What an action packed, page turning read. Jones and Maggie’s story keep you reading till the very end. Maggie’s had a rough go the last few years and feels this story on the Cartel is her ticket to financial and personal freedom. When Jones finds her in the hands of the very cartel she’s trying to take down he and his K-9 have to rescue her. When they realize they have the same goal they start to work together. Neither can deny the attraction between them. How this all comes to a great conclusion is a wonderful read!

This book was so good!
The plot was intriguing and so well though through.
I couldn't put this down.

The book starts with Maggie, a journalist, being captured and tortured.
Maggie took pictures of the Cartel killing 10 American soldiers. And now the Cartel wants the picture before they kill her as the only witness.
Jones, a Security Agent with his K-9 partner, Gotham. A fluffy husky saves Maggie after three days being held captive.
After getting saved, Maggie and Jones has to retrieve the photos and the evidence to the heinous crimes. They drive out at dawn to find the camera film and the buried bodies.
But after digging for a while. They can't find anything. There is no sign of a crime taken place.
Is someone trying to covering this up? And who would benefit from it?
And they are still out there, hunting Maggie.
Together they get thrown in the middle of a corrupt city with a corrupt government. Trying to survive and find justice.

This book was very explicit and I was feeling all the pain Maggie had to withstand.
Even her healing process was painful to read about.
The plot of the book was fantastic! This book could easily be made into a movie. The details and twists was very well done. The writing was excellent. For being such a short book, we got a lot of world building, character explanation and character growth. I'm impressed.
Both Maggie and Jones are two scarred people. They find a safe space in each other. They both have a lot of trauma. I would say that they are definitely trauma bonding.
I do wish we got more of the cute Husky! Since a dog is on the cover and the series is literally called "New Mexico Guard Dogs". Gotham had his funny and sweet moments. We got a small cameo of two dobermans which was very cute.

Another brilliant page turner from Nichole Severn. Maggie Caddel had lost everything, she thought that she had a good marriage until her husband dropped divorce papers in her lap, not only did he divorce her but he cleared their bank account and turned her family and friends against her.
Determined not to be a victim, feisty Maggie moved town and took a job as a war correspondent for American Military News. Non of the good stories were coming her way, Maggie needed a scoop to get her into her boss's good books, what better way than snooping on Sangre por Sangre, the powerful Mexican drug cartel.........big mistake. While watching and taking picture of the horrifying actions of the cartel Maggie is discovered, she quickly hides the SD card from her camera, if she dies, the world needs to know the hideous actions of the cartel. Maggie is hauled away to be tortured within an inch of her life until............ enter ruggedly handsome Jones Driscoll and his K9 Gotham.
Jones is an operative for Socorro Securities, a team of highly trained personnel tasked with bringing down the drug cartels.
Jones childhood had been bleak, brought up in the care system the nearest to family that he had was his foster brother and Jones had gone against orders to bring his badly injured foster brother home to die with the one person who loved him, could he risk breaking the rules again to help Maggie ?
Maggie knew what she had seen, why wasn't anyone taking any notice of her, without evidence no one believed her, she was blocked at every avenue, did the cartel have inside help ? Maggie's life was in danger, the cartel needed her dead, could Jones protect her.
This exciting story twists and turns, there are so many red herrings, so many false leads, it is action packed with nail biting suspense and of course the blossoming romance between Maggie and Jones.

Maggie is a tough journalist for a small military newspaper. She is working undercover to discover the secrets of the major cartel that has taken over the area. Her goal is to write a huge tell-all series about that organization. When the book opens, Maggie has already been captured by the leader. He and his men are torturing her to find out what she knows about him and his group. When he is done, he intends to kill her. But Maggie is strong enough to endure the constant pain without revealing any of her knowledge.
Jones works for Socorro Security, a group that is made up of ex-military men and women. Their goal is to dismantle and destroy the deadly cartel. However, when he and his team enter the cartel leader’s compound, he immediately spots the severely injured hostage who is currently being tortured. Jones is immediately affected by this beautiful, severely injured woman who has bravely refused to answer any questions. Thus, instead of attacking the leader, Jones ingeniously comes up with a plan to sneak her out of the compound. He immediately takes her back to Socorro’s compound for her to heal.
Jones is so taken with Maggie and her determination to get this story, he promises to help Maggie even though it is against the rules of his security group. However, in order to do this, they must trust each other, something that is very difficult for them to do. But they realize that their goal is too important to do anything else.

