While browsing bookstore shelves as a teenager, Lo discovered the erotic writings of Anaïs Nin and A.N. Roquelaure. Certain her mother would not approve, Lo smuggled the books home and squirreled them away in the most likely of places: under her bed. Late at night, she delved into the sensual worlds both writers created.

As a co-ed studying biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University, Lo dabbled in creating naughty tales to entertain her friends. Study for a midterm or pen a deliciously dirty story to delight her small band of fans? Not surprisingly, Lo is now on an extended sabbatical from college.

Luckily, Lo stumbled onto the world of erotic romance publishers. She realized there were other readers and writers who loved and craved breathtaking romance with the spiciest of love scenes. She took a chance and submitted her first novella. The rest is history.

Lo lives in Texas with her family and beloved Great Dane, Bosley.

Not exactly another dragon fail, but not a triumph either. If you just want dragon porn, barely a story line, and insta-love, this is for you. I'm more in the mood for an actual plot, so I couldn't get into this book. I think I read 40-60 pages before giving up. I fell asleep reading this and I use how fast I fall asleep reading something as an indicator of how awesome or unawesome a book is. You see where this one falls. This was the story as far as I'd gotten.
Dragon girl to dragon guy - Hi, I want to get pregnant. Let's bang.
Dragon guy: Ok, let's bang, but we're just banging, no feelings.
Dragon girl: Ok, knock me up.
Banging, banging, banging, some more banging.
Omg, Insta-love.
Dragon girl: Stay with me forever. I love you.
Dragon guy: Yes, I will stay with you forever. I love you. Now let's bang.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.

And then I DNF it.

I really liked this story. I do have a few complaints, but it's the same old song and dance for these short paranormal books: I want more. More world building, more character and relationship development, etc.

I really wanted to know more about the feud between their families. I wanted to know why Avani's whole line had been targeted to near extinction (was is because her breed aren't as powerful or something? Or are they too powerful?).

And, a lengthier story would have given us more time to really believe that these two fell in love. There was some major insta-love happening.

But, for the length, these books do deliver. They're fun and fast-paced because of the sex and suspense at the end. Also, she slips in enough backstory of the secondary characters to make you want the next books (I really want to know what happen with Mad).

So, really, I liked it a lot. I was engrossed and invested, but I can't totally love it/them because I always think that some of its potential was wasted.

Avani is desperate – she’s in heat and needs to conceive a child to continue her near-extinct dragon race, the serpentine Naga. Griffon is the only man she can find who can help ensure her baby inherits the Naga gifts – but he’s her sworn enemy, a hulking Welsh Red.

When I read the first book in this series, Dead Sexy Dragon, I felt a little stupid. The only other erotica I’d read was a failed attempt at Fifty Shades of Grey which I abandoned due its horrendous domestic violence, abuse, and terrible, terrible writing. Dead Sexy Dragon was pleasant enough, but it was the sneak peek at Avani and Griff’s story at the end that made me want to continue the series.

Read complete review at the Moonlight Library.

Reread in 2023:
Yep, just as good as the first time. I seem to recall the smut much better than the storyline :P

Oh, Mrs. Lopez... you got me. You totally won me over with your Dragons.

The other book got dropped a star because I felt Stig wasn't quite Alpha enough for me. I mean, he was hot, but I thought there could have been more 'brutish' behavior for a reclusive dragon shifter.

Then Lolita goes and gives me Griffin. We met him, kinda sorta in the first book. I would like a bit more interactions with the supporting cast in previous books, just so we get this rumbly in our tumbly for them in future books. Book one just made me want to snog the living day lights out of Ignacius ( Think that is the spelling) He has one eye, is scarred, is very icy, but has this big ole' marshmallow heart.

Ok, enough about that. Let's talk about Vonny and Griffin.

Vonny comes off as an ice queen.

But you like her anyways because the chick has gumption.

Who doesn't like a chick with gumption.

After the knights eradicated nearly her whole family, she's been on her own and made a good life for herself. Being successful and kinda lonely, she realizes its time to have a child. But a child that can keep on the family line.

So, she does some research and lookie their Griffin has some Naga blood in his family tree. So what does an independent woman do. Why she approaches said hunky dragon shifter, right after he's been sexy rolling around a fighting ring with another sexy dragon shifter and says. "Hey, I need us to hump during our mating cycles so I can get preggers."

Now, before you get a judgy on her, hear me out.

She wants to go this alone.

She wants to be a single mother and be the parent, hers never were to her.

But Griffin ain't having none of that.

If he's gonna make a baby with the ice queen, he's gonna be a good parent.

Now, I gotta give him credit for that. Its commendable.

So thus begins the baby making process. This book had more smexy scenes than the first one, but yikes they were yummy.

Griffin is more demanding and Alpha than Stig, and Vonny turns out to be this really clever, yet loving woman.

