The Wedding Date

Rate this book
In The Wedding Date, Cara Connelly launches her new Save the Date series, about the magic—and mayhem—of weddings!

Julie Marone isn't your ordinary matchmaker. Instead of setting up singles, she matches already-happy couples with their dream homes. And since she lost the other half of her own happy couple, it's her passion.

Cody Brown isn't your ordinary cowboy. Instead of roping runaway steers, he wrangles sick kids and strung-out junkies as an ER doc. And since his brother lost his wife to a drunk driver, it's his mission.

When Cody moves from Austin to Boston, he wants Julie to find him a condo. But not only is Cody single, he's a doctor, and ever since her fiancé died, she's got a major grudge against doctors.

Cody angles to be Julie's date for her sister's Christmas Eve wedding but discovers that her "no doctors" rule is unbending. Still, he's not quitting. If Cody has his way, they'll be a couple by Christmas, and the next dream house Julie finds will be their own.

ARC provided by publisher through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Cody Brown needs a new place to live since he's just moved to Boston from Texas and Julie Marone is a realtor. The problem is, Julie only finds homes for couples and she doesn't like doctors. Cody isn't in a relationship and he's a doctor. This starts of a series of events that bring the two of them together over the next several days before Christmas and Julie's sister, Amelia's wedding.

Cody Brown is a Texas boy thru and thru. And when his six foot two inches of tawny hair and carmel eyes walked into Julie's place of business, he was surprised to find a woman who wasn't impressed by him being a doctor and seemingly immune to his charms. Women seemed to fall all over themselves when he disclosed he was a doctor, but Julie closed down. Cody wanted to know why and the more he got t know her the more he was intrigued.

description

Julie couldn't understand her immediate attraction to the cowboy inappropriately dressed for a Boston winter. She hadn't felt anything and didn't want to for the past three years since David died. And the on thing that should certainly keep her from liking Cody, was that he was a doctor.

description

But everything conspires to throw them together, from her visions to her sister inviting Cody over for family dinner. Even the weather...

description

Soon, Julie's defenses are down and Cody sneaks in to steal her heart. After three years is it time for Julie to let someone in and a doctor at that.

This was a cute story. I liked the idea of it and it was executed both well and quickly. There were parts that were laugh out loud funny and would cause me to tear up from laughing so hard. Cute Christmas love story.

LOVED IT! *does the happy dance* I found a new author I love yaa! 11/12/13

I love, love, love this novella. I’m also super excited to find a new author that that has more to read coming out very soon. This book was sexy as hell and sad and heartbreaking, too. Although, shorter in length, this novella packs quite an emotional punch!

Cody. The Texas cowboy transplanted to Boston. Whoa mama! I think I may be adding him to my book boyfriend list. Jeans, boots and a beaten up leather jacket…now we’re talkin.’ Julie’s sister sets her up on a couple of blind dates and once Julie meets Cody, those poor guys don’t have a chance. The drawl? Call me darlin’ and I’m done. The man also operates on Texas/Cody time and let me tell you, the guy knows when to slow things down. He drives Julie crazy with his slow speed…walking and otherwise *wiggles eyebrows*

The Wedding Date
4 Stars

After the devastating loss of her fiance, realtor Julie Marone is trying, without success, to get back into the dating scene by finding a date for her sister's wedding. But when she meets Cody Brown, a sexy Texan transplant to Boston, sparks fly. Upon learning that Cody is a physician, her deep and abiding mistrust of doctors puts a damper on their budding romance. Will Cody be able to get past her defenses?

Both Julie and Cody are appealing characters and they have excellent chemistry. Cody is a particularly charming hero in pursuit. He has sown his wild oats and is ready to settle down, but wants a woman who can see past his chosen career to the man beneath. Julie, on the other hand, is more reserved and her disdainful attitude toward Cody's profession is problematic. Nevertheless, one cannot help but feel for given the circumstances and root for her HEA.

The secondary cast comprised primarily of Julie's family is wonderful and there are some truly heartwarming moments.

Overall, a short but well-written and enjoyable introduction to the series. I look forward to continuing.

The Wedding date: A Christmas Novella by Cora Connelly is an Avon publication and was released in November 2013. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Julie lost her fiancé, David to brain cancer. Since then she has harbored resentments toward the doctors that treated him, believing they didn't really care about him and didn't do enough to save him.
Now Julie's sister is getting married and wants Julie to have a date for the wedding. While her sister starts looking to set her up with a date, Julie meets Cody, a rodeo cowboy from Texas, relocating to Boston. Cody needs a condo and hires Julie to do the job. Instantly they are attracted to each other, until Julie finds out Cowboy Cody is also a doctor.

