Grythica needs heroes. Too bad they're stuck in math class.

Tel Vana Ilvaney, only recently freed from its curse, is now under siege by the armies of the Unspoken. The only ones capable of saving the city are the Spellsworn, powerful warriors wielding the magic of the espers—and they are vanishing one by one. Something nefarious is afoot, but the defenders are too busy with battle to unearth the mystery… and too distracted to notice the sinister omens of another threat, much closer than any of them imagine.

High Lady Kortania and her star esper, Polaris, once again call on the four teenagers who changed the course of Grythican Levin, the fire-breathing demi-draconian Sunguard. Syndecai, the high-flying human Stormcaller. Calypso, the shadow elf Duskreaper who moves and strikes unseen. And Vydoniata, the sylvan Thorndancer with command over nature itself.

The four youths from Earth are eager to aid the defenders. But sometimes, victory and death come down to a roll of the dice.

Game on.

What. a. letdown.
I fell in love with the main couple in book 1, the progress of the relationship between Sawyer and Lucas was one of the main plotpoints that had me hooked to this story.
But in book two it seems their relationship fell away to some minor background story and most of this book is about Vi and Callie, whom I just don't resonate with.

The big difference I think is that the personal problems Lucas and Sawyer face are not neccessairily about themselves but about the people around them, their homesituations, family, friendship, and most certainly about each other with a healthy dosis of self acceptance.
Whereas Vi and Callie is all about self acceptance alone. It gets tidius and I found myself skipping over large parts of the book. The whole 'Woe is me, I don't know who I am, don't know what I'm doing, am I good enough' really becomes annoying. It's why I liked Lucas, whom cares about the wellbeing of others more than himself and Sawyer whom has to learn to care less about the opinions of others and choose himself more.

It's the cliffhanger at the end and the hopes that the story goes back to my OTP that I read the third book, but this one left me more frustrated than anything else.

I've always stood by the phrase: Nothing good ever comes from comfort zones. And WOW is it a good thing I branched out of my reading comfort zone with this series. I was nervous to dive in, because I was worried about being able to follow it, but I didn't have that issue at all. Book one hooked me and by the time I got to the end, I was SCREAMING for the next book--and I was not disappointed. Book two goes straight into the action and it doesn't stop. The way this author can pull you right in never ceases to amaze me! I can't wait for the next one!