Then all hell breaks loose and the dang Knights show up. Lopez gives up more on that back history, she digs deeper into some shady business with the Brotherhood, and totally does a great lead in, into book three. (July Ms. Lopez... really? You're making we me wait until JULY!)

Anyways, Vonny has been holding back her Naga (a crazy cool snake like water serpent) with meditation and fasting. Well, when her mate is threatened, Vonny gets shifting and it is so effing OFF THE HOOK!

What I think I love most out of this series is that Lolita is allowing the women to be the heroes essentially in the big fight scenes. She's giving them a sense of power. Not just with them being kick butt and acting like amazon warrior princesses. But they are smart, vulnerable, clever, and they can save their men just as well as their men can save them.

She truly locked onto what a 'strong female lead is' people think most women are 'strong' because they can beat up boys and shoot a gun and just go balls to the walls. No one stops to think that a strong woman, is a smart woman, and that is what Lolita has done.

JULY!!!!!! JULY!!!!!!!! *DIES*

***warning....this review goes into details about what goes on in the story so if you don't want spoilers then you may not want to read this review***

This was a very good story. I really liked Avani and Griffin and their story was very enjoyable; hot and sweet with some action thrown in for good measure.

Avani is a dragon shifter of a very rare variety. She's a Naga variety of dragon shifter and is the last of her line as the "Knights" (dragon hunters) killed all the rest of her family. Avani feels responsible for continuing her line and found that Griffin is the most likely candidate for having Naga babies due to his bloodline. The only problem is that their clans have a blood feud between them.

Griffin is a dragon shifter that can produce thunder. He's part of a brotherhood of dragons that fight the "Knights" and tries to protect dragon kind. Griffin is very close to his cousin, Mad, who is like a brother to him. Griffin hasn't thought about taking a mate or starting a family but an unexpected proposition changes that.

Avani approaches Griffin just as they're both entering their mating cycle. Under a while flag of truce (because of the feud) Avani propositions Griffin (explaining about her need to continue her line and how his bloodlines give the best option for that) asking him to spend his time in heat with her so they can hopefully conceive a child. She offers to leave him free of any obligation but Griffin isn't about to be left out of his child's life. They both agree that they're not interested in mating but will try to have a child together in order to continue her line. Avani isn't too pleased to have Griffin insisting on being a part of the child's life but figures she's has little choice. Her reasoning isn't meant to be mean or say anything against Griffin but rather left over issues stemming from her childhood. Griffin realizes pretty quickly that Avani isn't as cold and without feelings as she tries to act and that it's more of a defense mechanism. As they start spending more time together, Griffin and Avani develop feelings for each other but are reluctant to reveal their feeling to each other. Griffin told Avani at the beginning that he didn't want a mate so when her feelings start to deepen, she's not happy about the thought of Griffin leaving when their heat ends. Griffin is feeling much more for Avani than he bargained for and doesn't know if she'd be willing to try for something more now that they know each other better. The attraction is very strong between them and the growing feelings on both sides just makes it more and more obvious they're meant to be. Thankfully, before too much drama ensues, Griffin and Avani have a conversation in which they both make an effort to be honest about their feelings and find they're both on the same page. Unfortunately, just when things seem to be going well relationship wise, Mad disappears and Griffin and Avani get in to some trouble while looking for him. There's some danger but they both come out safe in the end and starting their HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I really liked both Griffin and Avani and liked seeing them get together. I also liked seeing Avani gain confidence in herself and kick butt when the need came up. She was a pretty good heroine. Griffin was a really good hero, not too soft but not too hard...he was just right. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up. :)

One thing that I'm certain of is that I'm quickly becoming a fan of Lolita Lopez and her alter ego under the pen name of Roxie Rivera. While I had some issues with the first installment of the Dragon Heat series, Dead Sexy Dragon, I still liked it overall. However, I found Red Hot Dragon to be much more enjoyable.

The difference between Dead Sexy Dragon and Red Hot Dragon to me is that I felt the relationship between Griff and Avani was more fleshed out. I felt as if the author took more time in this story to build on Griff and Avani's relationship. Although, I do have to argue that Griff and Avani's relationship was still a bit rushed. They got together rather quickly and for that I wished there would have been more of a buildup to it. Yet, there was an emotional connection between Griff and Avani that I didn't get from Stig and Cora from Dead Sexy Dragon. With that, it made all the difference and is what pushed the rating higher for me as Griff and Avani's story was not only sexy, but there was more of an emotional depth to their story.

While I did enjoy Red Hot Dragon, there is a minor criticism from me. I felt that for such a short book (novella) this story had a little too many sex scenes in it. It didn't overpower the story per se, but I thought some of the sex scenes could have been devoted to more of the emotional elements of Griff and Avani's relationship.

Other things that I should mention about Red Hot Dragon is that Griff and Avani were wonderful characters, the pacing was quick, the chemistry was sizzling and the sex was hot. Also, although this is the second in the series, it can be a stand alone read.