A Short, sweet, and spicy novella centered around a Christmas wedding. Julie is going through something many people have faced wondering why her loved one died and if more could have been done. This subject is difficult especially during the holidays, so it was extra special that Julie and Cody met and hopefully she will learn to move forward from the grief and anger that is eating her up.
Cody is super hot and super nice and... he has a brother! Coming in January we will get to meet him.
Overall this is an A.

I liked this book!

Cody can be gross at times, saying things like, “...no matter how nice her rack," but he makes up for it.

This book is very hot, not at all for kids. Her writing is sensuous and erotic without being perverted or forced. It flows like a healthy relationship; a very sexy one. There's no force or abuse or manipulation, and there's lots of steaminess.

A little bit rushed. Sometimes things happened too quickly and I didn’t realize they were happening or what was happening for a while. But only at rare times. I suppose it’s because it’s a novella and not a novel. Or it could just be because I left wanting more.

Is “cukes” short for cucumbers? Because I’ve never heard that and it made me giggle and I pictured cucumbers playing ukuleles; cukes on ukes.

The dinner scene at Julie’s moms house is so stunning. I want my home to be like that already. Family, my man, dinner, Christmas decor, snow outside, the heater and fireplace roasting the room up, all dressed in cozy sweaters and red lipstick ( but only if they wanted to)! Picture perfect. I love the winter. Seeing my Joshua in the snow with his cowboy boots and handsome face; I just love it. And this book just made me want our christmassy home more.

Cara Connelly, this is amazing. You had me hooked in a novella. If you ever want to write about Cody and Julie again, please let me be your focus group!!!

There were so many good quotes in this book, both funny, and sweet, and some simply hot.

“Absolutely,” Julie said agreeably. “So devoted to dear old mom that he still lives in her basement.”

“Ten seconds later, six foot two of Texan filled her door.”

“She hadn’t noticed just how bland until he’d walked in and started smiling all over it.”

“Then he forked a cherry tomato into his mouth. Bit into it, and damn it, she could almost feel the squirt. Why in the world is that so sexy? Why do I want to lick the juice off his tongue?”

“Testosterone wafted off him like the aroma of bacon. Who could say no to bacon?”

“But the truth was, if she fucked like she kissed, he wasn’t going anywhere.”

“And except for politicians and serial killers, I don’t dislike a person based on their job.”

“He was probably a Republican, for God’s sake. If they lived together for a hundred years, she’d never be able to finish his sentences.”

“He pulled away long enough to swing her up into his arms. ‘I can walk,’ she murmured, without conviction. He crushed her against him. ‘Save your strength, honey. You’re gonna need it.’”

“I’ll never hurt you, honey. You’re safe with me.”

“It was good because we’ve got something here.”

I’m obsessed with this series!!! Beacon Hill and Christmas AND snow and love?! I’m adding the rest to my wishlist right now.

Addendum: Okay, now I’m sad. I just saw that the series isn’t even about Cody and Julie. Where will I get my fill of the Boston babe and her tumultuous Texan?

Regardless, I loved the book. 10/10 would read more.

...please give me more...

But matchmaking couples with their dream houses is not just her gift, she’s doing it for another reason. Once she fell so hard, and before both of them could tie the knot and settle into their home – cancer got a hold of him. It had broke her heart, and since then, she has not dated. Her sister had taken it into her own hands in finding her a date, one by one, she throws her guys to blind date.

Cody Brown is not just a typical southern cowboy with a sexy accent. He’s an ER doctor. It was his job, his responsibility and his curse. It has seems to attract every possible leech there is. Being a doctor indeed has its perks, and some women would just take advantage to climb the social ladder with him as a stepping stone.

Although Cody may have charm her into agreeing to find him a ‘new home’ despite the fact that she has a ‘couples-only’ rule. But it doesn’t mean that she’s going to fall into his arms easily. She as some issues with doctors that stems with her hospital visits and eventful doctor’s appointment when her ex-fiancé was still alive. Nevertheless, Cody will just fight his way to his heart – because he knew that this girl could be the one. Now, if only Julie will give him a chance rather than fight it.

It’s short, fun, and sweet – just in time for the holiday season. I love the characters, although Julie can be a little frustrating at times. I have been working with doctors, and I must say, you can’t generalize them all. Just like an ordinary worker – some are good, some are bad. I wished that she’d realize that before Cody would get tired of chasing her. For Cody – I like his sense of humor, and wit. He may be an ER doctor – which require a lot of skill and moving fast, but in real life, he likes to take it slow. They already make an interesting couple, even without the meddling of Julie’s family.

