The Princess, the Dragon and the Frog Prince

Rate this book
This is a collection of connected stories:
* The Birthday Gift, by Elisabeth Waters
* Dragon in Distress, by Mercedes Lackey & Elisabeth Waters
* The Dragon's Horde, by Elisabeth Waters & Raul S. Reyes
* A Prince Among Frogs, by Elisabeth Waters

The story arc started when Princess Rowena's sorceress aunt gave her a fourteenth-birthday gift that could truly be described as enchanting, which impelled Rowena to leave home and take refuge with a dragon. Then things really spiraled out of control, dragging in Tarma and Kethry, a pregnant mercenary (and being carried off by a dragon while suffering from morning sickness is not a fun experience), and a rather clueless prince. And after tangling with Rowena, the prince needed a witch to rescue him.

I really enjoyed this novella.

There were only four stories in it, but each one of them segued nicely into the next, and kept the plotline flowing wonderfully.

The first story: The Birthday gift, tells of a Princess who, on her fourteenth birthday, is gifted with an unusual gift by her Mage Aunt. Every time that she speaks, gems and flowers drip from her mouth. The trouble is, that this was something she wasn't happy with, and so she ran away to see if a dragon who lived in nearby mountains could help her.

The second story: Dragon in Distress, tells how the Princess was kidnapped from her new home with the dragon, by a Prince, and how two characters, Tarma and Kethry, are compelled by a spell, to go to the dragon's world, through a gate from their own world, in order to rescue her.

The third story,: The Dragon's Horde, tells how the dragon hires a mercenary band, to help protect the Princess from her brother, who is now King, and who wants his own hired mercenary group to kidnap her, so he can offer her to a land-hungry Baron, who is threatening to kill him, and take over his land.

The fourth story: A Prince Among Frogs, tells how the Prince, who had first kidnapped the Princess, ends up as a frog, in a world like ours, and how a witch saves him from a terrible fate.

These are amusing stories, and I enjoyed them a lot.

Cute Version of Dragon and Princess

I liked the first story best, the one that introduces the dragon and the princess. It was an interesting take on a fairy tale. Although I like Tarma and Kethry stories, I wasn’t sure how I felt about them “traveling” to another world. I didn’t like the third dragon and Princess Rowena story as much as the first one. Since the story about the frog prince from the second one did not include the dragon or the princess, it was a little unexpected.

I would give it 3 1/2 stars.

Good book

Cute...too short! But, I liked how all the stories tied in to each other. It really was a fun little book.

First two stories were the best, IMO. Although I was glad to know what happened to the Prince from the 2nd story.

A sequence of short stories that link into one larger tale, each written by someone different. Enchanting albeit a little simplistic.