Maggie Caddel lost everything because of her ex-husband, her family, friends, her job starting over she's now doing Undercover journalist work she's a war correspondant for American Military News her editer Bohdi doesn't know she's following Sangre Por Sangre Cartel to keep her job, in the wrong place she gets caught by Sosimo Toledano she calls El Captain he & his men wanting to know where the photos she took were at, brutally beaten she tells him nothing.
Jones Driscoll works for Ivy Bardot founder of the Socorro Security Company, they've been trying to take down Sosimo Toledano's Cartel.
Jones ends up saving Maggie with his K-9 Gotham, he takes her to Socorro needing medical attention, something in her makes him want to protect her, both have had traumatic pasts, both are reluctant to let their guard down to trust each other at first.

Another amazing book from Nichole Severn. This whole series has been great.
This book is Jones Driscoll's and Maggie Caddel's book and they are both fantastic characters.
Maggie is an undercover journalist whose past with an emotionally abusive ex-husband has left her hurt, but not broken, although her divorce from him has left her alone as even her family turned their backs on her because of things her charismatic ex convinced them she did.
Jones is a security agent for the Socorro Security Agency, put together with the best of the best military contractors by the Pentagon to bring down the Sangre por Sangre cartel. He's a product of his past being in the foster system. He was bent deeply when, after risking his career and his life, he was still unable to save the one person who was like family to him, his foster brother.
Maggie is taken captive by the cartel when she witnesses a brutal massacre. When they've decided they're through with her and are ready to execute her, she's "accidently" saved by Jones as he was doing another job. Maggie is tired of being abused and decides she can trust no one. After Jones saves her again and takes her to Socorro, they need to learn to trust one another so they can solve the puzzle of what's going on in the New Mexico desert and who is behind it all.
This book is full of twists and turns and lots of action, but the blossoming relationship between Jones and Maggie is so awesome. The characters are both deeply flawed, but they bring out the best in one another. An amazing HEA! You can read this as a standalone book, but why? All the books in this series have been well worth the read. I wish it could go on forever!

Maggie is not a victim, she is just a prisoner of the emotional abuse her husband spreads, and in a moment of a particularly wrong move, he unwittingly gives her an escape from its poisoned web.
But every shove from behind is also a pace ahead. She is strong and she now lives alone and abandoned by her own family, deeply wounded and her heart brutally scarred, her only goal in life trying to prove to those who wronged her and to the world that she is not beaten, that she can make it on her own. This is what makes her stubborn enough to survive unspeakable horror and to keep going against all odds, a heroine in her own right.
Jason also is not a victim, but the product of the foster system. This time the story belongs to Jones Driscoll and undercover journalist, Maggiel Caddel. When Maggie witnesses a massacre, she’s taken hostage and it’s Socorro’s operative Driscoll and his K-9, who rescue her.
But even knowing she’s in danger, Maggie will not give up. She’s had enough of being a victim and is determined to proof to the people in her past and professional life that she is strong and a capable journalist.
While trying to keep her safe, and at times , putting his job on the line, Driscoll develops feelings.
But what happens when Maggie goes too far? Will Driscoll stand by her, or will he let her go? Will they survive the danger from the cartel ? Who is behind all the evil?
This was another engaging addition to the series. The characters had depth . It was also a reminder that the experiences we have in our past, will affect us today and in the future.

Wow so good! I absolutely loved Maggie and Jones. So romantic.
Maggie after being kidnapped and tortured for three days, she is saved from execution by Security Agent, Jones and his K9 Gotham.
Full of action, fast paced and suspense that never seemed to stop. It was a great read that I honestly could not leave alone from start to finish.
Maggie and Jones were a fantastic couple, romantic but on a professional level mostly. No steam but you know that would come. Their chemistry though was so good. They played off each other and were both smart, strong individuals that didn't know they needed each other till they did.
I loved the action in this. Even the bad guys had a time that added depth to the story. And the mystery and intrigue really had you guessing.
So well written, great plot, fresh and interesting characters that help weave a brilliant book together.

