A Hint of Blue is about Bonita, a young university student with unique and brave but innocent desires. From Davota, Fiji, her destiny for some years, is bound by a tough, witty but intelligent, adorable and often humorous and at times naive, much elderly grandmother. Bonita struggles for liberation from cultural limitations. She holds a freedom's perception, usually tantamount to today's generation. Her life, she sees as limited by matters as chastity imposed on women. 'I, to be free', she says. This is a cathartic telling of her life - one which not only electrifies the readers' mind but, like an intravenous infusion, sees a calm execution of the notion that true freedom has no boundaries. It is catharsis in truest form, which a reader experiences in the teenager's adventure, laced with humor, outlandish and at times objectionable social behaviors. This novel explores a family's deceit, anger, love and laughter. Read also about a senior-aged grandmother who is constantly keeping Bonita on check, mainly in the young's rebelliousness in behavior. Mata ji is the true depiction of intelligence, mainly in older people, which is often ignored by the young of today. With extreme love, Mata ji is able to win Bonita's respect and care, time and again. Although the granddaughter seldom admits, but she is outwitted every so often by the humor and at times, deliberate misinterpretation of the younger generation's chat. Mata ji is hilarious sometimes.
