When her Arkansas town enforced integration, white reporters came to her home to interview her mama, who had bravely kept her children in school. Mama spoke her mind in perfect English and didnt put up with people mistreating her family. Mistreatment from Daddy was another matter. Neglect and callousness from this relationship continued the chill that froze Wandas future relationships. Colored Cold gives a chilling account of poverty, abuse, and compounded consequences from poor choices. Although most of her wisdom came through difficult experiences, Wanda refused to succumb and strengthened her resolve. This revealing autobiography shares one womans heartache from broken promises and painful relationships.

Hard book to read-the reason for the stars. So sad-the conditions families are reared in. Much abuse, bad choices, family hurts. It's a difficult read, and sadly depicts the upbringing on poor families in the south. We all just want to be loved.
