Samantha Cook was a forensic scientist. Her life had been dedicated to examine, scrutinize and form theories. She had just been on the phone with Lucas, her boyfriend whom was a news director. He had been screaming at her to run to the bathroom and get into the tub.

When she wakes up her first thoughts are that she is dreaming. She is sore and feels as though she has a sunburn. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself in a jail cell wearing a slip and underwear, nothing more.

Uncannily published in 1995, the story is reminiscent of 9/11, only six years ahead of its time. It is the story of two women that do the unthinkable; they switch places in time. Sam goes back to the fateful day of Pearl Harbor in 1941. And finds herself in jail facing charges of working as a spy.

Valerie Herrick was the daughter of no-nonsense Colonel Ethan Herrick. A dutiful child, she let her father rule her life. No man was good enough for her according to her parent. That is, until he was found murdered and she was accused of the act. Her last thoughts were being to taken to jail. The next thing she knows if she has lost her memory in a place that is foreign to her. In 1995.

Surprising well-written, this is the story of four people. It is a time-travel adventure with some mild suspense. It is impossible not to like Sam and Joseph Mercer, the stern F.B.I. agent who 'grills' her. You feel like you are in 1941.

And then there is sweet but confused Valerie Herrick. Lucas is determined to find out what happened to Sam but he also wants to help Valerie. And scarier still, he feels drawn to her but doesn't understand why.

The author did a good job of creating an illusion with historic elements. I 'fell' into the story. At times, I felt right along side of Sam when she was trying to prove she was from the future. As with all time-travel stories, you have to suspend your disbelief. Don't think too much or it will boggle your mind.

This is an under-appreciated romance with some refreshing ideas. The times, 1941 and 1995, flipped back and forth within each chapter but I had no problem with this. Sit back, be willing to stretch your imagination and venture a new experience.

3.5 rounded up to 4. Decent time-travel with MFC from 1995 switching places with woman from 1941. It's centered around military espionage, murder, and the start of WWII - from the perspective of a time traveling crime scene consultant. Didn't knock my socks off, but held my attention.
