This remarkable collection of poems emerged from the poet's struggle to understand Jesus' outcry from Psalm 22, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" The poems reflect highly diverse subjects, moods, and verse forms but each is faithful to the spirit of Psalm 22, the psalm of Christ.
Poetry is difficult for me to rate. I ended up enjoying this book but did not connect with the poetry initially. There are forty poems, one for each day of lent, based on Psalm 22, as Jesus’ cry from the cross. The latter half I found more interesting, at times thought provoking at times poignant.
