Race Against Time #2. THE Scotland, where an ancient castle houses up-to-date horror - and a lethal loch harbors a monstrous menace from the Nazi past.THE Young scientist Annie Mackenzie fights alongside Stephen Lane and his Uncle Richard Duffy against the forces Jonathan Fell - the "death merchant" who's crazy as a fox, deadly as a rattlesnake, and inhuman in his ambition to rule the world... or destroy it.
Continuing on my journey from the past, I just finished reading this 2nd book in the "Race Against Time" series by J.J. Fortune and found myself smiling from ear to ear with enjoyment. This time, our story finds Stephen Lane and his Uncle Richard fighting sinister forces holed up in a castle in Scotland along with an ill-tempered raven and a weapons dealer with intentions of world domination. Aided by the help of a marine biologist named Annie MacKenzie, Stephen and Richard find themselves in another race against time - to foil the plot of an evil mastermind and still return home to New York before Stephen's parents do.
"Escape From Raven Castle" was a much better entry into the series than the first book, "Revenge In The Silent Tomb". The writing was better, the story flowed more smoothly, and the villain was much more believable, even though he was quite mad. I also liked the setting of the dark, foreboding castle set against the dead waters of a loch much more. A chemistry is starting to build now between Stephen and his uncle, and their interactions are more natural. And his prompt to always "Move it!" is sort of becoming Uncle Richard's own little catch phrase. I hope this is a good sign of things yet to come further into this series that I once read (and have forgotten about) as a kid living in the 80's.
A solid 4 stars! So much fun, and a recommend to anyone who enjoys a fun, spirited adventurous romp. So far, this one is my favorite one.
I remember it had Nazis in it and based in Scotland. All these Race Against Time Books were fantastic fun and very exciting. I recorded myself reading this one and the first one back when I was maybe 13, 14.
