As a teenager I would read as many Point Horror’s that I could get my hands on. I’d end up bingeing them all instantly.
Even though I can still vividly recall all the covers, when it comes to the plot - I’m a little hazy.
It was great to get reacquainted with these stories that formed a big part of my adolescent reading.
April Fools:
Belinda is filled with guilt after she and her friends cause a terrible accident. Two weeks later she’s asked to tutor a named Adam - whose also been involved in an accident. Surely the two can’t be connected.
Maybe not entirely original, but the suspense really works with this story.
Belinda is so convinced that someone is out to get her is really believable.
The characters are well written and with an engaging plot this is one of the better Point Horror’s.
The Waitress:
Having recently moved to the area Paula applies for a job at Dog House restaurant, she’s successful even though she lied about her waitress experience on her resume.
Someone at the restaurant takes a disliking to her and soon starts to play a series of pranks, they become more and more extreme in an effort to scare Paula.
I found this one to be slightly disappointing, the other characters motivations were weak. Even though it was a shorter than normal Point Horror, it really dragged.
The Snowman:
Heather has her head turned by an albino guy calling himself ‘Snowman’, but he might not be as perfect for her as she might think.
A really well written tight trilling story, Heather is clearly dump for cheating on her boyfriend Ben. She gets herself in an avoidable situation, so in a sense she’s only got herself to blame.
This is one of the dark stories in the series, theirs a real sense of threat in this captivating story.
One of the best Point Horrors!
