Interesting but lacking
The storyline was interesting, but lacking in all aspects. I am only giving 1 star for the interesting plot. However, the whole book was lacking and the FMC was conflicting and immature.
RH: 3 guys, 1 FMC. Witch/Wizard, other mythical and supernatural creatures.
4 reasons 4 stars were lost:
1. The biggest fault of this book is its underdevelopment. There is no world building and we are left with so many questions.
2. The second is the FMC. She is badass one moment, a weepy child the next moment then a unrealistic immature teenager the next. She says “sup”, “yeet”, and other worse immature things at the worst moment, its so cringey I skipped over the whole scene (even though it was that one scene when stuff goes down!). Then she is a polite, perfect student with the perfect quip to a bully. The next moment she is so struck with social anxiety she cries or has a weak ptsd like symptoms. The entire book she was giving me whiplash.
3. All of the scenes were underdeveloped. They ended too short and too awkwardly. For instance (little spoiler) she was kidnapped, talked immaturely, was crowned like a queen for a cult, then her mates break in, “rescue” her and go back home all WITHIN like 10 Paragraphs. No talk about what happened after the scene ended: no reflection, no changes, no information, nada. All scenes are like this, awkward, cut short, vague and overall weak.
4. All interactions between characters were awkwardly written. They were either so terrible scripted, useless (page fillers), so underdeveloped (vague interactions with no development or informative(, cut short And/Or weak. I honestly don’t think I can explain it, but you will see and understand by at least the third chapter.
I’m sure there are more reasons, but I completed the book because of the plot; Which, might I add, ended awkwardly with no information and no questions answered. I wont be reading the next book.
I will read the book again if it is rewritten and detailed and such. I apologize to the author for a bad review, but a review is necessary.

Story has potential, but unfortunately it didn't get to it.
First at all: Female main character was unlikeable, shallow, selfish and childish. She has been told to been bullied and outcast for five years, yet she speeks and thinks of "freaks and nerds" like a mean girl. She supposed to be sassy, but most of the time she was just an unkind brat.There was also unlogical stuff: For example she didn't seems to be sexually inexperienced, even though her only companion (beside her parents) has been a ghost from her age of 15. I don't expect FM: to bee virgins, but if she hasn't had any companions for years, it should has influence somehow.
Then MMC:s. oh just so dull. One sleeping with anything which moves, another doesn't have any kind of character beside being fluffy dog and one is just irritating. I almost don't blame FMC not been interested enough to actually know anything about them. She is so self-centered, that she dont't even ask anything about the guys she's around (ok exept ghost don't remember).
There was also unlogical storytelling. Like her ex-best friend was introduced in chapter 1. Yet no mentions later, not even though they supposed to be in the same school later. And also there was scenes that made me confused. Example: "Alec was right behind me, sitting on my bench... I hard ignored him which got easier once the rest of the school came in and drowned out anything he might've tried to say from across the room." I'm sorry , I got lost. was he right behind her or across the room?
And then there was a lacking plot. It could have been interesting. It was not. There was much not happening and then suddenly jumping to scenes without proper eveloping. Writing was lazy so many times: things just happens, no real build-up or progress.
I probably won't be reading next book, sorry. There however was couple moments when I smiled, I almost felt for FMC on beginning of the story and there was potential in this world. But that's not enough.

This is an amazing book to read. Not really a witch PN fan but this is the first series I’m definitely reading. It’s fun, full of surprises and will definitely pull you in til the end. I love Jasmine and the changes she goes though. Not to mention her strength, smarts and willingness to help others. I also, love that her mates are so different, but have grown close to one another in such a short time. Most of all I love their protective nature towards Jasmine and hers towards them. I’m so looking forward to the next book.

The premise behind this story was awesome and thats the most I can say about this book. I’m always looking for cool necromancer/witch books, sadly this one didn’t deliver.
There is no world building her at all. I’m serious, there is nothing. No explanations. Nada. Is this witch world in the same dimension as the human world? Is it a parallel universe? Is it just hidden behind a veil that humans can’t see? I don’t know the political workings of this place. We aren’t told anything about it, which leaves the reader floundering.
There is barely any character development. These people are all one or two dimensional. They weren’t written well at all.
I really despised the FMC. The author was trying too hard to make her snarky; she ended up making FMC an immature brat. This girl was intolerable. She was disrespectful of her parents, her grandmother, any authority at all. She would rebuff them when they tried to hug her or encourage her. She whined like a brat and cried about everything. She had the personality of an entitled 15 year old. She treated her men like garbage and they basically let her treat them however and begged for more.
I really didn’t like reading this at all. I’m giving it 2 stars because I liked the idea behind the plot. Everything else was miserable.

