I think Jessie j released an autobiography to early on in her career. it's interesting, and at the time of reading it I was obsessed with Jessie J so I absolutely thought the world of it then, but now I'm not so keen so I think it was good. I gave it four stars because to a Jessie J fan it's brilliant.
I'm finding it difficult to rate and review an autobiography without feeling as though I'm judging and rating the author's actual life. I'll do my best to separate my opinions on Jessie J's personality and actual revelations from the quality of the book itself.
I have always quite liked and admired Jessie J. Her voice is incredible and seriously underrated. I think it's unfortunate that she has become somewhat less popular and widely known since her first album and the publication of Nice to Meet You, but nevertheless I enjoyed learning more about her life and journey into the music industry.
I do feel as though a lot was held back in this book. I respect Jessie's value on her own privacy (which she actually mentions a couple of times in the book itself), but this guarding was all too noticeable. The details she shares became somewhat impersonal and vague. Her stories were interesting and enlightening, but they could have been told by anybody, or shared in an in-depth magazine interview. I can imagine that this is largely a result of publicity reservations, especially with Jessie being a relatively new, up and coming artist at the time whose career was still fragile. I appreciate that there was probably a lot of urgency behind this book in order to get it published off the back of her successful debut album, but I fear that this rush was evident in the content itself.
In addition, there is an overwhelming sense that this book is targeted at readers much younger than me - evident in the tone and areas of focus. I get it. In 2012 Jessie J was all over the radio and was very much a new role model for young girls who would undoubtedly enjoy the relatively simple life exploration which Nice to Meet You offers - myself included. However, with this target audience, there is only so much I can truly enjoy and gain from an autobiography like this.
That said, I did have a nice time reading this. As someone relatively invested in celebrity culture, I love learning more about artists' backgrounds and the work that goes into the shows we see and songs we hear. I am sure Jessie J has a lot more to say and share, especially now that she has had close to ten years in the spotlight. And if she ever released another autobiographical book to express it? Yeah, I'd probably read it.
We love being delulu 😍
i bought this book when it first came out and i was obsessed with jessie j. the more i read it the more i realized this was not a person i related to, which was sad and made me decide to stop reading. all these years later i finally finished it. i still listen to the music, but i think it’s healthy to separate the art from the artist.
I thought this book would be an autobiography, but when I picked it up I could see that there were a lot of photos. It is part autobiography, but I would've liked more detail and less photos. There are some accounts of Jessica's early life and the story of her rise to fame, but with little detail. This book will probably be perfect for fans but it didn't really rise above a fan book for me. If be much more interested in a proper autobiography, as would my hubby who actually loves autobiographies and purchased this book.
Absolutely amazing! One of the best books I have ever read, couldnt put it down. Jessie is just so inspiring, talented, beautiful, respectful, down to earth and insane! I love her so much and reccomend this autobiography to anyone who feels the same way about her. If you dont like her, then dont read (but seriously get a life! Shes AMAZING) if you love her, you'll love 'Nice to Meet You'
Okay, it's not the kind of book that I often read but I ADORE Jessie J and this was a sweet a enough account of her life to this point, chatty in style and filled with gorgeous pictures. And that's all I want from a book like this :o)
Fabulous book, showing how inspirational Jessie J is! What a role model for girls, she's not trashy or focused on exposing her body. She portrays style, individuality, dedication and hard work! Good on you Jessie, proud to be a heartbeat! X x
What began as a typically boring autobiography (I was born in... Blah Blah), actually developed into a heartwarming and sometimes brutally honest insight into the troubled past of Jessica Cornish. Wonderfully readable and genuine.
Gosh - one day to read this book - says something about it. I really enjoyed it. A couple of parts were a little boring - however, overall, really enjoyed it!!
She is a very lovely lady who is a true inspiration and proof that you can get everything you've ever dreamed.! I loved reading the book and also the way it was written and layout was great!
I love Jessie J! She is such an inspirational person. After reading her book I have even more respect for her. Very talented singer songwriter. Interesting read.
I picked this book up because it was on sale and I'm a casual fan of Jessie. This book was really surprisingly insightful. The whole book is written by Jessie and she talks about many aspects of her life. She also includes fun little sections like Jessie's makeup tips or Jessie's shoot schedule. It's quite personal, lovely for other casual fans like me! It made me want to go and listen to all her other songs as she describes them in the book, some with her thought process and ideas behind them when creating it. Overall a great read!
Absolutely love Jessie J and to see what she went through with her illnesses and childhood bullying for her to come above all of that and be the successful, powerful woman that she is, is utterly amazing!
One of not many that stayed true to herself, her family and her fans after she became famous. She is caring and honest. It is nice quick memoir that shows a bit more of Jessie J.