In conclusion, Red Hot Dragon was an easily enjoyable read. Any reader looking for a fast-paced and sexy paranormal romance should pick up Red Hot Dragon by Lolita Lopez. This was an exciting story all around. I'm certainly looking forward to more of these sexy dragon shifters.

I received an e-copy of this book from the publishers at NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So, I read the first book in the series (also a review copy provided by NetGalley) and I was less than impressed with it. In fact, I was a little upset with how shaky the story line was and how quickly it concluded. Undeterred I still decided to read the second book in the series, hoping more dragon related material was discussed so I could gain further knowledge of the world being created. I hoped that the first book was simply a first project snafu and the second book would be much better.

In the second installment in the Dragon Heat series, the story focuses on Griffin, another Brotherhood member. He is content in his life as an owner of a gym and fighting the evil dragon slayers in his off time. Then his world his shaken to it's core once Avani enters with her cool and collected attitude and floors him with asking him to father her child.

Avani, being the last of the naga serpent dragons, wishes to breed with Griffin because his bloodline contains traits that would favor her producing a naga offspring. She believes that this mountain of a man would take no issue with planting his seed and walking away. She was sadly mistaken since one of Griffin's first stipulations is that he will be a part of the child's life and that is non-negotiable. Avani has no choice but to agree and hope she can change his mind later.

What both Griffin and Avani did not count on was that their dragon halves desired each other more than they would have guessed. That they would find themselves sorting through strong emotions and, dare we hope, love? All these muddled feelings are even more conflicted when Griffin must decide between protecting the woman he is developing feelings for or going after his cousin who has disappeared. Will Griffin choose the family he is trying to create or the family he already has had for centuries?

I was blown away by this book. It was so much better than the first book. There was romance, there was action, and there were dragon politics (much of which were lacking in the first book). It started well, toed the line of plausibility (if dragonshifters were real, of course), and concluded without me having a sputtering "what just happened" attack. I am anxious to get my hands on the next story which I hope with fingers crossed will be about Mad and Ivy. Way to brush off the less than stellar first project and deliver a much more well rounded addition to the series, Lolita!

Red Hot Dragon draws its readers back into the world of the dragonshifter Brotherhood and makes it virtually impossible for them to want to leave. Griffin and Avani are an odd pair that proves that love comes in all shapes and forms... even when one of those forms is a giant snake dragon.

[I received a copy of Red Hot Dragon from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.] Lolita Lopez's series features sexy, alpha dragons with tattoos and attitude. I've had the two books in Lolita Lopez's Dragon Heat series on my Kindle TBR (to be read) shelf for a while, but receiving a copy of the second book Red Hot Dragon from the publisher, I decided to read the two books asap.

I'll be up front - I love dragons. I'm not sure if it's my Welsh heritage or if there is just something uber sexy about fire breathing reptiles, but I do tend gravitate towards these shape shifting beasts.

Lopez's dragons are part of a secret brotherhood that protects the dragon race from St. George's descendants - swords and all. Her first book, Dead Sexy Dragon, features reclusive dragon shifter Stig Wyvern and an unexpected guest at his lair, baker Cora Cardenas. She's the kid sister of his now-deceased best friend from the military and also someone he likes, perhaps more than he should.

The second book, Red Hot Dragon, features Welsh red dragon Griffin Cadogan and naga Avani Monroe. They have to overcome a blood feud, some St. George dragon slayers who have them in their sights, as well as mutual distrust. But sparks are flying when they meet and perhaps Avani's wish to have a little dragon to continue her line might come true.

Both these books have a lot of sex - a lot of hot dragon sex - so be warned they are very romantica - if not erotica. But there is enough of a story line to carry these through as both dragon couples find passion in the midst of the three-year heat cycle that seems to be one of the triggers for the red hot dragon passion.

These are very quick and easy reads. I wouldn't say they're my favorite dragon shifter stories, but they're fun. Again, I'd give them an NR-17 rating (at least) and advise that the story is pretty much secondary to the dragon passion.

The plot in RED HOT DRAGON felt rushed with more focus on the sex scenes than the romantic development or the plot. I felt left out of the exciting and very fun sounding kidnapping story happening somewhere else especially when its resolution appeared to be an afterthought to the next sex scene. Perhaps there are some readers who just want sex in their books and that’s fine but with such an interesting series plot line involving a group of knights and dragons embroiled in a centuries long war I was anticipating more time to be spent on that and also some time spent getting to know Griffin and Avani better in RED HOT DRAGON.

I enjoyed the romance between Griffin and Avani and how it progressed smoothly throughout the story. Both Griffin and Avani are smart, complex characters who’s backstories are equally compelling and I would have loved to spend more time learning about their respective lives. They both approach the relationship as a sort of business arrangement but eventually it becomes something more. The arrangement for Griffin to be her ‘baby daddy’ is a really unique idea and it was fun to see them hash out the details of their plan knowing that they were going to end up together in the end. While the developing relationship felt rushed it made sense in how it developed and I enjoyed seeing them come to the realization that they wanted to be together beyond the terms of their arrangement.

