When a woman is mutilated and murdered steps from her home, Dahlia Sabin is thrust into the middle of a territorial vampire war with a target on her back and an assassin on her trail. When a 500-year-old vampire ninja assassin is unleashed on the city to claim Dahlia's head, she has to convince the men in her life to work together before Midnight Ash and her group of assassins can claim their prize. But being in love with the most powerful and charismatic vampire in the state incites animosity and jealousy as Dahlia sinks deeper into the werewolf Pack, becoming entangled with its Beta. In her race to uncover the plot behind Midnight Ash, Dahlia is confronted with old arguments, forgotten traumas, and a new complication in the cogent and all tempting Pack Alpha. As she's driven further into the supernatural world, Dahlia is torn between the vampire she loves and the primal pull of the Pack. This is the second book in the 'Blushing Death' series. I'm still enjoying these novels although I am hoping it doesn't become a sex laden free-for-all like the broken record of Laurel Hamilton...

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Pool of Crimson is a kind of book that has a little bit of everything in it. It has action, humor, romance and it gives out a good thrill. The plot was pretty good (I have always loved reading about vampires). I loved how the world the book was set in not only involved vampires but also had werewolfs, demons and ghosts. The plot, in my opinion, was very good developed, the story didn't jump around and their weren't many confusions. To me the only confusion was "Smarmy", I couldn't figure who/what he was....

Dahlia was an awesome character. I loved how bad-ass but at the same time vulnerable she can be. I also liked that she acted real, her character just felt real. She got scared, she cried, she had a fucked up past and memories she can't but wants to forget. I loved her story. The only thing that annoyed me at times is her going back and forth between Ethan and Patrick, it confused me to the point where I honestly couldn't predict who she will choose. Just to put it out there I was definitely Team Patrick! Ethan just annoyed me to death with his " I need to obey" thing. Patrick was just H-O-T (well he was more cold in a sense, since he is technically dead, but you know what I mean) He is just I guy I always would feel attracted to, you know a bad boy type(+vampire) I can't resist that feature. His remarks and conversations with Dahlia were just amazing, and hilarious, makes you want to just go to the parts of the book were its only them. Plus their relationship was H-O-T ! That car scene...oh god...

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, definitely would have to check out the rest of the series! The plot an characters and romance, everything was there. If you like to read about vampires, love triangles, some kick-ass action, you should definitely check this book out!

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Pool of Crimson is a fast-paced urban fantasy full of action and intrigue. Ms. Sabol wastes no time, jumping right into the plot from the first page. It's apparent from the beginning that Dahlia is one tough cookie, and her snarkiness is quite amusing.

The story is filled with paranormal creatures: vampires, werewolves, and demons to name a few. Dahlia is a vampire hunter in a world where few people believe they exist. The story is dark, as is Dahlia's past. I can't really get into it without spoilers, so I think I'll just leave it at that.

The plot was action-packed since Dahlia seemed to find trouble everywhere she goes. There were times when I thought the pacing dragged, typically during long descriptions. But it always picked up again with a new twist or turn to keep me reading.

I always enjoy an intriguing paranormal read, especially around Halloween. If you like kickass heroines with attitude fighting supernatural baddies, then check out Pool of Crimson.

This book completely redeemed this series in my eyes. I was fairly unhappy with the previous book. It was full of too many unhappy instances, too stressful, and full of too much angst to make it an enjoyable read.

Although this one was a bit repetitive in terms of the other books, and by this I mean general plot line, it introduced a lot of new characters including a fresh setting. In terms of plot, it was pretty much in line with the series, keeping up plenty of action with a mystery/solving backdrop. This is where I find the repetitive element. It’s lots of kickup stuff, with the heroine still discovering her “special” elements, and that in itself is an ongoing scenario that’s getting a bit tired.

In spite of all these elements, this is still a good arse-kicking book.

---------------------------------------------------

So what this comes down to for me is that I don't get it. I don't get any of it. I don't get why Danny and Patrick are okay with a girl who just jerks them around and has no problem with showing affection to one in front of the other. I don't get why Dahlia feels the need to fuck basically every guy she comes into contact with. But that's okay, because Danny is dead now and I'm sure that Dean will suddenly fill that void for werewolf penis that she seems to crave. I don't get why Midnight Ash (with the most ridiculous faux-Japanese name I've ever seen, Middonaitoshoo Asshu) is after this girl--I know nothing special about her until the very end where suddenly I learn that she can see auras or something, and then suddenly she's insanely important. I don't get why werewolves were protecting her when it was the vampires who were after her--what do the werewolves care? I don't get why Midnight Ash was hired in the first place to kill Dahlia, because all I know about her for the vast majority of the book is that she kills supernatural beings sometimes. Nevermind WHY she kills them, or what she defines as "bad behavior"--I don't really get why she was trained to kill, but whatever. I also don't understand the emotions--there's so many things that don't make sense. She's so worried about everything she's balled up in a towel crying, only to be inexplicably horny not even two seconds later. Apparently everything turns her on. I don't get how the dreams work, I guess vampires can invade dreams? Or only Midnight Ash can, because she's special? I don't get who the wolf is supposed to be, although it's heavily implied that it is Dean, but that just raises more questions because how the hell did Dean get in her dream?