This action-packed story will keep you on the edge of your seat. War correspondent Maggie has stumbled on a much bigger story than she anticipated when she started following some low-level members of the cartel Sangre por Sangre. And now, people are out to silence her before she can release the story.
When Mack rescues Maggie from the cartel, it brings back memories of what happened to his brother, and it leads him to commit to helping her recover from the beating/interrogation she suffered.
In the process of standing up to the guys who want her dead, Maggie finds that she is much braver and stronger than she gave herself credit for. And throughout the process of her recovery and learning the truth of what was going on, Maggie and Mack became closer. There was some humor sprinkled in parts of story and you can't help but be entertained by Gotham.
When Mack rescues Maggie from the cartel, it brings back memories of what happened to his brother, and it leads him to commit to helping her recover from the beating/interrogation she suffered.
In the process of standing up to the guys who want her dead, Maggie finds that she is much braver and stronger than she gave herself credit for. And throughout the process of her recovery and learning the truth of what was going on, Maggie and Mack became closer. Never a dull moment for the team at Socorro. As an independent contractor for the government they have a few perks, their own compound, their own rules, and K-9s. Ultimately they are in a war against the drug cartel Sangre por Sangre but certain individuals keep getting involved. Maggie is a reporter trying to get her reputation back by reporting on an incident involving American soldiers. Jones and his K-9 save her and commit to her cause. It’s an uphill battle for Maggie and the team is doing their best to help. What I like about Severn’s books are the strong characters, detailed action scenes and moments of humor. While the series has books with different couples the main connection is the cartel and the team’s efforts to rid them from the world. I read an early copy and leave this review voluntarily.

Poor Maggie had been maligned by her ex husband, and the part that irritated me was that her family and friends sided with him! I could see why she was going to prove them all wrong by becoming the best reporter around. She had a lot more courage than me by following and cataloguing everything the local cartel was doing that was trying to take over the New Mexico valley. The things she saw was disgusting. I don’t know how she went through all the beatings she did. I was so glad that Jones was able to save her. Jones had ghosts from his past that he had to try and get over. I’m sure Maggie was shocked when she found out something horrible that a trusted person was doing. I loved the K-9 that took such a liking to Maggie. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Maggie escaped after a cartel torture should have killed her. She was an investigative journalist who saw too much. And this is just the beginning. Jones might have blown his operation but he did save the girl.
High paced suspense with a touch of romance set in the desert of New Mexico. Dodging cartel and other soldiers while striving for the truth keeps our lead characters on the go. Oh and you can’t forget Gotham a former body retrieval dog who is by Jones side through every ambush, attack and fight. Red herrings, twists and turns keep the plot pumping along.
This book is part of a series but can be read as a complete standalone novel with hea.

High paced suspense with a touch of romance set in the desert of New Mexico. Dodging cartel and other soldiers while striving for the truth keeps our lead characters on the go. Oh and you can’t forget Gotham a former body retrieval dog who is by Jones side through every ambush, attack and fight. Red herrings, twists and turns keep the plot pumping along.
This book is part of a series but can be read as a complete standalone novel with hea.

Jones Driscoll is the latest member of Socorro Security Company to get his story. he is a former forward scout and still fulfills this function for Soccero But he blows his cover when he sees a woman being beaten by the Sosimo Toledano and his men. She is a military journalist Ivy Bardot bent on bringing the Sangre Por Sangre Cartel the same cartel that Soccero is trying to destroy. Soon Jones and Ivy are working together but danger is much closer than they realise and they will have to deal with more than just the cartel because there are political machinations at foot. Can they survive will the team keep Ivy safe and can they chip away some more of the Cartels hold on the town You will have to read to see

In K-9 Shield, Maggie takes on a cartel to get the story. She has lost so much that she has tied her self-worth into succeeding and excelling in her job. Jones rescues her, though he must give up on his mission to do so. He has issues of self-worth also after failing to save his brother. As the two work together to find out who is after Maggie and why and how the cartel is involved, they become close, but are both too stubborn or scared to loosen up on their goals to give in to their attraction. Will Jones defy his boss to keep Maggie safe? Will Maggie realize her life is worth more than the story? Will they save each other? Nichole Severn again gives us a book with no easy answers, but lots of action before the HEA.