RED HOT DRAGON is sexy erotic fun for those that are looking for a light-on-plot romance with two very sexy, red hot dragons. Unfortunately it was so short of a book it felt rushed and I didn’t feel any solid connection to the interesting characters or the compelling story lines. Currently there is no information about another book but there is definitely room for more stories in the Dragon Heat series.

Book Review- Red Hot Dragon by Lolita Lopez

Avani Monroe is the last of her mother’s dragon line. She wants to save it if she can. She decides to approach Griffin Cadogan and offer him a proposition. He is apart of the family that hers has a blood feud with, but she is hoping that he doesn’t care about that. She knows he is about to enter his heat cycle just as she is and wants him to father her child. Being a single parent is her plan, so Griffin needs not worry about any strings attached. Griffin is shocked at her request, but decides to help her. He explains that he is not looking to find a mate, but will not walk away from his child. Avani decides that she will change his mind about his involvement during the nine days they are together.
Once they are locked together in her underground lair, their feelings start to change. Maybe having a mate wouldn’t be bad. It is hard for them each to hide their shock. Their feelings continue to grow and they start to bond. Then they find themselves protecting each other and fighting for their lives when the Knights attack them. Griffin is also pulled in another direction when Madoc, his cousin, disappears. Avani has to embrace her dragon, something she has never done, to survive the attack. Griffin and Avani may not be able to carry out their plans with the Knights after them. The danger may be too much for both of them.

This is a novella in the Dragon series from this author. This follows Stieg and Cora’s story for those of you familiar with the series. It was a fast read and a sweet story between the main characters. It was fun to watch as they came to the realization that having a mate wasn’t a bad thing. In fact they weren’t enemies at all, they were perfect for each other. I like that Griffin figured it out first, but was hesitant to say anything. Avani made up for her slower comprehension of her feelings by being the first to say it out loud. I give story this a 4 out of 5.

I am impressed. I liked the idea of this, but had some issues with the first book in the Dragon Heat Series, Dead Sexy Dragon. I hoped that things would smooth out in this one...and they certainly did. The flow is much easier to read. The sexy times don't swamp the storyline. I really liked Avani. She was sexy and sweet and brave. Griffin was GREAT.

I enjoyed their shifter aspects, too. He slaps his wings together and the thunder clap can bring down walls. She is a huge slithery dragon snake. Very cool, indeed. Their eyes change, a lot, and it was intriguing. We did get a bit more of the rules and history of the fight between the Dragons and the Knights. I enjoyed that.

There were a few word choices that kept stopping me in my reading tracks. "Pout" and "shuddery" could have been used a bit less. I know, not everyone notices that sort of thing, but I started counting...instead of reading. Then the dragons would pull me back into the story.

Yes, I'm impressed! And I'm looking forward to more in this Dragon Heat Series.

Reviewed for: Where the Night Kind Roam

I was actually looking forward to this one. This first book showed promise and I quite enjoyed it. I mean who doesn’t love a dragon shifter book? Well when they are done well...

This one, it was mostly just sex, which I don’t mind but that was basically the entire plot. SO there was little plot beyond making a baby and very little character development. Which I guess isn’t that uncommon for a novella but I had just finished another novella that was probably shorter than this one and it had a lot more character development as well as an actual plot. So I can't really use that this was a novella as an excuse. Plus I am not entirely sure how a Nega (serpent shifter) fits into the whole dragon world. I mean it’s a snake not a dragon... Some of the dialogue was pretty cheesy; I think I groan from the cheese that was oozing through the pages. The most interesting part of this book was the missing cousin and mentions of Stig and Cora. Maybe I'll read the next book in the series because I am slightly curious what happened with the cousin and the girl and it’s not like these books are all that long.

If you want a steamy read with a dragon shifter, this book is for you. If you want an actual plot with character development don’t put this one as a priority on your TBR. Oh I do like that this series is interracial. That adds some diversity to the erotica/romance genre.

Hot, thrilling, and romantic, Red Hot Dragon was an amazing paranormal romance novella! I really enjoyed this lovely romance.

Avani and Griffin were great characters. Both were strong, likable, and wonderful. Avani was a heroine that knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go for it. She was awesome. Griffin was super sweet and dedicated to his job and his loved ones. I really liked both of them.

The romance was hot. Like, you might need to fan your face a few times. But, it was also sweet seeing Avani and Griffin go from a business deal to falling in loved. I thought they were a lovely couple.

The plot was fast paced. I was kept interested the entire way through. There were thrills that kept me hooked. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

Red Hot Dragon was a fantastic, super hot romance novella. Loved this book! If you want a hot romance that keeps you hooked, then this is a book you'll want to read.