Oh, and I have no idea how she lives on a day to day basis. Practically almost every other page has her shivering with need, or feeling hot emotion pool in her belly, or gooseflesh rippling on her arms, or Patrick's power licking her skin, or smells invading her nostrils. I'm going to flip to a random page and see what I find, ready go: hahaha. Okay, so nothing (at least for this example) on the page I immediately flipped to, but the next page: "I ached with arousal, tingling in my core, as I grew warm and wet between my thighs like a badge of shame" (158). So Dahlia gets wet from someone telling her to "stay put". Let's try another page: her gut tightened, but not what I'm looking for. Ah! There we go, page 118: "...his power radiating out from him in a warm rush of air." Or how about this, on the same page: "His voice was soft and intimate against my skin as his hand brushed my cheekbone." Or this, which starts on 118 and ends on 119: "Patrick stepped up behind me, his cool power like a comforting familiar wind, wrapping around me and seeping deep into my bones." Let's go to 120, with "my chest tightened" or "no matter how much it turned my stomach" and "heat flushed my cheeks" and finally "making my body tighten low in my belly and my skin flush as warmth surged through me". That is literally all in one page. And that's how the entire book is.

I bookmarked this page because it was the perfect representation of why I didn't like this book:
Dean glared at Jackson and Kurt with intense olive-green eyes. As he turned those eyes to me, that voice that was me and not me all at the same time whispered softly through my mind, safe...warm...home. The push of his power tingled along my skin and gooseflesh ran across my skin but I locked the tightening in my gut away. His power was scorching hot, burning my flesh like the sun on a hot August day, whirling around me and filling my nostrils with the heavy scent of musk and woods in the humid summertime. His power was heavy but welcoming, caressing my skin as if it had fingers and could reach out and touch me.

I stood my ground, squaring my shoulders as his power became more forceful, heavier, pressing down on my shoulders with weight and burning my skin. He'd take anything less as a sign of weakness. I couldn't have that.

I met his deep olive-green eyes for only a second and then dropped them to his chin. I wasn't exactly a direct challenge but I didn't shy away either. Patrick would be so proud.

Do you see what I mean right there? All the constant weird things happening in her body, and the excessive similes, and the repetition? How in the span of three paragraphs I was told twice what color Dean's eyes were? That's how the whole book is.

Plus, she's pissed with "white hot rage" nearly all the time. I don't know how she's not exhausted when her only emotions are horny, angry, and scared-but-not-scared-because-I-can't-be-scared-in-front-of-supernatural-beings. She only ever cries one tear, too. Noticed that one about three or four times.

The similes should have been the death of me. See above, before I finally got too lazy and stopped writing down any phrase I came across that started with "like".

Also, all the sashaying. Apparently Dahlia needs to show off the goods all the time and strut and sashay everywhere. Also, she "snaps" at people quite a bit. She's also scared out of her mind and yet blocking her fear at the same time in one paragraph, that happened.

AND WHAT IS WITH THE VOICES IN HER HEAD. THIS IS NEVER EXPLAINED. BUT APPARENTLY THERE'S A LITTLE PERSON TRAPPED IN HER HEAD AND HER ONLY CONTRIBUTION IS TO GO "mine" WITH WEREWOLVES. HOW DOES THAT MOVE THE PLOT!?

Maybe some of my friends will want to read it. Even if I didn't enjoy it, someone else might.

---------------------------------

Forgot to mention she gets magic powers from accidentally swallowing her dead werewolf boyfriend's heart piece. So there's that.

3.75 stars. It took me a little while to get into this book, but by the end I was interested in reading more in this series. If you love urban fantasy with a hard-edged female protagonist, you will probably like this book--particularly if you also like that she's interested in several men (and involved with them) at the same time.

At first, this book felt a bit too similar to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series to me, but it is definitely its own animal. The author has good story-telling instincts, and the book is never dull. There are a number of plot points that aren't fully explored, but since this is an ongoing series, it's to be expected that there will be some open issues to resolve in later books. And there is a very yummy, enigmatic alpha male werewolf named Dean that I hope we learn more about in later books.

