About the author

K.P. Purnachandra Tejaswi was a prominent Kannada writer, novelist, photographer, ornithologist, publisher, painter and environmentalist. He made a great impression in the "Navya" period of Kannada literature and and inaugurated the bandaya sahitya.

Tejaswi was born on September 8, 1938. His father is the famous poet, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu. He completed his education in Mysore. Tejaswi has written in almost all forms of literature including poems, short stories, novels, travel literature, plays and science fiction. He has translated several English books to Kannada. His famous translations include the series on Kenneth Anderson's hunting expeditions and Henri Charrière's Papillon.

He has won several awards for his contribution to literature such as the Rajyotsava and Kannada Sahitya Academy awards.

Poornachandra Tejaswi died of cardiac arrest at the age of 69

ಮನುಷ್ಯ ತನಗೆ ಲಾಭ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಏನನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ತನ್ನ ಹಿತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಅನೇಕ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಗಳ ಗೊಚರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಆಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಹುಡುಕಾಟ ಅವನ ಅಸಾದ್ಯ ಅನ್ವೇಷಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದ ಆಂಡಿಸ್ ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧಿ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗೆ ತೆರಳುವ ತಂಡವು ಗತಿಸಿಹೊದ ಒಂದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ನಾಗರಿಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಮೇಜಾನ ನದಿಯ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಗಳು, ಇಂಕಾ ಜನರ ನಾಗರಿಕತೆಯ ಸಮಗ್ರ ಚಿತ್ರಣ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಜಿಮ್ಮಿ ಎಂಜೆಲ್ಸ್ ಎನ್ನುವ ಒಬ್ಬ (ಮೊದಲ ಮಹಾಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಪೈಲೆಟ್) ನಿಧಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಕಾರರ ಹಾಗೂ ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಸಂಶೋಧಕರ ಜೊತೆ ಸಾಹಸ ಯಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅದರಿಂದ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಇನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಆಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಒಬ್ಬಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಾಹಸ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವ ಎಂಜೆಲ್ ಜಲಪಾತವನ್ನು, ನದಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಬಂಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಒಸರುವ ನೀರಿನಿಂದ 3000 ಅಡಿಗಳಿಂದ ದುಮ್ಮಿಕ್ಕುವ ಜಲಪಾತವನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಹುಂಬ ದೈರ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿ ವಿಮಾನ ಜಲಪಾತದ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಬಂಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಳಿಸಿದ್ದು ನಂತರಲ್ಲಿಯೆ ವಿಮಾನ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಆ ವಿಮಾನ ಸ್ಮಾರಕವಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲೆ ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದು ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ ನಾವೇ ಸಾಹಸ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವೆನೋ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಎಂಜೆಲ್ ಪಾಲ್ಸ್ ನ ಸಂಶೋದನೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸುತ್ತಾ ಅಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು, ಡೈನೋಸಾರ್ ಹೋಲುವ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು 20ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲೂ ಕಂಡು ಬಂದದ್ದು ಪ್ರಕೃತ್ತಿ ತನ್ನ ಮಡಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ-ಯಾವ ವಿಸ್ಮಯವನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ತನ್ನೊಳೊಗೆ ಹೂತುಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದೋ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಇನ್ನೂ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಎಡೆಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಆಂಡಿಸ್ ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದರೊಡೆಕೊರರು ಸಂಶೋಧದಕರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಮುಂಚೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಪುರಾತತ್ವ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಕಳ್ಳತನ ಮಾಡುವುದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಸರಕಾರ ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ನಂತರ ಅದು ಅನೇಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಗೆ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗೆ ದಾರಿಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ಹೆಣಗಾಡಿದರೂ ಅದರ ಮುಂದೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಎನ್ನುವ ನರ ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ತೃಣಕ್ಕೂ ಸಮವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ಅರಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳು, ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಗಳು, ವಿಚಿತ್ರಗಳು, ನಾಗರೀಕತೆಗಳು, ಜನ ಜೀವನಗಳು. ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಬಾರಿ ಓದಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಚಿಂತೆಗೆ ಹಚ್ಚುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ತರಹದ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟವನ್ನೂ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ದಾಟಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಭಯಾನಕವಾದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಸಾರಿ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೋಗಲಾಗದೆ ದೂರದಿಂದಲೇ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಮೂಡಿಸುವಂತ ಪರಿಸರ ಮತ್ತು ನೋಟ. ಒಳಹೊಕ್ಕಾಗ ಆಗುವ ಭಯಾನಕತೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅದ್ಭುತ. ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಜಾಗಗಳ ವೀಡಿಯೋ ನೋಡಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡಿ. ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿರುವ ಪ್ರತೀ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳೂ ಪರದೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೂಡಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಷ್ಟು ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಜೀರ್ಣವಾಗುವ ವಿವರಣೆ.

ಕಾಡಿನ ಯಾವುದೊ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂತು, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾದ, ಕಂಡೂ ಕೇಳರಿಯದು ಕೆಲವು ವಿಚಿತ್ರಗಳು, ನಾರೀಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅದೆಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಕಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಶಿರಸಾಷ್ಟಾಂಗ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು.

i have been a fan of Dr Poornachandra Tejaswi since childhood but this book is too good to be true, amount of research and number of books he must have read before compiling the facts are unimaginable.. hoping to complete the series.. must read for anyone interested in knowledge and seeking beyond the ordinary mundane things..