It's Griffin's turn! It's Griffin's turn! I was so happy to read about Griffin, "Griffin lifted one huge hand and crooked a finger. His deep, rumbling voice made her heart race. "Come with me." Sweet Jesus I'd go anywhere you. I mean he has a temper, but he's a dragon for Christ sake name one dragon who doesn't have a temper, "you didn't think. You assumed you could waltz in here smelling like heaven, then ensnare me and convince me to do whatever you want. Well, I've got news for you, Avani. I'm not the kind of man who can be led around by his d***." It amazes me how much stamina these damn dragons have, "her eyes flew open at the sensation of his co** twitching to life inside her. Tearing her mouth away from his, she gasped with disbelief. "You're hard again! So soon?" And Griffin is so patient and sweet with Avani, "always easygoing, he'd taken it in stride and left her in the shower after a quick smack on her backside and a noisy smooch on her cheek."

The second book in the Dragon Heat series was a good read, but I was a bit disappointed. Reading the blurb for this story I had a great expectation for a wonderful story, but I wasn’t as thrilled with the way the romance unfolded and how the couple came together. While there were some interesting action moments and certainly plenty of sexy scenes between Griffin and Avani, I found the emotion of the romance to be a bit lacking—or perhaps superficial is the best way to describe it. I will continue this series because the premise is engaging and the stories are well written, but I continue to hope for something a bit longer, allowing for the deeper emotions to develop.
The story revolves around Avani's life-changing decision to continue her species by seeking out a genetic match to father a child with her. She has no desire for a mate or partner and presents the entire situation to Griffin as a business arrangement. Though he initially resists the idea, his own desire for family leads him to accept her proposal with a few caveats—he will not give up rights to their baby. With some of the issues unresolved, they sequester themselves in Avani's underground lair and let the mating heat they are both experiencing led where it may. Only as they spend more time together, both of them begin to question their determination to remain apart and decide to give their relationship a chance beyond slaking their lust and accomplishing their goal.
When Avani and Griffin come together it is definitely erotic and heated. The passion between them is nothing to dismiss and they certainly go at each other with a lusty determination. There are certainly moments that I needed a cold drink just to allow me to keep reading, but I didn’t feel much of an emotional connection between them, until suddenly there it was. There didn’t seem to be much of a development of their love; they just went from an intense attraction to each other to being in love and deciding to mate for life. I would have liked a bit more time for love to grow or at least allowing us to experience that growth as there was a large time gap in the story, but overall they were sexy enough for me to accept the sudden changes.
In the end, this story was a short, hot read to fill a cool fall evening. With all the action of dragon battles, sexiness of two dragons in heat, and the happy ending I look for, Red Hot Dragon was a well written and heated erotic novella. Griffin and Avani were interesting characters with depth and intelligence, perfectly matched and able to come together in love once they stopped letting old fears hold them back. Though the emotional connection was a bit abrupt for my preference, I can see that the couple was meant to be and the love was certainly there in the end. Overall I can say this was a good read and well worth getting lost in for a few hours. It was also interesting to get to see some of the characters I loved in the previous story in the series and learn more about them. I am looking forward to finding out what will come next in the Dragon Heat Series.

Avani Monroe is the last on her kind after the systematical eradication of her mother's rare and unique line, the Naga, by the Knights. In a last ditch effort to save her bloodline, she has a daring proposal for her enemy whose line is most compatible to hers. Any offspring they might have could result in that child inheriting her Naga gifts.

Griffin Cadogan is devoted to the Brotherhood of the Green Hide and his duty of protecting all dragons from the Knights. Seeing his friend Stig with his new mate has stirred a similar longing in him. But his duty is a dangerous one and he won't subject his mate and children to the dangers of his job. When Avani and asks him to help her by having a child with her, he's appalled and intrigued at the same time. Neither is looking for a commitment, however he only agrees if they do things on his terms. But a lot can change in nine days.

I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first. It had a lot to do with the maturity of the characters and how they communicated with one another. When the blood feud between their families was mentioned, I worried at first that that would be the main obstacle or source of drama that would overshadow what they were trying to accomplish. Thankfully it wasn't really an issue. Since they had to spend their mating cycle in seclusion, they got to know one another in more ways than the biblical sense. Once they realized that feelings for one another were beginning to surface, I loved that they voiced those feelings instead of trying to hide them or talk themselves out of wanting more out of their arrangement. It may have been a little predictable that something would force Avani to embrace and use her serpent form, but it was nice to see her fight alongside her man rather than be one of those females who had to stay behind for her own safety. I love confident heroines and heroes who support them rather than coddle them. The sub plot involving Ian Maddoc hinted at something more dangerous than sneak attacks from the Knights so I am really looking forward to his story. If you're looking for a sexy dragon shifter romance, then this series is for you.

Short and sweet review:

I seem to enjoy everything I read from Lopez. While I found Red Hot Dragon to be a bit slower than it’s predecessor, Dead Sexy Dragon, I still enjoyed the continued world building, larger than life characters and yes….the sex. True to a Lopez book there is a TON of sex. Sex everywhere, all the time. At times it can blur the erotic/erotica line but nonetheless, it’s done well. Going into these books you should kinda know there will be a ton of sex, I mean the series is called DRAGON HEAT. Heat being the operative word there. So anyone that says, there is too much sex, whoa is me, obvi didn’t read the series title.