If you go into this book expecting a lot of romance, be warned that this isn't a traditional HEA romance series. There is certainly plenty of romantic involvement and some steamy sex, but it's not your typical boy-meets-girl and they fall happily in love book. It's more like girl-meets-vampire, girl-meets-werewolf, girl-meets-other-werewolf... you get the idea.

The main reason I didn't give this book a solid four stars is the lack of editing, which is a shame, because this writer has a publisher who should have provided an editor. There were many strange and obvious mistakes that kept kicking me out of the story and that took away some of the fun of the reading experience. For example: "Kurt was smaller, stalky like a block of cement..." ("stocky" -- and the same mistake is repeated later in the book). Here's another: "A line of scantily clad women and quaffed guys..." (should be "coiffed" but even that's not quite right on its own). There were also a lot of garbled sentences and annoying or amusing repetitions, such as "...comforting like a heavy comforter." The number of mistakes was high enough (and annoying enough) that I considered setting this book down several times, but I'm glad I persisted with it.

Lack of editing aside, the overall story was good enough to mostly overcome this drawback. With proper editing, this book could have really shined.

Dahlia just needed to get away from Columbus and regroup from everything that had happened to her recently. Finding herself in Las Vegas she's just trying to be, but when her cousins best friend goes missing under mysterious circumstances she finds herself back in a situation where The Blushing Death is needed.

Wolves and vampires are just the beginning of what she finds and as she unravels the mystery she finds not only herself, but more people who need her back to 100% asap.

At the beginning of this one Dahlia is a bit broken. When her best friend died it toppled her already fragile self that Dannys death had caused. As she starts investigating we see her start to find herself again and understand her purpose and that there are people who not only need her, but want her too. You see a more fragile side to her and it makes you want to see her get back to herself again and back to her guys.

In the first chapters, I wasn't sure if I could finish the story-- the author's valiantly waves the flag of my pet peeve-- the dreaded "that." But, I liked the synopsis, so I stuck it out. Good thing I did, I was soon so engrossed in the story, I was able to overlook well, you know-- that. There were a few inconsistencies - most notably at one point the author talks about the first time someone realizes Dahlia sees ghosts (a female), then later she talks about her mom being the first to realize she sees ghosts while baking). On the whole, I enjoyed the storyline and will look forward to more of the series.

I was actually disappointed with this novel. I really like the series, and it’s the not writing, I found it too much like Anita Blake, and it just didn’t go where I wanted it to.

The love interest scenario dragged on and didn’t feel like it make any further inroads from the last novel. I felt like nothing happened in the entire story.

I wasn’t happy with the ending, as nothing was resolved, and on the whole it left me completely unsatisfied. I’m truly unsure whether I will go on to the next novel in the series.

I really enjoyed this and I'm hoping it doesn't become too cliched. There's already several vampire/supernatural books that have the kick-arse thing happening and rich vampires...

Disclaimer: I won this book from the author.

I liked this book. The supporting characters have their own personalities. The story is good. The danger to the main character seemed real. For a first book in a series, there are many unanswered questions: Why is Dahlia able to see ghosts? How did she escape the mental hospital? If she has no idea what she is, how does she know about silver and why did she decide to kill vampires? For someone who plans her outfits around how many weapons she can conceal beneath her clothes, why does she repeatedly forget she is armed? My only concern is a threatened love triangle. I would like to read more books in the series.

I can confidently say, do not underestimate this Pool of Crimsonby Suzanne M. Sabolbecause once it gets under your skin, it manages to bury itself there creating an unquenchable thirst for MORE....... Once I began reading Dahlia's Story I was quickly hooked, no matter what I was doing during my normal day to day life, I had to find time to carry on reading. Squeezing in as much time as possible with stolen moments here and stolen moments there I still found myself sat up at night hungering for more as Dahlia's life unfolded in the pages before me, I could not soak it all up fast enough.

Dahlia is a Vampire Hunter and a pretty darn good one at that, that is until she finds herself thrust further into the world of Vampires than she likes after killing a messenger from another faction and recovering an amulet. The amulet holds power that could change the course of history and the local Master Vampire, Ethan wants the amulet, but he doesn't just want the amulet, unbeknown to Dahlia for his wicked plan to work, he wants and needs her too. She meets Patrick at an art gallery on her "night off" and instantly knows he is a Vampire, but there is just something about him that calls to her.....Something deep inside her delights at his scent, his nearness, but she pushes all of that down, he's a Vampire for F*@k's sake!! Killing Vampires are her business, not fantasising about them!

Try as she might to stay away from him, he follows her, even when she goes out on a date! She does everything she can to try and get him off her mind!! In between all of this hot, liquid lusting, raw sexual tension, Dahlia is trying to discover the ring of Vampires who are running rampant around the city dropping bodies. Using her womanly wiles she scores herself a ticket to one of the parties, enabling her to find out more than she bargained for. Getting herself caught in a room with a hungry Vampire is not what she was expecting but this is what she trains for, this is who she is.....The Blushing Death and this is who the Vampire ultimately meets before suffering his final death.