Book 3 in this Terrific series.
I love this author's writing style.
Each book in this series gets better and better.
What's not to love K-9s dogs are love.
Each book has beautiful working dogs that not only have your back but also unconditional love.

Danger and intrigue around every corner! Book three in Nichole Severn's New Mexico Guard Dogs series uncovers more secrets surrounding Alpine Valley and has Maggie and Jones fighting to survive in a race against time. I am having a difficult time connecting with this series as a whole because of the nature of the story where a lot of the team is hands off and the bad guys are rarely interacted with, but there is a hint of danger that is always spot on and keeps me coming back.
I recommend this book if you enjoy seeing the good guys try to bring down a drug cartel and intercept the danger it brings time and again.

K-9 Shield book 3 of the New Mexico Guard Dogs series by Nichole Severn. I have to say this series is better with each new book. Maggie Caddel and Jones Driscoll are a great couple. Jones saved Maggie from the New Mexico drug cartel Sangre por Sangre. This drug cartel is savage and they don't care who they kill.
There's a surprise twist in this book. Nichole loves doing these twists to keep the readers attention. I love everything about this book especially the dog Gotham. He's a great companion and he loves Maggie.
I give this book five stars and can't wait to read the next one.

Another great addition to the series. This one starts off right in the action. As an investigative reporter Maggie will do anything to get the story including put herself right in the crosshairs of a drug cartel. Maggie is rescued by Jones and Gotham but she’s not ready to trust anyone. Gotham is so loveable and goofy! Maggie and Jones have to learn to trust one another in order to solve the mysteries that she uncovered. Trust isn’t easily given when you’ve been burned as many times as these two have. If you’re looking for suspense/action and a HEA then you should enjoy this one!

Jones and Maggie….. my heart was so invested in them! They both have been dealt more than anyone should ever have to go through! Oh and that lady has so much hidden strength! Loved her! Can they find their happy ending? I recommend this whole series!

K-9 Shield is a fantastic romantic suspense by Nichole Severn. Jones and Maggie's story is non-stop action, suspense, heat, humor and a lovable K-9 warrior make this story one you can't put down. I loved this book and look forward to my next book by Nichole Severn. K-9 Shield is book 3 in the New Mexico Guard Dogs Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

K-9 Shield is the 3rd book in the New Mexico Guard Dogs series. by Nichole Severn. I really enjoyed this book and the chemistry between Jones and Maggie was great. This story line kept me turning the pages until the very end, waiting to see what was going to happen next. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

If you like your thrill ride spiced with romance, this one is for you. Maggie is an intelligent, strong and courageous woman fighting to overcome betrayal in her past. She is no damsel in distress but everyone needs back up every now and then. Hers comes in the handsome form of Jonas and his four-legged sidekick who is quite the scene stealer. This one is fast paced and action packed culminating in a satisfying happy ending.

Socorro‘s fight against Sangre isn‘t over. And they get help from a journalist who was at the wrong place at the right time. Seeing a threat nobody has seen coming. Trying to stay alive she gets help from Jones, together they work to find the missing pieces. The New Mexico Guard Dog Series is amazing and exciting. No chance to figure anything out before the time comes the author wants us too.

This series just keep getting better and better with each book. We have Jones who can't get over his brother's death and blaming himself. Maggie whose family and friends believe her ex-husband and just wash their hands of her. This book starts out pulling at your heartstrings and has your heart racing. There's twists and turns, action, danger, and two people finding out there worth it and we can't forget Gotham.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. We’re back in Alpine Valley and the cartel‘s just about to finish off Maggie. Luckily Jones there to safe her this time - but will he be there to fervor her a second time the cartel snatches her and is about to get it done? Another great story - though I missed some previous characters. They obviously weren’t needed to tell the story, but still.
