English Heroic Legends

Rate this book
In an attempt to encourage students of Old English language and literature, the author has taken examples from heroic poetry and turned them into stories. Sources include Beowulf , The Husband's Message from the Exeter Book and runes. The second part of the book examines the original texts and extracts themes which are an endless supply of inspiration for modern storytelling.

This book is absolutely amazing.
But if you're a fan of Game of Thrones, it's extra amazing.
I'm kinda wondering if Kathleen might not have a lawsuit available.
It's all here -- the blue-eyed Others raising the Dead to fight again.
A girl who pretends to be a boy and fights rather than being a lady.
The Narrow Sea.
It's eerily similar.
But all that aside, Herbert is a MASTER storyteller and I can't recommend this book enough.
I went and bought everything this lady has ever written if that tells you anything.

This book is both educational and entertaining. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This is one that will remain on my bookshelf to read again. With all the skill of a modern scop the author had taken the fragments of heroic poetry and turned them into amazing stories for the modern reader.