Really liked this book! It's been on my TBR pile for a bit, and it was the time to dive in! I'm so glad I did. This was a refreshingly fun and funny take on the pnr academy romance.
Jaz is amazing. She thought she lost her magic for years at the start of the book, but low and behold, she's just a late bloomer. Turns out she's a necromancer and the first and only of her kind in 400 years. So what's a girl to do but re-enrol in magic school to learn how to use her new magic.
Along the way, she gets a ghost, a Lycan, and a warlock as mates! I love the difference between the guys. They all bring something to the table, plus I love the fact that we have a shorter hero in Pierce - you never see a leading guy shorter than the FMC and I'm here for it (short guys need love too!)
The world-building in this is crazy good. I loved to see Elizabeth's take on a magical world and what bits to take and use. Love the fact that the Lycans and magic users are at war, so it throws in a forbidden romance aspect into things. You just know the world is going to grow and expand as the series continues.
Plus the smutty bits are on point! Pretty much a total win with this book!

Until a visit to her grandmothers unlocks her magic and now as a necromancer shes got to attend Highborn Academy. A school she went to before her magic went. An unwelcoming place for her especially now shes the only necromancer in 500 years. At least she has guardian ghost Gilbert with her. More complications come up in the form of Alec a laid-back, vaping, egotistical Warlock and Pierce an Alpha Wolf/Lycan. A great start. Just loved Jaz and her funny wise cracks and her smart mouth. A brilliant character and a brilliant book

Overall, this series was entertaining. At times I found it to be over the top. For instance, each book has minimum of one if not two or three problems. In one book, The girls switch bodies (think Freaky Friday) only to find out it’s now Jas‘s wedding day! In my opinion there’s too much s3x (and that’s saying a lot because i love smut!) but the characters do it at the most inappropriate times and also each chapter there’s a new scene. Sometimes less is more. I also found the characters to be juvenile. I am new to this author so i am unsure if it’s her writing style or if she just wrote these characters like this. I cringed every times I read “for reals” and such. Eeek.
I DO like the bit of mystery that was set up throughtout the series and also how Jas kept adding to her harem throughout to series. I wanted to cry reading what really happened to Gilbert.
The series was three stars for me.

Jaz didn't know she was a necromancer but her powers popped up. She had been kicked out of the academy at a young age when her powers didn't manifest and now she's being welcome back and she doesn't know what to think. On top of all of that there hasn't been a necromancer in quite some time. With her Ghost Buddy a warlock who has her in his sights and a werewolf they will figure out what she needs to learn.

Generously giving this 3 stars.
This is a hard book to review, as there were some parts and the unique plot that was good, but other parts that just dragged the story down. There was no real world building, which left a lot of confusion for a reader, not knowing whether to assume this world is like other Paranormal worlds or what. There's also a lot of things that just don't make sense or actually work for the story. Jaz/Jasmine is a very immature, overly dramatic, hard to like character. It's hard to place her as a 20 year old with a RH because she acts like a 15 year old too much of the time. She has a bad attitude, which makes it hard to believe the RH falls for her other than the forced "bond" they have because of the soul mate thing. The 3 guys, well, that was also confusing, as they just all assimilated to the RH aspect without much fuss, it was too easy. The whole relationship between Jaz & the 3 guys just felt a bit forced, and happened so quickly (at least for 2 of the 3 guys, since the ghost had been with her since she was 15 -I believe). The plot was the only thing that held my attention, as I wanted to see where that went. I did pick up book 2 for that reason, as well.

Necromancer books seem to be coming out in spades right now and this one was unique in its own way. This one is based in a hidden magical world from humans, though not much detail is given like if its a Harry Potter sorta separation or a pocket world or alternative universe. It starts off introducing us to Jaz Neck who surprises ends up being a NEC-romancer. She starts off as an outcast and we get to see that part of her life before things start changing as well as how it affects her when she finally gets back to Highborn Academy. Add in a few guys, some mean popular kids, and magic that hasn’t been seen in centuries. While it wasn’t quite the same caliber as the Born series, it was a cute and interesting read.

I really enjoyed this book. My first for Elizabeth but definitely not the last. The story was full of intrigue and lots of laugh out loud moments. I loved the wittiness and how the characters definitely had a spirit that you will love to read. The book had lots of adventure and I really enjoyed the unique idea and take on magic. This book reminded me of Harry Potter and that's an amazing thing. I want book 2! I want more of this story and to get lost in this beautiful magical world Elizabeth has created. Loved everything about it. Wouldn't disappoint, highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this book! The slang had me giggling at parts as did the quirkiness of the characters. This was definitely different from other RH that I've read, and the storyline was very interesting. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of little secrets that we discover as the story progresses both for the witches and the magical beasts. I also have great hopes that Jaz will come into her powers even more and be the balance that the world needs.