Dahlia doesn't know she is The Blushing Death but as the book progresses she learns the truth about who she is and why she gravitates towards trouble, she is the warrior made to snuff out the darkness that threatens the light! As the novel progresses we see her evolve as a warrior and it is very empowering to read the plots that twist and turn, some upon themselves that eventually lead to the big reveal at the end.......

Patrick knows he has to keep his eye on the woman they believe to be the Blushing Death, but what he didn't expect was for her to be so stunning! During his long years on this earth he has taken many lovers but not in a long time, Dahlia stirs something within him, something deep and primeval. No matter how he achieves it, he must make Dahlia his! Sexy, handsome and tall with rock hard abs and a body made for sin, this Vampire is delicious making him one hot, hot specimen that you will drool over! He is also not who he seems - Arrogant yet polite, deadly yet delicate this man, this Vampire is everything and everyone rolled into one - An Easy Contender for A Book BoyFriend!!

Ethan has plans for Dahlia, he wants her, her wants her blood, he wants her in all her glory as The Blushing Death. This puts Patrick in a precarious position as he is Ethan's second in command and must do as he orders, can he fight this? Can he do everything in his power to ensure that Dahlia becomes his and not Ethans? The tricks he lays before her within the plot are ingenious, and exceptionally clever! Undertones within the entire novel ensure that Dahlia is right where she is supposed to be when she is supposed to be, the only thing uncertain is the outcome, and no one could foresee what actually happens! Trust me it is well worth waiting for!

Can Dahlia defeat Ethan whilst beating him at his own games, or will she succum to the darkness within? Wil Patrick manage to get Dahlia off his mind and follow Ethan's orders for her to be his, or will he defy him and make Dahlia his? Too much is at stake, the walls are closing in on them all and one way or another in the end it will come down to The Blushing Death and her spilt blood.

I enjoyed this book so much I ended up buying MIDNIGHT ASH #2, then straight onto SLIVER OF SILVER #3, GOLDEN ANIDAE #4 and then finally BLACK DALLIANCES #5.I'm waiting on #6!! You will NOT regret reading POOL OF CRIMSON #1 (BLUSHING DEATH SERIES), it will whisk you away on a journey where you will meet some amazing characters, feel some heart wrenching moments, feel your heart soar and also feel complete anger at certain injustices, THAT is how good this series is! You will feel each and every moment, laugh and cry with each and every character - Suzanne Sabol has excelled herself within these novels and I for one cannot wait to read more, and I can give all of my thanks to reading Pool of Crimson #1 (Blushing Death Series) for my now anticipation and fascination of the entire series and how it continues!

5 STARS ***** Without Question!

*Received book in exchange for honest review for blog tour.*

Where the hell has Suzanne Sabol been hiding? I sat down to read this book and was immediately sucked in. There is no gradually getting into this book. It starts out smack in the middle of action and never really slows down from there. This is an awesome start to a paranormal romance series with an urban fantasy kickass feel. If you are a fan of Kelley Armstrong, Jeaniene Frost, Laurrell K Hamilton, or Kim Harrison, you will absolutely LOVE this series just as much if not more. Seriously, Suzanne has a knack for telling a story with great detail and should be sitting right up there next to those well known authors. And to top it off, there are already five books out in this series so there is NO WAITING to gobble them all down! Buy them all and sit and have a marathon read of The Blushing Death series!

I absolutely loved this book. Strong, kickass, ghost whisperer, female vampire hunter Dahlia, aka The Blushing Death to those she chased after, takes her job seriously. She's so busy kicking ass and taking names later that she brings more attention to herself than she ever planned. The norm for her is working, hunting vamps, and watching over her best friend, Amblan. Which I kind of have a small qualm with. You believe that Amblan is going to be a big character in the beginning with it stating that Dahlia checks on her daily and they are so close, but that's not the case. She's mentioned a couple of times, but then she disappears from the story as if Dahlia just forgot about her. Dahlia ends up hanging out with Jade, a woman she meets at witchy/voodoo/new age spiritual shop who has an amazing talent for research and digging up info for just about anything or anyone. The two of them work together to bring down Master Vamp Ethan. In the process Dahlia tries to stay away from enigmatic vamp Patrick. He pushes buttons in her that get her engines revving that she forgot she had and is also ashamed about because he's a vampire and she kills them. He can't have any kind of control over her or she won't be able to do her job, at least that's what she tells herself. Her and Jade run into some trouble and end up having an accident. On the scene, emt hotty Danny hits on her and asks her out on a date. She accepts but later realizes the reason why she doesn't date when she sees Patrick while they are out and he watches them the whole time. Fearful that she has brought danger to Danny, but alpha enough to stake her claim and say hell no, she fights with herself on whether to let him be or continue dating him. Then she realizes that he is hiding secrets too and she refuses to walk away until she knows the truth. Thru all of this, Dahlia is on the hunt trying to determine exactly what Master Ethan is up to and why he is doing it and what the hell she has to do with any of it. It seems as though when all the shit has hit the fan that Dahlia is in way over her head. She's always been one who can hold her own and the scene that plays out at the end is a testament to her strength.

