn go is harder than anything but Chase has to tell her how he feels. This has a little bit sad but lots of steamy storyline and I loved the characters. I would definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to more in the series.

Evelyn starts a kayaking trip with her best friend but when currents get too strong, she flips and can not get up right again. On the verge of giving up, a hand grabs her from the water and brings her to her destiny. Chase takes care of her and her heart. Loved the characters, their backstories of grief, deep feelings and understanding, acceptance and hope. The storyline is quick with drama, danger, wonderful dog Bear, steam, big decisions and my favorite - Scrabble. The ending was perfect.

"That was incredible," she murmurs as her body relaxes beside me. "Where have you been all my life?" I chuckle and brush a strand of hair away from her face before wrapping my arms around her and kissing her tenderly. "Right here. I've been here all along, sweetheart."
I enjoyed this book. It was a sweet instalove romance. I liked both Chase and Evelyn. Chase's backstory was sad and explained a large part of who he is. Evelyn felt so connected to him. Can she take a chance and give up the life she knows for a chance to be with someone who calls to her soul? 4 stars.
This book didn’t do much for me. The author told you what the characters were thinking and how they felt, but as a reader I didn’t believe it. Such a short book didn’t allow for any type of natural emotion building, so it felt almost clinical and robotic to me. They were saying words and doing things, but no real passion was behind it. It is a very short read though, and it does have instalove and virtually no drama whatsoever if you are looking for an easy read.
Rescued by the Grumpy Mountain Man is a sweet-heat protector instalove novella. Chase lives an isolated life by choice, hurting and alone with the exception of his dog Bear. With a beautiful and caring heart, he seeks solace and peace after the trauma of his past. Evelyn is out of her depth on the mountain adventure she embarks on. She is kind and caring, but shy about speaking up for herself. When an accident throws them into each other’s orbits, the sparks fly. It’s sweet to watch them open up to each other, and I love how the author develops their connection.
Evelyn has never been kayaking before but her friend talks her into it. When a strong current gets the best of her and flips her kayak, she is close to drowning in the icy river when a mountain man, Chase, rescues her. He takes her to his cabin and cares for her. But he does have secrets from his past. Will he confide in Evelyn and ask her to stay? Or will he get her back to her friends and continue his lonely life without her?
A fantastic short read with great characters. Evelyn and Chase's story is filled with suspense, passion, friendship and more. When Chase rescues Evelyn there's an instant attraction and connection between them. Of Evelyn needs to leave so her friends don't worry. But can they actually be together as much as they want despite how little they know one another?...

Evelyn is not the outdoors type. I like that she is happy to see her friend and want to spend time together. I am happy that Chase is in the right place at the right time. Theirs is an instalove story with some action and some old drama. It is a good story.

Really Fast Read I enjoyed this book. The characters were sweet, the connection was instant, and the steam was on the page. I don’t think you can ask for more from a short story. I will keep an eye out for the next in the series.
Standalone, contemporary, instalove, mountain man/small town romance.

This was a great little story. It had a little bit of everything all rolled into one. You have the heart rending back story, the heart stopping action. The instant love and attraction that smacks of destiny. All beautifully done.
The author has given us a heartwarming story that pulls us into the lives of Evelyn and Chase. The story keeps us turning the pages with danger, connection, fear of rejection and steam.