Red Hot Dragon finds red dragon Griffin, entering his mating cycle and needing to get into seclusion until it’s run it’s course. Naga dragon (think Chinese dragon) Avani has other plans though, which include getting Griffin to father her child to help preserve her dwindling line. He is understandably hesitant at first since their lines of heritage have been at war with each other for centuries but he quickly..ummm…gets “on board”.

As they each fight their mating link and instead try to limit their activities to just mating, a far more vicious predator moves in for the kill. Their only priority to make sure Avani’s line is completely extinguished and Griffin’s elite group of brothers are taken out in the process.

I wasn’t crazy about Avani’s dragon line. I often enjoy when shifters communicate while in animal form and Avani couldn’t do that even though Griffin could. It took a bit away from their connection for me. For his part Griffin gave me what I wanted. A huge protective male who wasn’t afraid to go for what he wanted and whose gentleness (even in the face of danger) was sigh worthy.

I look forward to continuing this series of short, super hot, dragon shifter books with the next installment about Griffin’s cousin and his mate. Though short, these pack a punch giving me the sex I crave, the story line that keeps me coming back and with the shifters I have a huge soft spot for…dragons.

I give Red Hot Dragon by Lolita Lopez 3.75 stars!

In this sequel to the spicy hot Dead Sexy Dragon, his dragon heat brings the green Welsh dragon Griffin Cadogan a surprise when Ivani Monroe, the last of her dragon kind, comes to him with a shocking proposition. Apparently, Griffin is the only dragon compatible with her breed in a way that can give her another of her kind, a serpent-like dragon that's strength is poison. The human Knights who are sworn to kill all dragons killed her mother's entire line and she is desperate enough to call it quits on a centuries old feud between Griffin and her dragon lines just to make sure things don't die off with her plus there is the very real issue that the dragons need to produce because their race as a whole is dying off.

Griffin's first reaction is to send the female dragon packing for even suggesting such a thing as to proposition him to take Avani during their mutual mating heat and give her a baby. Then he decides he likes the idea because he has always wanted a child, but he has a dangerous job as a dragon warrior who is sworn to protect their race so he never intends to mate. He realizes he is in over his head quickly and he won't be walking away untouched when his mating heat is over. In fact, he's not sure he can walk away, but in the meantime, his cousin goes missing and the Knights unleash a plot that puts several in danger.

This one gets to things quickly since it is so short. It's a story about dragons in mating heat (who do not actually mate in dragon form if that is an issue for you) so no mystery there about what is the focal point, but it's not lacking in story development either. Griffin and Ivani are an interesting pair of opposites that seem to work. She's very controlling and he's a take charge guy, but they figure out a balance.

There is a big lead in to Mad and Ivy's story which is running parallel to this one with just a few hints given as to what is going on there. I look forward to continuing with the series and getting more of the Dragon Heat world.

Those who enjoy steamy dragon shifter romance, but need something quick and to the point should give this series a try.

RED HOT DRAGON is the second storyline in Lolita Lopez’s Dragon Heat paranormal dragon shifter novella series. This is Griff and Avani’s story and once again our dragons are entering their mating phase which places them in danger of discovery by the Knights who have sworn to destroy all dragons.

The storyline focuses on Avani’s need to mate. As the only surviving dragon of her kind, it is imperative that Avani continue the line and there is only one dragon of which she knows that is in his mating heat at the same time. Enter Griffin Cadogan who wants nothing to do with mating, raising a child or propagating the species but to his surprise his internal dragon wants only one thing-to mate with Avani Monroe.

The world building is limited due to the length of the novella, but the reader is pulled into a storyline where the history of a blood feud between Avani’s line and the other dragons has place Avani in a precarious position. She is in possession of something the other dragons want.

There is also a secondary storyline building as Griffin's best friend and fellow dragon goes missing following a series of prophetic dreams and nightmares. As the other dragons must deal with the attack against Griffin and Avani, they are all in danger when one of their own goes missing.

The sexual heat is high as the mating phase pulls our couple towards one another. There is no denying that their inner dragons want nothing more than to mate, but it is the human side that sees a future when the mating phase is complete.

If you like a story with strong alpha males, dragon shifters and protective alpha mates, than Dragon Heat is the perfect series. These are fast paced, short storylines that can be read in one sitting.

Red Hot Dragon is the second novella in the Dragon Heat series by Lolita Lopez. In this installment we see Griffin Cadogan is shocked to see Avani Monroe, sworn enemy of his dragon family, walk into his gym. With his mating phase soon approaching, Griffin is curious as to why she has to come enemy territory knowing the risks. Not only does she surprise Griffin and his cousin, Mad, by coming to enemy territory, but what she wants is borderline insane. She wants Griffin to help her have a baby.