How does this book have a 4.3 rating?? The writing was not great and the MFC was horrible. She whined about everything and was in a constant pity party. I rolled my eyes so many times, but I made myself finish the book. I can't even right now ....
This was definitely a YA book. It's like the author began writing it with the character as a teenager and then decided to just make her 20 and throw in some random sex scenes.
I won't be continuing with the series.

There’s next to no world building and the timeline is extremely fast going from issue to issue without really explaining any detail.
The main characters all have severe mood swings, but you don’t really get to know them at all.

This was such a great read. A heroine with attitude and who at the start of the book is a witch without power. An awesome world which is so familiar, yet so not our world. A perfect blend of urban fantasy and paranormal, this book kept me riveted until I finished the book and I really can't wait to see what happens next!

The characters are their own, and I have a feeling I'm going to love them all. Good read. Loved it, will be waiting not so patiently for the next release.

This series follows necromancer Jaz Neck following the discovery of her previously thought to be non-existent magic.
Overall, I have enjoyed this series. The premise, while slightly cliche (girl discovers she is Super Special after thinking she was Normal for most of her life), was still enjoyable and made for a fun reading experience. There is plenty of humour within this series, but there is also plenty of substance and some proper gut-wrenching moments as is expected with a longer series. There are plenty of twists and turns, introductions to new characters and shifts in relationship dynamics.
My favourite thing about this series, perhaps apart from some of the humour, is how the characters interact with each other. I felt like every relationship within this series, whether it be between Jaz and her mates, siblings, friends or otherwise had depth and a story. Sometimes side characters can feel like tools to drive the plot, but I didn't feel that way with this series. Each of the side characters were likeable (or at least understandable) and were complex beings with their own thoughts, feelings and qualities. I loved reading the different interactions between any of the characters, and I felt like it really enriched the series at points were the plot might have been slower, making the series overall much more interesting to read.
I also loved that the love interests were introduced at different points in the series and developed relationships with Jaz at different paces. This is very much my preference when it comes to longer series, as I feel things can get a little boring if the mates are all introduced in book one and most of the tension is resolved halfway through the series. That being said, I do feel like some of Jaz's mates got a little more "screen time" than others. I am yet to read the last book though, so we shall see.
All in all, I found this to be a fun read without too angst. That being said, definitely check the trigger warnings because there are some more intense themes that come about in later books.

DNF @80% Good idea, poor execution. Also I hated the FMC's name - I said it, fight me.
No world building at all. We're not given any explanation of the world or descriptors of anything, really. There's supposedly a war happening but you wouldn't know it because everyone is still living in their white-picket-fenced houses, we're just told it's happening without any evidence it's happening.
No character building. All the characters are as flat as paper. We're told things as they come up like afterthought instead of giving us a clear view of who these characters are. Example, apparently the FMC found her father dead and she has trauma because of that - but we're not given that info until she see's a dead body randomly (???) and she has a quick freak out. The FMC's mood swings will give you whiplash and its almost like the author is just throwing it in for no reason. In fact, most of what happens just seems like after thoughts and no connection to the story.
For real, for real that FMC's mood swings are so sudden and weirdly placed. No lead in or out just boom one way then boom another. Not good.

This one surprised me. And in a good way. It’s a longer commitment because there are a lot of books in the series. There were a few storyline choices that I didn’t love but I’m happy with the overall series.
Yes, I recommend if you like RH and supernatural/fantasy with a bit of academy thrown in.
The harem is fun. The MFC is pretty cool overall. And the supporting characters are entertaining too.
I wish there had been more clarity on reading order and how the series overlaps with others in the shared universe. Felt like I spoiled things by not initially knowing there were other books.
Some of these reviews of book 1 are crazy harsh. I’m not saying this is an EPIC book but these 1 and 2 star reviews are really unjustified, especially compared to other books on GR that have double the ⭐️ for true rubbish. Even if you don’t love the story this should at least be praised for not be littered with typos and formatting issues like a lot of others out there 🙄 at least the author proofread or hired a good editor. In a KU world of hot mess editing, that attention deserves credit.

I loved this beginning for what I hope to be an exciting series. This book gives a background to Jaz and what she's been through. I didn't care for her mother's version of tough love, bu I liked her grandmother quite a bit. Now that she's got her magic things should be better, but nothing is ever that easy. I loved Gilbert, her ghost, the most. He is so excitable he makes me laugh. Pierce, the alpha wolf, is so chill with her and even the other guys and how he has to act at the school. Alec, is more volatile but very possessive. It really is great that they all seem to accept each other, even with the occasional digs. I guess that's what I like about it. Her kidnapping seemed to hit Alec the hardest even after she told them what it was all about. I am really excited to see what will happen with them next. I want Gilbert to be able to get his turn in the world. This can't be the end. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.

