Final Break: A Space Opera Adventure

Rate this book
The galaxy teeters on the edge of war...

Perrin Hightower, Finley McGrath, and their allies are helping host negotiations with all three empires in the hope of avoiding full-on revolution. Engineer Jules Carver has been using her position in Perrin’s shipping company to act as a saboteur for the Obsidian Force, the revolutionary group attempting to overthrow the governments. When her ship is asked to transport colony leaders to the peace talks, she’s charged with sabotaging her own vessel to prevent them from arriving. Should be simple enough… Charismatic miner Alexei Mata never intended to become the leader of his colony world, but assassination changes people’s plans. Now, he’s the youngest delegate invited to the talks and is determined to help his people. After an unexpected attack leaves their party stranded in a remote part of space, Alexei will do whatever it takes to reach the talks—and Jules will use all her skills to stop him. But as they learn more about each other and the state of the galaxy, she begins to question her allegiance. If Alexei can convince her to switch sides, they just might have a chance to help bring lasting peace. Don’t miss the exciting conclusion to this space opera series perfect for fans of Firefly and Star Wars .

B.L. Dean grew up on a diet of Star Trek, Star Wars, and stargazing, so when she started writing books, it was no surprise that many of them were set in space. When she’s not writing, she can be found traveling, drinking tea, and watching science fiction shows. Though she lives in Texas with her husband, she remains a Southern California girl at heart.

3.75✨

I didn't really enjoy the first 150 or so pages. I'm 99% sure that it's all Jules' fault. I didn't like her for most of the book and she only grew on me slightly 😔. I discounted .25 stars because of it. the rest of the book was better though. Especially when Digger was there 😉.

Man, what a way to finish this series! There are two new main characters that drive the story, but the leads from the other three books get meaningful parts to play as the revolution threatens to break out across the galaxy. Fan favorite Digger gets some good time to shine.

Overall, this series has been so much fun. It made for a great summer read, and I encourage readers who enjoy fast-paced space opera with banter reminiscent of the best lines from Empire Strikes Back to check this out.

This last book in the Shades of Starlight series was a wonderful conclusion to the series. I was sitting on the edge of my seat as I turned each page just waiting to see what would happen next! The unusual friendship between Alexei Mata and Jules Carver served as the backbone of this book along with the saving-the-universe challenges. I would definitely recommend this book!