Red Hot Dragon is a novella with plenty of steamy sex scenes, but very little character and greater plot development for the larger story arc. Griffin is a mega alpha male, that is entering his mating phase and while more than willing to make a baby, is not willing to walk away from any child that might result. Avani is the last of her line, and desperate to be everything to a child that her parents were not. the pair start off all about the sex, but almost instantly feel more for each other. The hunters play their part, and there is a tantalizing glimpse at who best be the staring couple of the next book. when I finished the book I was more interested in the characters for the next book, than in Griffin and Avani.

If you are looking for a short read with lots of sex, then Red Hot Dragon is for you. If you expect a little more character and plot development, yes it can be done in a novella, then you might be disappointed with this offering. it was not a bad read, it just did not live up to my expectations. that being said, I do think I will read the next book, if only because I have had my interest peaked in the characters and due to the length of the stories I will not be sacrificing much of my time if it does disappoint.

Phew, another hot and sexy dragon shifter book. You ready? Have a drink? A snack? Comfy? You’ll want to settle in to read this little gem too!

Griffin Cadogan is about to enter his mating heat cycle. A bachelor, as he serves the Brotherhood to protect his fellow dragons from the Knights, Griffin can’t hold back his surprise when his family’s sworn enemy strolls in with a proposition—help her save her breed by fathering her child.

Avani Monroe can’t believe she’s the last one of her mother’s rare breed. In order to continue her line, she must bear a child. And of course the most natural person to do that with is Griffin. She concocts a plan—enter the mating heat cycle with him to produce a child and he’ll have no need to be a part of the child’s life or upbringing. Avani needs only a sperm donor, or so she thinks.

Griffin agrees to mate with Avani, but he doesn’t agree to be left out of the child’s life—his child. He wants to be an active participant and involved in the child’s upbringing. Can Griffin convince Avani to change her mind? Can Griffin protect Avani from the Knights to ensure her safety and the continuation of her breed when his best friend disappears?

Another great book in this series. Griffin and Avani, boy oh boy, the heat rises when they’re together. Both strong characters, you can’t help but fall a little bit for Griffin. Once he realizes he wants to be a father—he’s ALL in! Avani, who never felt loved as a child, doesn’t want her child to have a similar experience, so she’s closed her heart to really finding her true mate. But, doesn’t love and the mating heat just conquer all? Now, come on Griffin—find Mad!

Originally reviewed on These Pretty Words.

Oh dear lord. I pretty much drooled all over the first book in the Dragon Heat in my review, and the second installments totally did not disappoint. Red Hot Dragon is the story of Griffin Cadogan, Welsh Red thunder make, and Avani Monroe, last of the Naga line. Their relationship begins as a deal – Grif is the only shot Avani has at having a child to continue the Naga gifts.

Of course four days locked up together during synced up mating cycles changed that plan a bit.

The romance in Red Hot Dragon is well-built and given a decent opportunity to grow considering the length of the story. Grif and Avani are likeable and true, and there’s no unnecessary relationship drama between the two. Just lots of sex and some outside forces trying to get in the way of…well, sex.

There were one thing about this novel that I didn’t like – it’s not completely stand-alone. The drama going on outside the relationship is touched upon but left completely open-ended. I assume the story of Mad and Ivy will be continued in the next book, but the way they were introduced and then discarded without more information was blunt. It didn’t make me want to stop reading the series but it did keep the book from getting a higher rating.

I gave Red Hot Dragon four stars. Just like the first book in the series, Dead Sexy Dragon, this story is a must read for any shifter-romance lovers who don’t mind their books a little steamy. I’ll be watching for the next installment in the Dragon Heat series.

In book two of Lolita Lopez' s Dragon Heat Series, the battle between the knights and the Dragons heats up and we have an entire new couple with new battles to face. But the most important battle of all still awaits, the battle for love!

Avoni is the last of her kind and she is tired of being alone. After careful research she has found the perfect Dragon.. One whose genetics will best combine with hers. With a chance of extending her own special skills and talents to the next generation. Only trouble is her best chance is her worst enemy.

Griff has served his people for centuries dedicated and true. The last thing he needs is a mate. But when Avoni walks into the gym all sultry and sexy all bets are off! When she asks that they take advantage of their mutual "heat" cycles, he is floored...but when she asks that he become nothing more than a sperm donor.. well Avoni has much to learn.

Avoni and Griff start their relationship with red hot desire but it only takes moments for the two of them to realize that there is way more to their relationship than they ever could have dreamed.

The war between the Knights and the Dragons has entered into a new era, but the Knights are still fighting the "righteous" or rather self-righteous fight. And the Dragons they are just fighting to survive. This series has the potential to become a burst out series. If the next book keeps up this level of sensual promise, loyal brotherhood and an intense battle to survive, I will say that Ms. Lopez has a hit series on her hand.

I must admit, Im not sure what exactly to say about this book. I love the world that Lolita Lopez created. Its very interesting, and considering I don't read too many shifter books -- or dragon books for that matter -- its new.

