The creator of the successful FLAPPY Bright and playful, these are the question-and-response games that toddlers demand to have read and re-read over and over again. Amanda Leslie's lift-the-flaps create scores of humorous and improbable situations-just the kind to which children will want to shout "Noooo!" and then supply the right answer. The format gently but effectively expands vocabulary and reinforces the association of adjectives with a host of animals. Very attractively priced, sporting sturdy hardcover bindings, and all-around friendly: this pair of titles is a keeper!
This was a huge hit with my storytime audience. This book asks an obviously wrong question - accompanied by a bright simple illustration. My small listeners caught on right away and by the time we got to page two were yelling "NO!" to the question amid giggles and then supplying the correct answer as I lifted the flap For example, question: "Do mice quack?" picture of confused mouse. Kids yell "NO!" Lift the flap while asking who does? and they all see and say, "A Duck!" Great fun for all ages.
Leslie's lift-the-flap books are great. I used Do Crocodiles Moo? as a participation story for a cat-themed bilingual story time program. In this book, the children are asked whether an animal makes a certain sound, such as if crocodiles moo, and it's so much fun to hear the kids call out "Nooo!" and then give the correct answer. It's also fun to have the kids make the animal sounds.