This story will take you through one twisty turn after another constantly revealing new info or foreshadowing what will happen next. Pick up this story you won't want to put it down I promise you that.

Pool of Crimson is an urban fantasy…and everything I like in my books! Suzanne M. Sabol really did it for me with this book. Dahlia is another one of those kick ass chicks that I enjoy to read about. A lone vampire hunter in Columbus, Ohio, Dahlia knows there are things that go bump in the night, even if she cannot spread the word to anyone else. Dahlia palms a talisman off of a vampire in a fight, not knowing that what she holds is the key to a huge plot contrived by the Ethan, the Master Vampire, to raise a demon…and take over the city. On the way to find out exactly what the talisman is and what it means, Dahlia meets Jade, a rich girl with the knowledge that Dahlia needs, but the naiveté that monsters don’t exist. Dahlia meets her match in Ethan’s second in command, Patrick. Dahlia wants nothing to do with a vampire, but Patrick wants her…and her body wants him. Throw in a werewolf hottie and his pack and you have the makings of a supernatural free-for-all. Not that Dahlia is an ordinary girl, she has a dark past, horrid childhood memories, and a well full of power that she does not know how to tap. Dahlia isn’t exactly human, but then again, she doesn’t know what she is.

Pool of Crimson rocked my world. It is as simple as that. I am a big fan of Kim Harrison and the like and I think Pool of Crimson and the rest of the series when it comes out has the potential to be right up there on my list of faves. I enjoy kick ass heriones and their sidekicks and you can’t beat a book full of the supernatural. The quirky characters and the sarcastic byplay between them just made the book. I love the character interaction and how the book almost feels real, because you feel like you have made new friends because you get to know and like them so much. Don’t forget the steamy sex and the give-me-shivers action between Dahlia and the male characters. Wow! I also liked that every vampire was not super sexy. It made it more real. I can’t wait for the next installment in this wonderful book. I am extremely curious to find out just what is going on in Dahlia’s world. All-in-all this book is not to be missed. I give this book 5 stars because I loved it…and it is my kinda book!

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for the author where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the book: (Or my favorite parts)

“Damn, you look good enough to fuck,” she said with a playful smile. “You know I’d let you but I don’t want you to get too attached,” I teased. (Byplay between Dahlia and one of her girl friends)

“I never knew how alluring a dangerous woman could be.”

“She was Hispanic, with dark penetrating eyes that met mine with a naughty smile, like she knew what I tasted like without my panties.” (I so know that is not a quote but I absolutely love stuff that I don’t expect and that line dropped my jaw and stuck with me!)

I liked it, I really liked it!!! Dahlia our stunning spitfire killing machine in this book was born with some very special talents. She can see ghost, but that’s not all she can also feel power, magic and other wordly creatures. In her pursuits to rid the world of evil vamps and goons alike she has a run in with a very dark and deliciously deadly vampire named Patrick. This meeting sets off a series of events that lead Dahlia into a bigger more sinister plan in the works and soon she has to trust the one person she thought she never could both with her life and her heart.

This book has some great elements. I am an avid reader of the paranormal fantasy genre and sometimes things get old or repetitive. I didn’t feel that way with this book. I loved Dahlia’s tough and hardcore attitude, she literally didn’t take crap from anyone and she not only kept fighting when all the odds were against her but she did it with a vengeance. I loved her strength, and I loved that she was a match for Patrick both in her ferocity and desire. These two make a very powerful pair. Patrick is a no nonsense vampire who doesn’t waste time in his endeavors, he goes after what he wants without hesitation and I loved the pride that gleamed from him when it came to Dahlia. He never treated her like she was weak, he saw her as an equal from the beginning and it just intensified his desire for her AND holy guacamole if he isn’t just as HAWT as they come.