On the other hand, its mostly just sex, and I didn't really see much romance build. Yea, I saw some, but not that much to justify them saying I love you at the end. Its a pet peeve, and while I understand that not everyone doesn't share it with me, it was still a downer.

I didn't expect anything that happened to happen in this book. I wish I knew more about the dragon kinds. Maybe it was in the first book, but I didn't read it. I didn't even realize that it was the second book in the series for some odd reason. I did like Lolita Lopez`s writing and her dragon world enough that I do want to go back and read it. I also want to read the next book.

Despite what I said above, this book did pave a road to what could be a very interesting next book. And I didn't not like this book. Its just that I wish it had been a little bit longer and focused more on the romance instead of the sex. The rating in my opinion is more of a 3.5 but goodreads doesn't have a rating system like that.

I will be trying to get my hands on the next book to see if it is longer than this one and if my opinion can be swayed to a higher rating. I do love her imagination and her world, so I will be reading more of her books.

I received my review copy from Netgalley, and it in no way swayed my opinion of this book.

Red Hot Dragon is book # 2 in the Dragon Heat series. The war between the Dragons and the Knights is still going strong. Here, we have Griffin and Avani's story. As in the previous book, the dragons are entering the mating phase. It is a dangerous time, with a higher threat of being discovered by the evil knights whose purpose is to take out all dragons.

The plot centers around Avani's need to mate. As the last dragon of her kind, she needs to continue the line. Which brings her to Griffin, the only one who can help her. Griffin doesn't want a mate or a child. But his dragon wants Avani. So Griffin and Avani get together for their mating heat. At first they have different opinions about how things will go, but as they get closer the feelings start to grow. The question is if they can compromise on the relationship. Their families are involved in a blood feud, though that didn't seem to matter much. Still, it is talked about and we get some insight into Avani. She has something that the other dragons want, and wonders if Griffin is using her to get it. Griffin struggles with his need to be there for the child they hope to create. And with how strongly he has come to care for Avani. Meanwhile, it may not matter when the knights sniff out their lair.

I liked the novella. It was a short fast paced story that I really got into. I read it all in one afternoon. There was a great secondary story with the missing friend. It was an intriguing set up for the next book, and I will definitely be reading that one too.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will read as many of these books as the author writes. They are amazing little bite sized paranormal romances that center on a group of dragon shifters. I wasn’t sold on the idea of dragon shifters being remotely sexy, but these books are HOT HOT HOT. This book can absolutely be read as a standalone book, but you should really read the first one if you liked this one even a little bit.

In this one, we meet up with Griffin, a dragon shifter, and his best friend Mad. While sparring in their gym, Griffin is essentially propositioned by Avani, a female dragon/snake shifter who is desperate to keep her family going. Being the last of her line, and going into her mating heat, she is willing to put aside the bad blood their two families have to do what’s best for her race. Of course, one thing leads to another, and many many steamy pages in between, love might actually become a possibility between these two.

As I said above, these books are really great. They have some action, lots of steamy paranormal romance, and a group of characters that I am interested in reading about. I can’t wait to read more!

I took a chance with Red Hot Dragon because, honestly, I thought it could go either way. It could be absolutely crazy horrible because I have never read a story about humans that morph into dragons before or it could be awesome because, well, I have never read a story about humans that morph into dragons before. Yes, humans morphing into werewolves make sense to me because it is such a popular genre but I have never thought dragons. So, like I said, I took a chance. Good news for me, and you, is that it paid off.

I really liked discovering this world of dragons that Lopez brought into the world. Uniquely different in its own way (instead of turning on every full moon,) these dragons go into heat and lock themselves up in bunkers so that Knight, who hunts them, cannot find them. This is where this book starts off.

Avani is the last of her dragon kind and she goes to Griffin to make a deal; let’s make a baby! But this book isn’t all about their scenes where practicing makes perfect (however, with Griffin and Avani first get together, it is perfect from the start) it has an intriguing background story as well; one that starts and leaves you kind of hanging and most definitely wanting to know more.

synopsis: dragons are hunted and exterminated by knights, and so the dragons have become very cautious over the years. griffin is coming into his dragon heat time, which makes him more susceptible to the knights. avani is the last of her line, and is also coming into her dragon heat, so she proposes that she and griffin get together during this time and create a new little dragon to continue the bloodline. griffin is on board, except with the part about walking away from baby dragon once it is created. they go underground into avani's secure space, but have to exit when griffin can't get in touch with his cousin, who had promised to watch over them. when they are out and about, they are attacked by knights, and avani and griffin have to change to protect themselves.

what i liked: the premise. i liked the interactions between avani and griffin, and the relationship that they were creating.

what i didn't like: how short the story was. some stories can be short but still pack the heft of a full-length novel. unfortunately, this one doesn't. the characters aren't really developed, the timeframe that they are actually together is very short, and most of that time is spent having sex, rather than getting to know one another.
