When in Rome

Rate this book
Her reinvention comes with a mafia twist.

Giovanna

I thought I had it all. A supporting family, a loving fiance, and a baby on the way – instead, I have a fiance who slept with my sister and a family who thinks I should forgive and support them. A fresh start sounded fantastic.

My parents always laughed at my dual citizenship, but if Nonno hadn’t wanted to give me an escape route, then he wouldn’t’ve helped me get it while he renewed his own. So one cheap fixer upper in Rome later, I was on the other side of the world, having my baby in Italy with a freelance position that let me live my life.

But no good deed goes unpunished, especially if it’s for a mob boss. No matter how handsome or smooth he was, Orlando Ravenna spelled trouble.

Orlando

Giovanna Bruno is a runaway. I’ve seen the look. Haunted. Wide-eyed. She wanted to hide away, fixing up a house. Even before she saved my son, she was on my radar. Single mothers who look over their shoulders are my soft spot.

Better to keep her close. Even better if I can get my son a nanny I can control. One naive enough and decent enough that she won’t realize the power she has with my kid in her arms.

Giovanna thought she had a great life with a loving fiance and family. She loves her job where she had the freedom to work remotely and she has just learned that she is expecting. She arrives home early from her doctor's appointment to find her fiance and her sister in bed together. Angry, she packs her things and returns home to her parents. She is floored when they admit that they knew of the affair and never told her. They demand that she support her sister or leave their house. Giovanna not only leaves their house but leaves the country for Italy where she had a dual citizenship. She is determined to raise her baby on her own and to give her fiance no credit. She buys a house and is fixing it up to make her new home for her and her unborn child. After she has the baby, she is walking and meets Orlando who tells her that his baby was just kidnapped. When she spots the kidnapper and the baby, she steps in and helps rescues the baby. Orlando is thrilled and decides that she will be the perfect nanny for him, Giovanna turns him down but the two become friends and support each other. When Giovanna's ex comes around demanding custody of her child, Orlando comes to her rescue.

Orlando is a mafia don. Recently a one-night stand came to him with a new born boy claiming it was his son. Since she cheated to have the baby, he got rid of her and kept his son. He's been looking for a nanny but has had no luck. Then someone kidnaps his son. He is happy learning that Giovanna had helped rescue his son. He realizes that she is exactly the type of nanny he needed. She turns him down but they become friends. When her ex lies about her and cause her to lose her job, Orlando hires her to be his nanny and then he offers to help protect her from her ex.

Orlando and Giovanna were made for each other. This is a sweet mafia romance. As I read, I could not help but smile. Orlando made me laugh because his solution to any problem Giovanna had was "who do I have to kill" or "do you want me to kill them". LOL too funny! Giovanna's family situation was sad. I felt upset for her and felt disgusted by her family that turned their back on her. This is a sweet, sweet quick read. I do recommend.

Giovanna and Orlando

I’ve read a couple of Jess’ books now, but so far, this is my favorite! I loved the slow natural way these two came together. I’m a sucker for the instaloves, but it’s nice to read one that’s slow and natural. They became close friends first since both were gun shy from previous relationships. I also loved the fact that it was the big tough guy that didn’t want to be tied down to admit that he’d fallen in love with her first. I highly recommend this book!

When Giovanna came home early from work, she wasn't expecting what she came home to. As a result, she lost her fiancé and immediate family all in one sweep. This story had me cheering Giovanna on to finding happiness in spite the treatment of her family and I loved the payback for her fiancé that he so deserved!.
