A secret kept for 22 years.

Five friends had known each other since they were 11 years old. There are no secrets between them. At least it is supposed to be so. But when tragedies follow one after another one hidden secret will be revealed.

The story is told by Claudia Harper, whose life is a mess. One of her best friends is dead, her marriage is nearly destroyed, and her other friends are avoiding her.

I expected a lot more from this book as it has a high rating. But the beginning is slow, Claudia looks stupid and not like the intelligent woman that she is supposed to be. In some places there are some repetitive moments, in other places, it is not believable at all.

The most that I can give to this book are 3 stars with approximation.

Five women; pretty, privileged, perfect and ultimately protected.... but for how long....

It was "their" dark secret. For twenty-two years, "they" kept it buried. Time hasn't healed wounds. Instead, they've festered. Their actions went unpunished.... until now....

Shamed, scarred, and shunned, I watched, waited and plotted how to shatter "their" cruel hands that fateful night. Time's up. I'm here for you, Dr Claudia Harper. But first, you'll witness your childhood friends, one by one, beg for mercy.

The tension starts on the first page and slowly builds throughout. The first part of the story, the pace is on the slow side. Dr Claudia Harper's life is falling apart. Her best friend Jaz committed suicide. She goes out with a group of friends and things go from bad to worse. The story is told from Claudia's perspective. I did guess early on who was responsible for the going ons, but that took nothing away from my enjoyment of this gripping read. Everything that was taking place, made me want to read more. With murder, attempted murder, and weird events taking place, kept me turning the pages to find out more.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #DanielleRamsey for my ARC of #MyBestFriendsSecret in exchange for an honest review.

This book has a relatively vague synopsis - for a reason! We know from the title that someone’s best friend has a secret. We know from the synopsis that it involves a group of friends and something that happened 22 years prior. What you don’t know is how crazy this book is going to get…

Claudia’s best friend since childhood, Jaz, has committed suicide. They were both in a tight knit group of friends who have been together since pre-teens at boarding school. Now adults, they’ve all gone their separate ways, but have (mostly) remained in touch. It takes Jaz’s death for the remaining four to reconnect as a group, face to face.

I really can’t say much except that this is a twisted murder mystery, a moment from the past coming into the present, and one woman trying to hold it all together. Claudia has lost her best friend, her other friends are icing her out, and she’s having marital problems. Nothing seems right. When will this all make sense?

I’m giving this book 4.5 stars, rounded up, because there’s no reason not to. This doesn’t have the feel of most books that I give five stars to, but it fits in my five-star category. It was a page-turner that was suspenseful and clever to the unique ending, and I can’t think of anything I would change. There may have been a cliche here and there, but overall this was one fantastic mystery/thriller that I highly recommend!

(Thank you to Boldwood Books, Danielle Ramsay and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on November 10, 2023.)

Nice read
The story starts on a dismal note with Claudia's best friend Jas killing herself.
The other friends also come into the story as the readers are introduced to Ava, Izzie and Willow.
The story is a little slow in the first half as Claudia loses everything including her marriage.
Some of Claudia's actions at these times are a little difficult to understand and makes her whiny and unlikeable.
The second half of the story moves at a breakneck speed as new secrets keep tumbling out.
Plenty of twists and turns and a good mystery.

I read these thrillers expecting something amazing, but I know that I will figure it all out by the middle.

Claudia is a mess. Her best friend has just committed suicide, and her other four lifelong friends seem to be keeping something from her. On top of all of that, her husband seems to be also hiding something from her. He says that he didn't cheat on her while she was away, but he had bite marks and scratches on his body.

What follows is a calamity of events that would almost be humorous if they weren't so....stupid. Claudia just comes off as somewhat dim. Just lets everything happen to her, no care of herself or her things, kind of la-ti-da about everything until...well, until the last 1/4 of the book.

The secrets and the reveal are kind of obvious and I think the background could have been explored much more in-depth, but alas, these books are pumped out too rapidly.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

This was another excellent read by Danielle Ramsay. Five women who have been friends since first meeting at boarding school over 20 years ago. Each of them coming from privileged backgrounds but today they are saying their final goodbye to one of the friends. This was just the start and from here on in I was completely invested in this story. It’s tense and it’s gripping and like me you really will not know who to trust. When strange and sinister things start happening it appears someone is out to cause harm to these women. Can all the remaining four ladies be trusted or is one of them out for revenge ? There is so much happening in this book that there were points that I didn’t have time to even draw breath I was so absorbed in the story. It’s a fast paced and utterly thrilling read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.5 stars rounded up

This is one of those books where the tension grips you right from the start and only intensifies as you delve deeper into Claudia’s tumultuous life. At first, I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about Claudia as a character, but as her predicament started to spiral out of control, I found myself becoming more and more invested in her story. I couldn’t help but wonder what on earth was happening and how it would all unfold.

Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse for Claudia, the author throws in unexpected twists and turns that leave you breathless. This read had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly flipping through the pages to see what would happen next. It felt like navigating through a complex maze, with each new revelation adding another layer of intrigue and suspense.

What sets this book apart is its clever and masterful execution. The author skillfully weaves together multiple storylines and threads, creating a web of mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end. The way the plot unfolds is truly remarkable, with every piece of the puzzle fitting together perfectly.

I have to admit, this book was a real page-turner. I found myself completely absorbed in Claudia’s world, eagerly devouring each chapter to uncover the truth behind her tumultuous life. It’s a testament to the author’s talent that they were able to create such a captivating and gripping story. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you hooked from start to finish, this is definitely the one to pick up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read and review this ARC.

way too wordy

The plot of this book is ok, even if it is incredible. I jumped through much of the book because it was just so wordy. Too many details - from the furniture to the wallpaper and everything in between. Repetitive thoughts and dialogue. Claudia - the main character is hard to like and a little stupid.

Three stars down to two-and-a-half - great premise but so poorly executed and clunkily written. In desperate need of a good edit - you don’t need to use the school’s full name EVERY SINGLE TIME it’s mentioned 😂 It also became a little bit silly by the end - not for me, unfortunately!

Not Great

A very disappointing novel which thankfully I read through Amazon Prime and therefore did not waste any money buying it.
Ridiculous storyline, totally unbelievable especially the part where Claudia could see the women a distance away watching her in particular, even though the women had sunglasses on 😳 how on earth could she see where the eyes were focused behind sunglasses and a distance away.
Far far to much unnecessary description of, well everything, even down to the cats dinner. Obviously helps to pad the book out along with the repetitive sentences, how many times did Zain as her if she was alright 🙄
I don’t like to criticise an authors work but where were the proof readers and editors? This could of been so much better.

This was quite a read! Honestly, the start was pretty slow but did well in building up tension, The last few chapters though. They were PACKED with many ot twists and the secret we've been waiting for the entire book. Although it was pretty difficult to follow, I found the audiobook free on Spotify I definitely recommed this book and will check out more of Danielle Ramsay.

Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of My Best Friend’s Secret. The beginning was very sad with the way Claudia and Jacob were hurting each other with sins of omission and doing the unthinkable. It was very long getting to the point of WHY things were happening. I was so glad when it all wrapped up every question there was but it took awhile to get there. Some parts were predictable but all in all a good read, this is the second book I read by Danielle Ramsay and I will continue reading her so please keep writing.

Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.

The first part of the book was quite slow paced, but it was an interesting read. I liked the writing style and the twist in there, even if I didn't really like the Claudia, I felt sad that she's lost people cared about. I did suspect someone was the ''bad guy'' but I didn't predict the reason !

Good, if you can make it through the first half

Really struggled with the first half of this book. The main character was obnoxious in her insistence on shirking responsibility and accusing everyone of some slight against her. Perseverating on the same thing over and over, back and forth, he loves me he loves me not. Literally wrote a comment twice (Kindle) that I couldn't stand her and would stop reading if by 50% in it didn't change. It was that bad. The book did improve in the last half, though the whodunit was a bit predictable. The why was out of left field so there was no way to see it coming, which always seems to be a convenient but lazy way to wrap up a story.

First, I want to thank Danielle Ramsay, Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with your book so I may bring you this review.

OH SNAP!!! My Best Friend’s Secret by Danielle Ramsay reads like a fast paced addicting prime time soap opera filled with intense drama that is just so juicy! Highly suggest this book!

Danielle incorporates some pretty important issues and topics into her storyline that will pull your emotions all over the place!

I loved the mystery surrounding what really happened to Jaz! There were so many secrets and questions that needed to be answered. I could not put down the book until all was revealed.