The storytelling in this book is great, I loved the plot and the inclusion of the demon factors it gave this book more spunk and made the story thrilling. The writing was also filled with some awesome sarcasm and wit from almost all the characters. Dahlia’s character is a constant source of entertaining banter even in the face of death she still maintained her sarcasm and it was quite the scene. I also loved the nicknames in the book. Dahlia’s character has a tendency to name people she meets based on their appearance and the vibes they give off. Smarmy is by far one of the funniest name I have ever heard used in a book.
My only discord with the book is that it didn’t seem to provide enough background on how certain supernaturals were friends with each other which I would have liked to learn and I hope Sabol touches on in the next book in the series. This book has just about all you need in a good paranormal; hot supernatural beings, a kick-ass heroine, intense passion, some awesome action scenes and some magical mystery. A genuinely good exciting read!

I admit that I’m a sucker for urban fantasy and can’t get enough of it. That being said, there’s such a glutton of awful books in this genre that I have had to police myself so as to not waste my time; hence, if the first two chapters drag, I call it quits.

This book, however, starts with a bang. Almost immediately, the readers are plunged into a scene of Dahlia’s everyday life, where the paranormal crudely interrupts and disrupts her attempts to live a normal life, and we are soon introduced to the wonderful smorgasbord of lively characters—from the hot and enigmatic Patrick (who else could pull off sexy and “virile” with “red silk pajama pants”?), to Smarmy (who probably used up much of the world’s grease), dangerously beautiful Ebony, innocent but surprisingly devious Jade, the tortured Danny, the efficiently evil Ethan…and so on.

The author’s ability to deliver charged, ping-pong banter of quips between Dahlia and the other characters, the steady dispersal of Dahlia’s dark humor, inner thoughts, and multiply-layered struggles—normality vs paranormal, control vs rage, lingering childhood trauma, and desire--also enables the readers to relate to her main character—especially when one realizes that she has to reign this all in when she shows up at her “normal” job at the office (though if you ask me, academic and office politics may be just as deadly as vampire politics). Which brings me to my one criticism, or perhaps I should call it my wish: more insights into her office life. I would love to see her take-charge attitude portrayed in her everyday office job. In any case, bravo to Suzanne for bringing a new kick-ass heroine into the genre and for setting the scene in Columbus, Ohio. Now, I don’t know if I could stroll down High Street without thinking about Dahlia and all the scary creatures that roam in the night.

My favorite lines:
“He looked like sin standing in the doorway. I held back the grunt of approval lodged in the back of my throat.”

“You’re not really dressed for a fight, sweetheart,” he cooed... I wanted to hear it again. What the hell?...I didn’t like that he was the one who made me feel wanted, feel normal. I’d beat that need out of him and out of me, too, even if it killed me.”

“An hour wasn’t enough time to make the transformation to gorgeous. It just wasn’t.”

"A Pool of Crimson" by Suzanne M. Sabol

My Thoughts.....

"A Pool of Crimson" which was the first in The Blushing Death series was quite a attention grabber that will keep you turning the pages. If you like werewolf's, vampires, demons, ghost, magic and spirits you have come to the right place for a good paranormal read with some even some mystery and adventure. Be ready for a fast paced read that will take off with the heroine Dahlia who was a vampire hunter[with magical powers] after visiting a gallery feels the need to withdraw her stake. Now why was that and what will happen after an event happens and she finds the 'amulet?' Dahlia is trying to discover the ring of Vampires who are running rampant around the city dropping bodies. Well, you will have to pick up this urban fantasy to find out what that is about in this good read. I will say that Dahlia is one 'kick-butt' alpha hardcore female that had some unusual characteristics that most of the supernaturals were definitely afraid of.

Will Dahlia be able to find out why Ethan...the master vampire wants to raise 'Aheiman' a demon from hell? Along with all of that Dahlia seems to be intrigued about the masters second in command [vampire] and also a paramedic who was a enforcer[werewolf] which will eventually lead her into their politics and territorial wars.

The big question for Dahlia was why were these supernaturals intrigued with her? What will happen when Dahlia find out that she is called? ...well I will stop here! Be ready for many twist and turns that will come about in this well told story as we meet some real interesting characters [Dahlia, Jade, Danny, Patrick, Candace, Smarmy, Dominique,Ethan, Ebony Goddess] that were found to be well developed and portrayed. I don't want to leave out those nicknames that the heroine used that were down right funny that did bring a little humor to the read.

So, if you are looking for some vivid characters with great interactions, twist and turns, mystery, humor, danger, passion and oh yes some violence then you have come to the right place for a good dark urban fantasy read.

- 4 Pool of Crimson Stars -

Pool of Crimson is book one in The Blushing Death series by Suzanne M. Sabol. This is my first experience with this author and WOW she pulled me in. Do not underestimate this book, because once you get into it you will not be able to put it down. We have a verity of supernatural creatures, a love triangle, and loads of kick ass action.

Dahlia is a kick ass chick that is something more. What? We don't know yet. She knows there is more out there then what regular humans know. Patrick isa vampire, Ethan’s second, and must do what his master bids, but when he runs into Dahlia the game changes. Then throw in Danny a werewolf hottie, his pack, and you have a supernatural free-for-all.

