Someone is stealing dragons and killing the farmers who raise them. Charl and her friends have been charged with finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. Her ability to communicate with dragons should give them an edge.
Too bad the dragons won’t cooperate.
Raging forest fires, deadly underwater creatures, and irascible dragons await in this final installment to the Hatched adventure where Charl faces her greatest fear of her destiny.
CAREN HAHN is an award-winning fantasy and suspense author best known for the Owl Creek, small town suspense series, and Hatched, a dragon adventure series. She discovered at a young age that the only thing more thrilling than reading fictional adventures was writing them herself, though it took the disruption from a global pandemic before she was driven to share her stories with the world.
Caren has a passion for writing intense stories without explicit content so they can be enjoyed by a wide audience. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.
I loved this final installment of the HATCHED series. One of my favourite aspects of Caren’s writing is that her characters are fully rounded, with devastating flaws and endearing relatability. It’s rare that a writer can get me so fully invested in the characters that my heart races when they’re in danger, and my center melts when they’re filled with joy. Usually I’m along for whatever ride an author wants to take me on, but with these books I desperately want them to have the destiny they desire. Her characters always make me feel like I’m reading about real people.
I loved the interaction with the dragons and the unfailing loyalty of all the characters for what was ultimately good and right. FMC Charl had an amazing mix of loyalty to her ancestors and their legacy, while also adapting quickly when new information came her way - something I personally admire when I encounter it. It made her character that much more relatable to me.
Don’t miss this series if you want a magical fantasy adventure!
It series started out a little rough, and the characters seemed to just move along the plot, and many things just seemed to happen for convenience, and the main character suffered from well... main character syndrome for a bit. The world was a little rough to start, yet it kept me engaged enough to finish the first, which was quite short, leaving me rather disappointed. However, the next two books were quite a bit longer and the writer started to hit their groove, and I found the excitement of the finale quite good, even if it did sometimes fall prey to the above complaints. The ending was dreadfully drawn out, but it did end on a satisfying note and it was a pretty decent series, with some interesting thoughts on magic and how it's used.
However - if I never read the phrase "dirty fangs" again it will be too soon. Vastly overused to the point of extreme annoyance.
Dragon Speaker is the final instalment of the Hatched Trilogy and takes Charl in a new direction as her ability to speak to dragon gives her a new role - and Dragon Speaker doesn't just mean she can speak to dragon, but that the dragon are increasingly recognizing her as speaking for them – well some of them. There is minimal recap, and quite a few dependences on the previous books – so not a recommended starting point.
It's a pretty good read with a happy ending drawing together plot and character threads, although plot and continuity seemed a tad stretched at times - it didn't quite work for me. Also, each instalment is longer than the last, and this one is longer than the first two books combined – although there was a midpoint that could easily have separated it into two appropriate sized and nicely packaged books. In YA terms, it is really four books, not a trilogy.
Hatched: Dragon Speaker is the third book in the Hatched series. Told from several points of view, it follows Charl and Co. as they search for dragon thieves.
Adventure, dragons, and magic!
I loved learning more about this world and its dragons and magic. I really enjoyed how the environment opened up and secrets were revealed. I especially liked hearing more about Slip and Wynne's history.
After her adventures so far, I was surprised that Charl started out so insecure and indecisive, but her journey was worth it. I found this installment more violent than previous books with threats of SA and several off-page murders in addition to the battle scenes and animal death. I found this book darker and more ominous than previous installments.
I really enjoyed this fast-paced adventure series. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Caren Hahn for providing an electronic advanced reader copy of this book.
Great series. Engaging, fun, read with believable characters I want to read more about. Kept me reading beyond my bedtime. Clean language, well edited. Hatched: Dragon Speaker is the final book and I looked forward to hearing the rest of the story. The author did not disappoint. Further development of characters, plot twists and turns kept me involved in the story and I didn’t want it to end. I am hoping the author is inspired to continue the story. I don’t want to say goodbye to Prax, Charl, Slip & Wynne. You won’t be disappointed.
After Book 2 and Charls time at court I wasn't sure how they were going to get everyone on board with finding resolution to humans and dragons coexistence. This was so much more than I expected. Prax finally tells Charl how he feels!!!!! Wynne still harbors feelings for Slip and he proves he is stronger than his addiction of fairy sand. A new character is introduced and lets just say I wanted to punch her. Dragons, Witches, and Gnomes. Warning foul language useAfterd often. Examples: Fang Sucker, Dirty Fangs, and Dragon Sucking.
I received an advanced copy of the book and the following is my honest opinion. I have enjoyed all the Hatched books, but this one was my favorite! There were plot twists and turns I didn't see coming that kept it exciting and fun to read. The story is really well written and draws you into it. I felt like I was right there with Charl and the others, laughing or crying right along with the characters. I'd definitely recommend the entire Hatched series to anyone looking for a great new read!
Super exciting! While reading I found myself wishing that the book had been divided into two or three separate books instead of the massive single volume, mostly because I felt that there were several major climaxes that deserved that status but were quickly brushed aside as the story continued on. I know it was originally published in Kindle Vella, so I'm sure it would have been tricky to divide the season into multiple books. Regardless, I really enjoyed reading this series!
Dragon Speaker was easily the best of the Hatched series. I am so happy I came across Caren Hahn and this trilogy; it has everything I've ever loved in fantasy. Dragons, adventure, magic, and a little romance, plus a hopeful and happy ending. Thank you to Caren Hahn for this series and more to look forward to in your other books!
An epic end to the series. This book literally had me looking to the skies for dragons. Caren Hahn captured many feelings and thoughts in this book. And truly makes the reader believe. Betrayal, Love, loss and more. This series has it all. One of those stories that makes you wish for more!
Dragons, sword fighting, World changing events, romance what more could you want?
This follows families and friends surviving through many dangers and battles to make a better world. Its an amazing adventure in a magical world that has been long tainted by greed and betrayal.