One character in the book that I could not stand and found myself yelling at my Kindle was Jacob!! Oh his actions hit extremely close to home for me! Another reason to be thankful I am single!

WOW!! Never in a million years did I see this sick and twisted climatic ending happen. I was utterly speechless, jaw on the floor, and my mind was totally blown!

Claudia, Jaz, Izzy, Willow and Ava all met at boarding school and have remained friends throughout this time. But sadly we first meet them as they say a sad farewell to Jaz who took her own life.
Claudia is the narrator and she is devastated by Jaz's death and also has worries that her marriage to Jacob is on the rocks. She suspects he's had an affair and despite his protests that he hasn't been unfaithful she cannot get past it. Her life starts imploding from this point on, her friends are alienating her, her decision making is poor and her health is suffering as a result. But worse is yet to come as secrets from the past catch up with them all.
This was a great novel, a real page turner. I liked how the author portrayed the characters, To begin with I wasn't sure if I liked Claudia's character but by the middle stages I felt some sympathy towards her. The tension mounted during each chapter making this novel one of those books you cannot put down.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I felt it was slow and repetitive at times. It just seemed to drag on, and the main character seems naive.

Compelling Enough to Cost Me A Morning; but Not Worth It.

Some aspects were too incredulous and there was overreaching. Heinous acts to inspire revenge appears the theme. In the end, I was left unsatisfied and wishing for a better explanation. So much suffering and very little reward.

Long winded

I enjoyed the actual (far fetched?) story, but my God! The padding, the repetition - and the unbelievable self entitlement of the ‘heroine’ was too much. I carried on reading because I was curious about the plot but almost wish I hadn’t.
I probably won’t knowingly read anything by this author again. Not keen on their style of writing.

Predictable killer and lots of f word

The whole book you knew who the killer would likely be and that's who it was.

The f word was used a TON which wasn't really necessary.

Spoiler Alert:
The main character cheats on her husband and it does seem unlikely they would get back together with the trust issues they have, but in the book they do.

The protagonist makes weird irresponsible choices, which makes her unlikable. She is also very untrusting of her husband without reason. So many bad things are then happening to her that altogether the situation feels comical rather than tense.

Claudia’s life is falling apart. Her best friend has just committed suicide and she thinks her husband is having an affair. To make things worse, the last messages she sent to Jaz, her friend, were said when she was drunk and angry. So angry that she deleted all messages to and from Jaz on her phone and even some pictures of them together. On going out with a group of her friends she finds one seems to know something about Jaz’s suicide but won’t say what and its as if she is blaming Claudia. When Claudia drinks too much and later finds herself not in her own bed, things are going from bad to worse. It appears that everyone around her is suddenly getting at her and those she thought were her friends are falling like leaves from a tree. What is going on and who is targeting her?
This is a book where the tension begins right at the start and ramps up from then on with Claudia’s tumultuous life. Did I like Claudia? I wasn't really sure early on but her spiralling predicament grew on me and heck, I wanted to find out what on earth was happening. When you think your life couldn't get any worse…Oh boy! A read that left me reeling where there are more turns than in a maze and threads that wound and wound. A very clever premise, brilliantly executed and one I found a real page turner. Wow!

A title with the word “secret” in it always grabs my attention immediately. Especially when it’s about something your best friend has been hiding from you. That makes it even more intriguing, doesn’t it?

The blurb doesn’t reveal much, but it’s certainly appealing and intriguing enough. I love short back-cover summaries—it’s so much more fun to discover the story in the book instead of being given a handful of red flags before you’ve even started reading. So yes, I was really looking forward to diving into this one.

Did I get a good story? Absolutely.
Was it a bang–boom, high-impact story from the start? No, not at all. For me it was a slow starter, something I’m generally not a big fan of, but sometimes it’s necessary to create atmosphere and set the scene. In this case, I found it a bit repetitive at certain moments, but the ending more than made up for that when the truth finally came out.

I found the story emotional and at times very moving. It broke my heart to see how cruel some people can be—and how much they can actually enjoy that cruelty.

I understand that people want justice, or “revenge” as they often call it, but their way of going about it is definitely not the right one. It is, however, the perfect recipe for a thriller. :)

Claudia, our main character, takes it upon herself to reveal everything, and she is the axis around which the whole story turns…

I admit that the repetition annoyed me at times, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that I’m happy to give this book 4.5 stars.

Thank you.