This book starts off with a bang and does not slow down. We have a mystery to solve and evil to kill. Dahlia wants to be normal, but she is far from it and we see right off that the supernatural world disrupts her attempts at a regular life. The author introduces us to a verity of great characters and byplay between them that is fun and enjoyable. Then we have the steamy sex and action between Dahlia and the male characters. Though I’m not a fan of the love triangle only time will tell how this plays out. I enjoy reading about a kick ass heroine and wonderful characters that I can dive into and let real life vanish. I liked the verity of supernaturals, the conflict, the characters, and action. All of it was enjoyable.

Pool of Crimson was a fun adventure to read. For those that like urban fantasy, I suggest giving this one a try. Great plot, characters, and romance. I plan on checking out the rest of this series!

Vampires, werewolves, demons and one lethal vampire killer, The Blushing Death equals one amazing and dark tale from Suzanne M. Sabol titled Pool of Crimson. Dahlia Sabin trusts no one, her life is lonely and she deals with the dark side of life, the part that normal people believe is all myth. She is The Blushing Death. When she discovers a demon is about to be raised by the Master Vampire in town, she becomes determined to stop him, but time is not on her side and she never expected the Master’s second-in-command to prove to be a danger to her heart, as well as her life. Is Patrick being honest about his feelings or is he an agent of evil, in search of the powers she possesses for his master?

Suzanne M. Sabol can write dark paranormal intrigue and romance. With powerful villains, a feisty heroine who knows how to take care of herself, well, except for her confusing romantic attractions, and a plot that flows with the tension and action, like a river rapids, this is an excellent fantasy read. No one was perfect, no one was completely evil, but even with some slightly blurred lines, each twist and turn made this ride a wonderful from start to the unknown finish! Ms. Sabol doesn’t’ ease us into her world, she drops us in from at least 30 stories above, so when you land, get ready for the action, the steam and the conflict to come barreling right at you!

Dahlia is intrigued by the vampire she just met. Meet Patrick this sexy dark eyed dark hair vampire who wants to know Dahlia more and he will. Who is he and why does she feel such a pull towards him? His dark sexy eyes made her hesitate. She liked his attention more than she should.

Dahlia is one tough women fighting vampires to save humans. This is her life. She has always been affected by them she can feel them, their magic and she is able to see ghosts. I am not sure what Dahlia is, I mean we know she fights vampires but she also has magic within her. We find this out when she kills a vampire and takes the talisman she found on her. She has no idea what she has discovered. She stumbles upon a plot after finding the talisman and this plot involves the “The Blushing Death” who is this Blushing Death you ask? It’s Dahlia. She finds out while eavesdropping on a conversation among some powerful vampires. What are they up to? Why do they need her? Why do they need this talisman?

Meet Danny (love the werewolves) he is the hot sexy werewolf that Dahlia meets. Danny is a paramedic who she meets after her car accident after being chased by vampires. He walked right up to her in the hospital and asked her out which she agreed to do. She is attracted to Danny and vice versa.

So she is attracted to Danny and her body wants Patrick. Oh my my what a dilemma for Dahlia. My two favorites wolf and vampire….kinda wishing I was a part of this story I could take one for the team! *lol kidding. Anyway, this story was very very good. I liked the flow of the story and this author jumped right into it no slow build up which was fine with me I love lots of action. I really like Dahlia and I really love Patrick and Danny as well. Oh wait I forgot Jade!! Jade is Dahlia’s friend and she is pretty cool too, I think there is more to her and hopefully we find out more about her in the next book!! Happy reading!!

It seems that attempting to have a life away or even a moment to enjoy a gallery opening is an impossible feat for the scourge of the vampire community and Dahlia is not called The Blushing Death for nothing. Pool of Crimson opens up with Dahlia at the gallery when vampy vibes caress her neck, her hand reaches down and she inconspicuously withdraws the stake . . . and we're off on one delightful urban fantasy romp with nonstop action, vampires, shifters, and demons Oh My!

We are introduced to a wonderful cast of characters that are really well crafted with plenty of twists and turns, disappointments, and triumph. The world building is so realistic that frankly I will be peaking down the adjacent alleyways prior to entering an event in the future just to make sure there are no baddies lurking there. I have to admit that Pool of Crimson offers and delivered everything my little urban fantasy loving heart could desire with plenty of kick heine action, a savvy no-nonsense heroine, and could there be lurve or perhaps some heated smexy feels in the wings.