The Wedding Date is a story about giving a second chance on love when it failed and broke your heart the first time.

This is an enjoyable novella about finding your forever match. A Christmas short that gets you in the holiday spirit.

Julie Marone, finds perfect homes for couples with her real estate company and although she looks for the happily ever after for others, she is not looking for that in her own life, her fiancé died three years ago from cancer and she has not dated since. Her family has decided it is time to move on and they think she needs a date for her sister's upcoming wedding, so they have set her up on three blind dates.

Cody Brown moved to Boston from Austin several weeks ago. He is pure cowboy and wants to buy a condo close to the hospital where he works as a doctor. A co-worker referred him to Julie to help him find a place yet she refuses to help him at first, as he is not a couple, one of her rules.

Cody and Julie are immediately attracted to each other but she pushes back when she finds out he is a doctor, she blames all doctors for her fiancé's death. Cody is floored that she pushes away from him, the fact that she does not agree with most of what he says is uncharted territory for him, as he is used to women falling for him. This leads to some very funny scenes as he tries to get her to like him and she keeps stepping back.

What a fun, cute story, I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry the two have as Kate struggle with her past that hinder their future. I laughed out loud on how different they were while she worked with him, she sprints around town while walking, and he just takes his time, he ambles, saunters and meanders, and the comments she makes about how slow he walks are hilarious. The story is engaging as we watch Kate struggle with her fiancé's death, even three years later, she has not moved on and when she is finally ready, she finds a doctor, the worse person, in her mind she could find. I really like Cody, he was a bit egotistical at first but he I like his southern ways and thought he was great when he confronted her about her feelings of doctors, the past and how she needs to live again.

I am looking forward to more in this series, I know Cody's brother is next as he travels to a wedding in Europe. Looks for sparks to fly.

Julie helps couples find their happily ever after place to live. She can find the perfect house or place for any couple. She is great and her job and doesn't work with single people. However she finds Cody Brown irresistible when he ask for her help finding a place. He has one major thing against him and that is he is a doctor. Where a lot of woman want a doctor, Julie wants nothing to do with them. She lost her fiance years ago and blames the doctors. Julie's sister keeps setting her up on dates with different guys so she can have a date for her wedding but Cody wirks his way in. Julie will have to let go of the pain of the past if she can hope to find love again. No Matter how much Julie pushes Cody away he won't back down.

Julie is excellent at her job and pairing couples up with their perfect house is a gift she has. She doesn't date much and while she is lonely she still mourns for her ex fiance. She is a great character one you get to know and understand. She is holding in lots of grief and anger but it is understandable. Cody is the sexy doctor who has also been a cowboy. Big double wammy there. He is also funny, charming and cares about people. He has had his problems with woman in the past and he sees right away Julie isn't like them. I liked both of these characters as they fight their own emotions.

This book draws you right in from the sexy doctor to some horrible blind dates you never know what is going to happen. I laughed a few times at the stuff Julie goes through on these dates. Cody will give you quite a few chuckles as well as he teases Julie. I liked the chemistry and the heat between these two. You never knew what they would do next. I like how Cody wouldn't back down from Julie and instead of babying her over her fiance he tries to make her face facts. This book is a wonderful story with endearing characters. I hated to see it end even if the ending was great. If you love romance books with a good plot give this one a try.

A sexy, heartbreaking, romantic, funny, roller coaster story. Mixed with a SEXY ass cowboy whose also a doctor, sweet as sugar and even sexier than you can imagine....What's there NOT to like?? Oh wait, I know what...The fact that it was way TOO short!!! But, I still liked it all the same!!

Cody, a cowboy, from Texas, moves to Boston to work in the ER to get away from his lifestyle at home. He left behind his ranch and brother to take care of it all. He never wanted to settle down, have a family or a big house, but that all changes, the minute he lays his eyes on Julie.

Julie is almost a widow, her fiance' passed away from a brain tumor and she's sworn off doctors, hospitals and anything that has to do with medicine. She's a real estate broker but with a twist. She finds dream houses for couples. ONLY couples. So, when Cody, asks if she can find him an apartment, she doesn't really want to get involved. He gets her to do it, and from then on, it's a hoot!

They're both sassy, sarcastic, warm, funny and both have so many feelings bottled up from the past that they still can't seem to realize that they're made for one another. Cody wont stop till Julie's his. But can Julie get over her hate for doctors, before it's too late?