I enjoyed the storyline and I am definitely curious about what happens next. The problem I had was with the main character and her behavior at times, she tended to behave like a spoiled teenager who needed her add kicked. Sorry, but all I kept thinking was, if my children acted like that (especially with her grandmother, batty or not) someone would be feeling my wrath. I understood her resentment, but still, there were better people for her to take her anger on. Being surly is fine, not liking most people is fine also, but her bad attitude at her family was irritating. Her time would have been better suited in finding ways to out some of those hoity toity witches in their place. She got better, but the beginning of the book was hard because of the reasons I listed. I almost stopped reading, but I am glad I didn't, because I really did enjoy the storyline and I will definitely read the next book.

Short book but plot is full of potential.
Interesting word building and characters, I am intrigued by the future of FMC (Jaz, 20) who is unique in her magic abilities (the only known necromancer for hundreds of years).
I’m not a fan of fated mates because it usually means insta last and - what is even worse - insta love BUT here the relationship development felt natural enough given the circumstance. One of the men from the harem is pansexual and he periodically hits on another one but since the second one is straight (for noooow, I hope *wink wink* because there’s a promise of MM from the third book) so I enjoy watching them interact before anything could possibly happen.
Rooting for ghost man to become more corporal so that he and Jaz can be together for real 💔
Academy background and the headmaster is not a d!ck which is pleasantly surprising too! Although there’s some bullying of FMC from other people.
Definitely going to continue with the series.

What a letdown! I bought Neck-Romancer as a physical book because of how excited I was by the synopsis. I assumed I would end up collecting the entire series in paperback, which is something I do with my favorite series, even Kindle Unlimited ones. However, after how disappointing this was, I can't fathom spending money on the sequels. I see the next in the series is KU, so maybe someday, if I'm bored and curious whether it improves on the first, I may read it, but I currently don't have plans for that.
What happened to this intriguing plot? First, we have a reverse harem Harry Potter reimagining gone haywire with immature writing. Then we have characters that are barely fleshed out, if at all. Next, the FMC has one of the most grating personalities I've read in a long time.
I'm not sure how I didn't DNF this. Likely because I bought it.
At 20 years old, even when your brain isn't fully developed, I still feel like you should be making smarter choices, talking more maturely, and not constantly whining about, well, everything.
If this had been written differently, better, and with significantly more editing, it would've gotten more stars.
In the end, it got three stars because of creativity, and the spicy bits were actually good.

I have to be honest: it took me a few chapters to like this book. The fmc is not the type I could instantly click with and there were times I thought she was immature and a brat. But when the story progressed, I started to enjoy the banter between her and Alex and I even started to understand her a little better. I still think she could handle things differently, but there isn’t exactly a textbook on how to deal adequately with trauma… It’s actually quite brave to write a book about flawed people. Beside Jaz, there are things to be said about Alex and Gilbert as well, but I have a feeling that all of them together will help them become their best selfs.
This series is quite unique, mainly because of the characters but also because of the view on magic, shifters and other mythical creatures. I allready one-clicked the second book!

I would say that the plot is interesting but the thing is poorly executed. For example;
1. There is no world building at all so you just got to figure out on your own while you read which, in this case also means that there is no type of actual character development even within the FMC (I even got bothered by the mother of the fmc).
2. The FMC is portrayed as inmature one moment (child who seems that cannot take anything serious even when she’s kidnapped) and can’t take anything serious (not even in the kirky) fun way, mostly producing secondhand embarrassment.
3. There are things mentioned that feel rushed and never talk again like for example, her needing a familiar but never actually looking for one afterwards even though that it will help her with her spells.
At least its short so if you want to try your luck, go ahead but this is not a book I would recommend.

the main character acts like an 11 year old but is 20?
I wanted to read this series based on the good reviews it’s gotten but let me just say, I couldn’t get into it. I set it down hundreds of times before I finished. Why? The supposed 20 year old female main character acted like an 11 year old. Rolling eyes, sticking tongues out, blurting out rude comments to everyone and their mother, stomping around, and all around throwing tantrums. She’s supposed to be 20? In college? There was also the weird combo of her personality. A side character likes her because she’s always been nice to him but then she immaturely scoffs at him the whole book? I don’t see this off book niceness that occurred. Or how she dislike bigots but then is super prejudice herself (I couldn’t possibly like him, he’s different! Duh!)? This was more a pre-teen, middle school vibe and it threw me off.