This is not a new book and I wonder where it has been, as it certainly has not gotten the UF Fan attention it deserves. In fact I enjoyed it so much I hopped over and picked up book two Midnight Ash and am looking forward to Dahlia's next adventure; from what I could find in my research there are at least five books in the series currently available so no waiting to keep the journey going. I would definitely recommend this book to urban fantasy fans that enjoy plenty of action, a smart savvy heroine, and deliciously bad baddies all rolled into a well crafted tale. I received this book with a request for my honest review without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book.

*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Dahlia Sabin is the vampire hunter that helps protect the people of Columbus from the undead lurking in her city. While she is pretty good at her job, known as The Blushing Death by those who are afraid of her, it is a pretty lonely occupation. One night she begins to uncover a plot to raise a demon from hell by the Master Vampire of Columbus, Ethan. From that moment one Dahlia is in a race against the vampires in order to try and stop Ethan from succeeding. Along the way she meets Danny, who turns out to be a werewolf, and realizes the plot is more than just raising the demon. Besides Danny she also meets Patrick, a vampire, who she finds herself attracted to, which goes against almost everything she knows.

This is the first book that I have read by Suzanne M. Sabol and I do not think it will be the last. I really enjoyed reading Dahlia’s story, it reminded me a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (a show I loved). The plot was pretty fast paced, and it kept you wanting to read more at the end of every chapter. It also had a little bit of everything; action, romance and humor. I am not going to lie, the book did make me laugh a couple of times, mostly due to the nicknames that Dahlia gave to the vampires.

In terms of the characters I liked how they developed throughout the story. Dahlia was a strong woman who was not going to take crap from anyone, and in that same respect so was Jade. I liked Danny I thought he was a sweetheart, and Patrick took a little while to get used too, I wanted to punch him in the face a couple of times.

Overall I enjoyed the story and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Dahlia in her next adventure, Midnight Ash.

Dahlia is becoming more and more imersed in a world she used to only be on the fringes of. She's in love with Patrick, she's her feeling for Danny are making lines blured, and then there's Dean the pack leader and her confusing feelings when he's around.

Everyone is waiting for something to happen so when word comes there's an ancient assassin after Dahlia those around her are determined to protect her, no matter how much it annoys her. The Midnight Ash is a more deadly foe than she's faced before and it'll take all Dahlia's skills to find her and kill her. When Ash strikes too close to home for comfort tensions run tighter than ever and you never know what will snap when it all comes to a head.

Dahlia might be "just a human" but she's the toughest chick in the crowd no matter what anyone thinks. She got reasons for everything she does and won't let anyone desuade her when she's determined. She's all sass and smartass and I'm loveing her character the more I read of her.

Boys will be boys all circling around her trying to find their piece of her, ans watching as Dahlia tries to balance them all along with everything else she's got going on you just wanna applaud her for the amount of restrain she uses and considering she's a loose cannon to begin with that's saying something.

This series is getting more interesting I'm excited to see more of it!

Pool of Crimson
By Suzanne M. Sabol
Dahlia is a kick butt vampire slayer. She has magical powers that she doesn’t know or understand. Her own family didn’t understand her and her childhood trauma impacts her to this day. But when she falls for a vampire and a werewolf, she quickly becomes enmeshed in the politics and territorial wars.
Ms. Sabol writes about Ohio, my home state, and I loved being able to identify and put a picture to the places she describes. You can take the girl out of Ohio but not Ohio out of the girl.
Dahlia is the character I wish I was… with her knives and guns, she jumps in without looking and worrying about the mess afterward. I can see why she was drawn to both of the heroes in the book but there’s more than just a love affair brewing here. These men are dangerous to her heart but also to her life.
Pool of Crimson is sure to be a favorite of Patricia Biggs fan’s as well as Eileen Wilks. Ms. Sabol creates a supernatural world filled with all the supes you can find and makes them “real people” with emotions and shades of black and white.
Pool of Crimson is the first in the Blushing Death series and one I highly recommend.

Dahlia's life hasn't ben the easiest and with her side job of killing vampires she doesn't have allot of friends. And dating, yeah right when does she have the time? Finding a vampire she can't seem to kill wasn't supposed to be in the cards, but for some reason there's something about Patrick she can't seem to keep away from. As she fights her feelings for the vamp, in comes Danny who seems life the perfect guy until secrets come out. And at the same time Dahlia also finds herself uncovering something sinister that master vampire Ethan is up to. Life isn't always easy, but it certainly keeps things interesting for Dahlia.

Dahlia is no shrinking violet, she's a touch kick butt aplha female who isn't about to let anyone tell her what to do. She's fierce and determined when she puts her mind to something and won't let anyone or anything get in the way.

This story takes you on her journey as she finds a mystery she needs to solve before it causes havock, and you see her juggling life while she's at it. I enjoyed the story and am excited to continue reading this series to see what happens next in Dahlia's world.