Cody has relocated from Texas to Boston; this doctor is used to having it all: from women fawning over him, to really fawning when they learn he is a doctor, his confusion when he arrives in a real estate office to engage their services for a new home.

Julie is a real estate agent with two rules: she only finds homes for couples, and she doesn’t like doctors. Not one bit. So this man, in his cowboy gear better suited to warmer weather and not appropriate doctor-wear shouldn’t ring her bells. But he does.

And, this is a quickly paced clever story with great banter and interaction, some ridiculously predictable, yet still funny, situations and misconceptions from family, and a heartwarming happy ever after.

With meddling family, family dinners and weather unlike any found regularly in Texas, Cody and Julie don’t stand a chance of ignoring the sparks between them. Cara Connelly has written a fun and clever holiday story, a perfect afternoon’s getaway to recover after a busy day!

I received an eBook from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4.5 Star Review - The Wedding Date

I recommend this book.

This book contains heartache, passion, and laughs.

Julie has a gift for matching couples to there perfect homes. When Cody stops in her office he needs a condo. She turns him down as she only works with couples.

When he talks her into helping him out she does but she's not happy about it. He is not part of a couple and even worst he is a doctor.

Something in her past has made her hate all doctors. How will Cody breakdown her walls if he is hated by her for his profession?

Cody is very attracted to Julie and really wants to get to know her better. With her doctor issue is it even worth it?

I like Cody and Julie. You can feel the chemistry jump off the pages. On one hand you can understand Julie's issue with Doctors but since Cody was not even around can she really blame him also? Love how Cody slowly breaks down her walls one by one.

This is one of the best novellas I've read. Loved Julie and Cody, especially Cody *drool*. I'm eager now to read more books in this series.

Second read - 20 to 23 January, 2016

Usually I am not a fan of insta-love but this quick connection/romance between Cody and Julie worked for me. It was sexy, funny, had the right amount of angst, and had a sweet HEA.

Third read - 12 June, 2020
DNF
I don't remember reading this the first two times, but this time around it was a DNF for me. I wasn't a fan of either of the MCs, the pacing was too fast in regard to relationship development, and it was way too short to become invested in the story. I'm unhauling this one.

A quick read being a novella. Just enough time to get to know the characters - a family that we can all relate to. Sets a romantic mood with the perfect snowy backdrop in the beautiful city of Boston.

You will fall in love fast, and find yourself wishing for wintry nights snuggled up with a sexy cowboy in front of the fire in Beacon Hill!

While not a part of continuous series, characters can be found in each of Connelly's "Wedding" books, enabling us to fully immerse in this world that Connelly has created with each read.

This book was on my TBR list. I was lucky enough to win it and it did not disappoint. I had a ever hard time putting this book down. When reading the Julie needs to over come a past that she does not want to give up. Cody came looking for a place to live in Boston. He has just moved to Boston from Texas to Run an ER. When Cody first sees Julie he knows he wants her and is will to get past her walls if he can. When Julie learns he's a Doctor she just wants to find him a home and move on. So who is right in the Does Julie move on or Does Cody get the girl?

Warm,Spicy Christmas Read.

Cara Connelly’s THE WEDDING DATE is a fun, fast-paced, sexy read. The hero, a hunky cowboy ER Doc, has met his match in a heroine who covers up her grief with kick-ass sass. This short novella is the perfect curl-up by the fire story and will leave you wanting more. I’ve pre-ordered Connelly’s debut novel, THE WEDDING FAVOR due out in January, and am looking forward to many more great novels from this author.

A Christmas story with a family wedding mixed in. When Dr. Cody brown arrives in boston to take over emergency services at the hospital, he needs realtor Julie Marone to find him a place to live. He decides her place will do just fine but she has a phobia about doctors. Will he win this battle of wills? Of course, it's Christmas.

Cara Connelly's book, The Wedding Date, is a Christmas Novella. This was a fun book to read because of the interactions between the main characters: Julie and Cody. I usually don't like to read novellas because I prefer longer books. This book (118 pages) worked for me because it is the beginning of Connelly's Save the Date series which promises to be really entertaining!

I enjoyed this book and would read others in the series. Sometimes the vulgar language was a little off-putting, as it seemed out of place even within scenes. The hero dropped the F bomb in church. Twice. But I cared about the heroine and really liked the hero!

Not too bad but not a fan of the over-sexed hero who are apparently so irresistible that all women want to throw their panties at them. h is still grieving her fiancee who died and blames all doctors, which the hero happens to be. I liked the potential in the writing.
